The trailer for "Behind the Looking Glass" which is the film the wonderful feminist film maker Vaishnavi Sundar, is currently making about Trans Widows is now on YouTube and it's stunning.

I was fortunate enough to speak at Vaishnavi's event to launch it at FILIA. It's very exciting that Trans Widows have made this much progress in begin heard.

There's a link at the end for helping Vaishnavi with any related gardening.

I've been annoying lovely Vaishnavi by being quite impatient 😬

That's a very sobering film. It's going to make an impact.

What Datun said.

I hope so. I'm a bit nervous about the backlash TBH.

Yes, I can understand that.

But those women are clearly sincere, traumatised and frightened.

I genuinely believe there are a lot of women (and men) out there who will not ignore that.

TinselAngel · 25/07/2024 12:26

Well yes, but we've always been that.

What is it released, tinsel? Where will it be?

TinselAngel · 25/07/2024 13:55

Around the end of this month on YouTube hopefully.

Fantastic, will look out for the release.

TheColourOutOfSpace · 25/07/2024 20:42

Really looking forward to this.

Agree with everyone posting here …. A really strong representation of the reality with women’s voices central. You were all great.

WarriorN · 31/08/2024 08:41

Half way through; it's brilliant

WarriorN · 31/08/2024 08:42

And absolutely gutting - the intensity of the abuse is stark

TinselAngel · 31/08/2024 08:54

Apparently it's already had 12,000 views.

I've just found it and bookmarked to watch when I can asap. I've already watched some of the clips that were released 😳 I think it's over 14k now.

DOBARDAN · 31/08/2024 12:14

I've watched from beginning to end, such a poignant film, brilliantly made, the women expressed themselves well and I hope their voices will be heard far and wide. Mumsnet gets a mention as a place for women to talk about what is happening in their lives and the much needed support they receive. One woman says "I now know what it feels like to lie to myself"... part of the pressure to convince yourself that everything is ok.

MishyJDI · 31/08/2024 15:41

No trans widower victims voices seem to be heard in the doco preview. I wonder why? Divorces are sad and happen for many reasons.Still many get hurt when trans emerges, that is for sure. Sad when relationships can't last the changes.

Because it's a film about women.

Because women are much less likely to ditch their partner and kids because their fetish life is too exciting?

lol.

wondering why a film about women isn't a film about men?

Talk about prove a point. 😁

Exactly. Honestly, I think that original post was a disingenuously-framed oppositional opinion purely for the sake of it 🙄

Giving this subject some actual thought allows for the realisation that women in abusive situations need to be given a voice as both a warning and as consciousness raising for themselves and other women; the experience of their abusers isn’t relevant.
