"Doctors told not to encourage young people to change their names and pronouns"

I can't read the whole article because I'm not subscribed but it looks positive!

Really? No shit.

Weve been saying that for years

NHS England has announced plans for tightening controls on the treatment of under 18s questioning their gender, including a <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/KKqzX/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/10/18/children-buying-puberty-blockers-could-referred-police-social/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">ban on prescribing puberty blockerss^ outside of strict clinical trials.
The services, which will <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/KKqzX/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/07/28/tavistock-transgender-clinic-shut-nhs-review-finds-not-safe/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">replace the controversial Tavistock clinicc^, will be led by medical doctors rather than therapists and will consider the impact of other conditions such as autism and mental health issues.
The plans, which are currently under public consultation, are for an interim service for young people with gender dysphoria whilst <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/KKqzX/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/03/10/doctors-treating-gender-dysphoria-feel-pressured-adopt-unquestioning/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Dr Hilary Cass continues her revieww^ into the treatment offered by the NHS.
They note that there is a need to change the services because there is currently “scarce and inconclusive evidence to support clinical decision-making”.

Not quoting the whole article. I'm sure there an archived version somewhere.

Something needs to be done about the parents transing their preschoolers.

ofwarren · 23/10/2022 19:25

I read this today too about what a Sunak government would look like. Obviously most points are not great but I like the one about schools! I'm looking forward to hearing more about what they are going to do.

NHS are making the right noises but the plans "are currently under public consultation".
I wonder when, how and with whom, will this consultation take place.

Here's Transgender Trend's excellent response:

They're consulting with the everyone I believe. Fo once it's not just the "special interest groups" who have been allowed to do such terrible harm to children.

There's a link to the consultation in the Transgender Trend piece:

Thank you @MrsOvertonsWindow I cross-posted with you. That's a really encouraging read mostly from Transgender Trend and thanks for the link to the consultation.

Wow, I feel like I can breathe out a bit more.

Oblomov22 · 23/10/2022 20:01

Finally. The truth.

ArabellaScott · 23/10/2022 20:11

'This new service specification represents a hugely significant change in NHS England’s approach to children and young people suffering gender dysphoria and distress.'

-Transgender Trend's post.

Unseelie · 23/10/2022 20:23

It was so obvious all along. We’ve been saying it here for many years. It’s good that the NHS has finally realised this but a lot of questions need to be asked about how NHS policy became insane in the first place.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/10/2022 20:25

It's a massive change. Evidence based medical / psychological care for children using the same model and standards that all unwell children receive on the NHS. No more foreshadowing of trans issues and ignoring mental health / eating disorders, autism or other presenting issues.
And hopefully no place at the table for all the adult transactivist groups using vulnerable teenage girls and very young children to fulfil their fantasies about "trans children".

IcakethereforeIam · 23/10/2022 20:33

I hope the recent court case about the malign effect the Internet had on a child's mental health is taken into account in these cases. Many children are started down the trans path by their 'internet family'. These families won't just let these kids go.

If the treatment is going to be holistic, it must treat the transhausen families and advise concerned parents on keeping their children safe on the internet.

Captured children's charities, such as the National Autistic Society need talking down. Actually, a reasoned explanation from them as to how they are, as they are would be nice.

I'd like to see 'affirmation only' organisations either change their tune or be stopped from getting public/lottery money, directly or indirectly.

And, while I'm dreaming, everyone gets cake.

zanahoria · 23/10/2022 20:39

It seems to be doing well.

The previous regime was far to based on the American system that is geared to wards selling drugs. The NHS should be maintaining different priorities.

Soontobe60 · 23/10/2022 20:45

I hope that alongside the checks and balances prescribed there are also robust consequences made clear for any “group” who think they can ignore this and still push children into irreversible choices.

Yes, we need an enquiry. Perhaps the new Biology Taskforce (?) can take it on. A cross party enquiry into what the fuck happened to safeguarding, science and common sense.

Musomama1 · 23/10/2022 21:05

Brilliant. And adding in another no shit.

And also, the NHS seems to be moving towards a reasonable approach with children here, but yet it still promotes pronoun nonsense (there's a random virtue signalling poster in my GP surgery) and all the rest of it?

Perhaps this is a start.

rogdmum · 23/10/2022 21:19

It’s going to need buy in from schools, social services, charities (eg National Autistic Society) which is going to take time and involves a massive change in mindset. Without this, I think clinicians will struggle to work with children under the new approach- ie if it’s only the NHS urging caution re social transition and keeping an open mind/working on all issues, children will see the NHS as a barrier. It needs buy in from everyone.

I’m very hopeful though that this is the start of real change and better safeguarding for gender distressed/dysphoric children

JellySaurus · 23/10/2022 21:23

I hope this protocol gets extended to adults as well, especially adolescents. Such a major change to a person's life, their body and their interaction with society, cannot simply be signed off without investigating the reasons. A 25yo could also be struggling with autism, internalised homophobia, or the consequences of sexual abuse.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 23/10/2022 21:26

I hope so too rogdmum. This shambles of a government is going to have to come up with some clear guidance for schools and the captured DfE will need to strip out the trans activist groups from their funding and policy groups. Hopefully Cass gives a strong enough steer (plus a tsunami of horrified parents) that schools will have to start reversing all their social transitioning and gaslighting.

I absolutely agree with this and have filled in the consultation to state this and have previously contacted the Cass Review to make a plea for the needs of the young adults who's brains are still developing, who are still vulnerable and who have to negotiate adult services which are captured by the woeful genderbread model.

This approach isn't just needed for under 18s.
