Better or worse than 'people'?

We are 'anyone' now.

Woman is a sex designation, not an idea in somebody's head. Therefore it is not insulting.

'Anyone' may include women and girls, but so does 'people'.

If including under-18s is the issue, say:
'Pregnant women and girls'.

"Anyone who is pregnant" is clearer than " pregnant women and girls" "Girls" is tacked on. You could read that as all girls.

JellySaurus · 16/10/2022 15:09

Oh dear, you're reaching now.

Pregnant women, and girls. Two separate groups.

Pregnant women and girls. Two demographics that make up one group having pregnancy in common.

The comma makes the difference.

Rather like the Y chromosome.

Trans men are NOT women. That's pretty insulting. The 'anyone' in the photo that OP posted, could be referring to non binary/ trans men people.

So if trans men are not women, what are they? Because men can’t get pregnant, honestly, I promise.

Is it though? Is it clearer? To whom? Why are you so determined to erase the word woman? Who does it hurt to use the words women and girls?

ChocFrog · 16/10/2022 15:18

HighlandPony · 16/10/2022 02:27

Hmm. The ‘anyone’ thing I used to see a lot over 20 years ago in school in regards to pregnancy and having babies. “Anyone who thinks they might be pregnant can go confidentially to mrs total judgey cow in the guidance suite” or “anyone who has had a baby is no longer eligible to travel for a half fare” yes that was a thing, “anyone who has had a baby should book their first smear test in six months”. It was to avoid referring to younger teenage mothers under 16 as “women” or even “mums”. A lot of my friends had to deal with that shit.

😱😢

Shakenotslurred · 16/10/2022 15:23

That would have been funny if boys had shown up. I’m just confused @TheLassWiADelicateAir if ‘anyone’ is so inclusive, why do the pages on mens health not use it? Why is it only the womens health pages?

pink85 · 16/10/2022 17:39

anonbelle okay sure trans men are NOT women...so how come period companies have to be woke and say 'people' have periods now...because that means it will include trans men who are biological women the only humans who are capable of having periods since they have all the right parts. You can be kind without blatantly twisting science and facts. Its not cruel its reality. How come Blaire White understands this? She's a transwomen but acknowledges she will always be biologically male.

Ponderingwindow · 16/10/2022 17:49

if there was consistency it would read

anyone who is pregnant

anyone with health conditions….

household contacts of anyone…..

but only the line that applies exclusively to females has been replaced with the word “anyone”. On the other lines the description at least warrants “people”

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/10/2022 17:53

You know what would work? And make everyone happy.

What could exclude you from having the jab:

Age over 65
Pregnancy
Etc..

It's possible to include everyone and alienate no one. But no one bothers to do that. Just piss women off, that's fine.

bellinisurge · 16/10/2022 18:37

Transmen are biological women who don't want to be called that. Non- binary is narcissistic nonsense

KittenKong · 16/10/2022 18:51

How on earth does anyone explain how their feelings have any relevance to things such as - oh getting/being pregnant, having prostate problems, ovarian cancer risks etc…?

no really - I need to know how this works.

I remember hearing a radio programme and there was something on it about women being better candidates mentally for space travel. Then I thought - what if there was some issue that meant that only women could blast into space - so men would just explode of they tried to travel into other space.

Would anyone take the risk?

NC12345665 · 16/10/2022 18:54

Shakenotslurred · 16/10/2022 07:42

Yeah. If only the pages for prostate cancer said anyone with a prostate. Then I’d accept that @GrammarTeacher amazingly those pages still use the word man…. No mention of transwomen or nonbinary males there

NHS Scotland helpfully informed my husband that "men and people with testicles are at most risk of getting testicular cancer." You're right though, they still put the word "men" first.

KittenKong · 16/10/2022 19:01

Men AND people with testicles. Who exactly is the ‘and’ there?

NC12345665 · 16/10/2022 19:04

KittenKong · 16/10/2022 19:01

Men AND people with testicles. Who exactly is the ‘and’ there?

Men and men trans women.

KittenKong · 16/10/2022 19:08

So why can’t they say that. If these people are genuinely that ignorant or wilful… everyone has a sex and everyone knows what it is.

WandaWomblesaurus · 16/10/2022 20:04

anonbelle · 16/10/2022 02:02

Yes anyone! trans men can get pregnant too, non binary can also etc etc.

Trans men can get pregnant because they are biologically female.
Non binary can only get pregnant if they are biologically female.

Do you not realise this?
Do you think using exclamation marks makes everything fun and inclusive and accurate in a medical setting whilst you are happily removing the words for women and girls?

EdgeOfACoin · 18/10/2022 03:37

anonbelle · 16/10/2022 02:02

Yes anyone! trans men can get pregnant too, non binary can also etc etc.

Only some non-binary people, I think you'll find.

There's a fairly easy way to tell which non-binary people might become pregnant and which definitely won't.

Hint: it's got nothing to do with whether they like pink and giggling lots or whether they like drinking

EdgeOfACoin · 18/10/2022 03:42

Posted too soon -

Whether a non-binary person can get pregnant depends not on which stereotypes they adhere to and entirely on their biological sex.

Show me a pregnant non-binary person and I bet I can tell you what their biological sex is. I'd bet my house on it. Shall we give it a go?

JellySaurus · 21/10/2022 18:50

Current BBC News article on the flu jab.

Different editor? Or instinctive use of correct language?

Better or worse than 'people'?

Tbh, in and off itself I think it is fine. I can easily imagine a list like this 20 years ago.

It's likely been done to avoid using the word woman now, which is annoying, but "anyone who is pregnant" is quite clear and easy to understand.

Asdavaluesausage · 21/10/2022 19:42

So is pregnant women. It’s clear, concise and accurate

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 21/10/2022 22:53

anonbelle · 16/10/2022 12:37

@Shakenotslurred sex and gender are two different things.

Some of your friends are off-message.

We are 'anyone' now.
SimpleName83 · 22/10/2022 00:23

It's only women who can get pregnant and carry a pregnancy. And transmen are women. So transmen can do so too, so long as they did not get their womb chopped out, for example.

Who the fuck are the people who are arguing against this? It is simple biological truth and fact! Only women can conceive, maintain a pregnancy, and give birth to another human.

Transwomen, no, because transwomen are men and have male biology, so they can't ever get pregnant, no matter what surgeries.

DaSilvaP · 22/10/2022 00:52

Ofcourseshecan · 16/10/2022 09:08

Biology is a fact, not an insult!

It is an insult - when you are deranged enough that you think that really should bend to your delusions.

DaSilvaP · 22/10/2022 01:28

... you think that reality should bend to your delusions.
After taking over the asylum, loonies are spreading all over the town!
