Brilliant question to PM on mermaids- listing some of the recent issues and asking whether police should be investigating.

I don’t agree. I think EB interrupted MC & didn’t use the word “ allegedly” when she should have, I suppose it’s better than nothing, but remember Woman’s Hour had Grace Lavery on not that long ago...

Not meaning to be provocative @pattihews. But anyone who has taken a role of MP needs to stand up for their own principles. If you know Labour mps who would "love to speak" then they'd better be getting on with it.

I don't think that was a provocative thing to say. Naive perhaps.

Given the scope of what's been going on, there really is no excuse at this point. Given the scope of what is an abusive medical practice against children, I don't know how they can justify saying nothing publicly. What is the LP going to do, eject them? I think it could only be a good thing if the party found itself ejecting multiple female MPs over this.

It could be argued that Grace Lavery's lengthy interview on WH, in which Emma Barnett gave Lavery uninterrupted airtime to talk at length about Lavery's penis, was a very good example of how clever EB is at opening people's eyes to the reality of gender ideology.

Posted on other Mermaids thread but relevant here:

Laura Farris MP quote now added to the Telegraph artice; it wasn't in the ealier version:
twitter.com/CforWomenUK/status/1580860363469631488?s=20&t=HTGnRX2p3mC7VjyfF9Z29Q

"Laura Farris, a barrister and Tory MP for Newbury, said: "Given the serious allegations of child safeguarding failures made against Mermaids in recent weeks, it is imperative that any investigation is seen to be impartial and transparent.
"It is concerning to read that West Yorkshire Police have engaged Mermaids services and the public may ask whether they would be able to undertake this investigation fairly.”

RhannionKPSS · 14/10/2022 15:52

They need an impartial police force to investigate, but where to find that is another story.
There are police in Scotland that aren’t “ allied” to Stonewall et all, I haven’t seen one police officer wearing any rainbow stuff up here yet...

Police in Scotland do seem on board with the "values" of SW:

Self ID plan ‘will hit rape convictions’

"Police Scotland said: “The sex/gender identification of individuals who come into contact with the police will be based on how they present or how they self-declare, which is consistent with the values of the organisation.”"

Unfortunately mermaids will most likely be investigated by W Yorks police and we all know what they're like.

I agree. The Grace Lavery interview was a thing of beauty and a perfect example of not interrupting your opponent when they’re making a spectacular own goal.

I wasn’t thrilled with the MC interview either. MC was excellent and I’m all for balance and allowing the interviewee to rebut common comebacks, but I felt the quibbles raised were more about wording than substance and didn’t really deepen the discussion.

Mermaids sending children binders isn’t an allegation FFS, it’s an advertised service on their website and has been for years!

MC is great and so articulate about the essential problem here. Safeguarding safeguarding safeguarding. Why are we allowing — even openly campaigning for — lower standards of safeguarding and medical care than in every other arena for one especially vulnerable group of children.
