The Times have covered the Mermaid's employee and his pornographic photos as well as the trustee over interested in paedophilia. I didn't think the press would cover this as it's so extreme but am relieved they have as schools who promote Mermaids really need to know what children are being exposed to. Share token:

When will this organisation learn they have to have the highest level of safeguarding otherwise they really are treating the children and young people they are supposed to support as deserving less?

They have taken the word inclusive In an organisational sense to mean ‘no boundaries’. And as a children’s organisation this is incredibly harmful.

It is possible though that Mews was on their way out of Mermaids or already out unofficially (on garden leave) so Mermaids could not contractually remove Mews from the website. They were advertising for a new Digital Officer.

Whisper it, but I think that Mermaids really are toast this time. The journalists smell blood now, and there will surely be more revelations. I would just love to understand why it has taken them so long, when the writing has been on the wall forever. There’s been a palpable shift in the media - can it all have been precipitated by their attacks on the LGB Alliance? I find that hard to believe - what else has changed to suddenly make it acceptable to do some proper journalism into this organisation?

I'm glad the press is showing the truth about Mermaids. Hopefully it does show the tide turning. As it should.

Those photos, in combination with Mew's bylines on much of their web content and the review of a residential weekend by another mermaids digital engagement officer really show that they don't care about safeguarding.

I really hope they're toast now. They're cavalier with their data, their advice and the people they employ to talk to vulnerable children.

Considering that Mermaids has been used as a blunt stick by other more powerful organisations, such as Stonewall, to attack competition like LGB Alliance, it must be galling that they have no public protection other than token from those organisations who seemed to be benefitting from Mermaids existence.

The public are not going to remember the ‘we suspended our help line because’ articles. They will remember the we had a porn star digital engagement officer and a newly appointed trustee who were both all about breaking down boundaries around sex. As a children’s organisation.

I have my doubts as to where that abuse aimed at the help line came from. If it happened, then that is most concerning. However; it doesn’t distract from this massive failings. And those who all posted their support last week, I wonder if it will sink in after this incident with Mews.

The Times may have to print a correction there.

However, I hope that now more mainstream media will pick this up. As usual, I suspect BBC will be late to the game and only after seeing how the other service’s articles have been received.
