Lesbian Strength march in Leeds - cancelled over safety fears

Rally still ongoing, I believe. But it seems that police couldn't guarantee the safety of the march, after trans-rights activists and Leeds Antifascist Network staged a counter protest, so it had to be cancelled.

Solidarity and support to all of those marching.

This is so upsetting and infuriating. Trans groups get their own marches and rallies … London recently hosted a massive trans pride parade that was JUST about the trans. Lesbians turn up to pride and are kicked out … told they’re not welcome. Ok , so lesbians form their own group and try to have a rally. Nope, not allowed that either. The trans must protest. Trans supporters …:don’t you appreciate and see how frustrating this is? Why can’t lesbians just be left alone to do their own thing? How would you like it if women protested trans Remembrance Day, or trans pride, or non binary day or any of the hundreds of celebrations that trans people have set up ?

I was in Leeds today with a friend and went and had a nosy. My friend had seen that the March had been cancelled and chatted with one of the women there to find out what had happened.
In this case I'm not sure the Police were at fault. They had contained the anti protest protestors and the rally went ahead.
There was a very heavy but good natured police presence. They were very quick to act if anyone approached the rally and circled a few kids trying to go into the Henry Moore Institute.
There were other demos in Leeds as well today, some kind of conspiracy theorists march and I swear a big bunch of furries...

Ironic/ depressing that these confrontations are taking place outside the Henry Moore Institute which will soon be hosting this exhibition:

I was in Leeds today and saw the huge police presence so walked carefully past with my daughter to shelter her from the EDL or such like (having just got past the furries) to find it was women. With opinions.

Friends who were due to go over to leeds decided not to. Wondering what will happen at Brighton tomorrow?

When did the role of the police change from preventing crime and getting criminals off the streets, to supporting crime (such as threatening behaviour and open lesbophobia) and getting victims off the streets?

This was discussed in another thread- nothing to do with them being lesbian and nothing to do with their views. They hadn't registered to march and were obstructing the people who were marching, police told them to move aside to let everyone pass, which they agreed to.

So why don't the police do that this time - tell the people obstructing and genuine march to move instead of the marchers being forced to cancel? Because certain groups are allowed to do whatever they want, and others (women) have to do what they are told.
