Dundee man leads fight against period poverty

PrimAndProperPearlClutcher · 15/08/2022 21:52

“It’s about making people aware of the availability of period products for anyone of any gender, whenever they need it.

... '“I was chosen as the best person for the job and for me, it’s irrespective of gender.

“Having a guy can’t be a bad thing – it grabs the headlines, but that’s not the reason I was put into post!” Jason continues.

“For me it’s about driving the discussion from a young age so boys and girls are included and there’s no hiding it away because that keeps it as a taboo topic.

“I want to be seen as a positive male role model.”'

Yep, have a look at the job description.

This is an admin project management role, not a healthcare service delivery role.

There’s a picture of him talking to a mother and daughter with an array of products on the table in front of him. It’s a complete joke

IHateHeatWaves · 17/08/2022 18:28

Yep, the young girl looks mortified and uncomfortable.

FannyCann · 17/08/2022 18:47

There's another picture that speaks volumes here. Hmm

He's clearly having a lovely time. Doesn't that just say it all?

Handsoffmyrights · 17/08/2022 21:24

My favourite part of the job spec:

• Self-aware with personal integrity

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/08/2022 21:43

Looking at the job spec that @saltedcaramel1 has posted, I can’t see how it was that there was not one single female candidate able to do the job.

The job should go to the most qualified candidate, not the candidate with the vagina.

Yes, but unfortunately they've completely fucked that up.

Oh. So you have read the CVs of all the candidates, you were present at all the interviews and have experience in hiring project managers for the public sector? Come on then, spill the tea.

littlbrowndog · 17/08/2022 22:27

Discovered reads.

this your mate or something. I seen you all over threads in scotsnet and here.

I dunno why you just don’t accept that many many women don’t like his appointment

eh? @Discovereads I think (like a lot of people of this thread) you've got too stuck in a polarised view.

I completely agree with you that a man could do the job just as well as a woman, as set out in the spec.

But several things regarding the recruitment have come out:

  • post only advertised for 9 days

  • post not advertised widely

  • post (deliberately?) not advertised in correct category

  • one of the women on the working group has employed Jason for his previous three posts, all in different areas requiring different skills.

Surely you can see there's a whiff of cronyism about this? It indicates that they didn't try very hard to find the best candidate (male or female), and just gave it to their mate.

It's deeply frustrating because it completely undermines hiring a man in the first place, and they must have known how heavily it would be scrutinised.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/08/2022 22:30

This man appears to be a shameless self-publicist

'The new role will see him discuss periods and the menopause with women and girls, a position he is ‘absolutely buzzing’, though yesterday declined all interview requests.' 🤔

Yes, I agree there is reason for mild suspicion, as you say there’s a whiff of something may not be right. But I don’t have the surety to proclaim that the women who hired Jason “completely fucked up”

Im hesitant to condemn these women on the basis of suspicion and speculation alone.

I imagine he's been instructed by whoever heads the period dignity partnership to stay well out of it while they scramble.

Exactly. Can’t talk to the press without permission & approval for release for your script once you’re in a public sector post anyway.

FemaleAndLearning · 18/08/2022 00:18

The job advertising and application process needs to be looked into. Will be interesting to see 5he response to this FOI in a few weeks!

Is it Katie Baxter?

ALadderAgainstAWall · 18/08/2022 01:51

Man wants to be Periods and Menopause Tsar for women and girls?

No. Just no.

He hasn't got a fucking clue.

And I'm also looking very very questionly at those who appointed him in this role.

ALadderAgainstAWall · 18/08/2022 01:58

Is it Mridul Wadhwa all over again? But with a beardy white bloke, this time?

The message is that men know far, far better than women, about women's uniquely women's experiences. Be told.

ALadderAgainstAWall · 18/08/2022 02:07

The possibility about open access for this man, he's not by any means a health professional of any kind physical or mental, to discuss reproductive biology and therefore inevitably sexual matters with underaged females in his job capacity, is also a matter that really, really needs looking at.

IHateHeatWaves · 18/08/2022 07:11

The job should go to the most qualified candidate, not the candidate with the vagina.

So, does that apply to other sensitive rules e.g. tackling race issues, trans issues? Should we put a middle age white male in roles to support these groups as he’s the “most qualified candidate”.

I think the circumstances around his appointment should be investigated. Seems like he’s got a career sponsor.

picklemewalnuts · 18/08/2022 07:59

I agree.
Someone who has never had and never will have a period is not and never will be the most qualified candidate.

Hoppinggreen · 18/08/2022 08:04

Looking at Jason’s past work experience even if you put aside his lack of period related equipment I am not sure how he is the best person for the job.
He has worked in Sales for a Tobacco company and as a PT.
Where is his large scale Marketing and Project management experience?
