Hi everyone. I am the woman who wrote the post on twitter, and my crowdfunder will go live tomorrow. Obviously I'm not going to link to it here as I think that would violate standards.
I can go into more detail now about what happened, or maybe starting a new thread would be better.
In short, I was lecturing cultural studies, to students who had signed up to do music industry related degrees. Some resented having to do any academic topics, some loved it.
For clarity, at the beginning of any lecture about gender, sex, women's rights or feminism, I defined how I would be using the terms sex and gender. I did not discuss trans politics / identities. Partly because of the storm that would likely ensue, partly because it was one session a year and I couldn't possibly do it justice, partly because it's such a small part of such a long history (one module is popular music 1900-1975 plus links to present day), and partly because I'd been explicitly asked not to.
I NEVER told students what to think. I just asked them to read, to listen, and to form their own opinions, which they should rigorously challenge, and academically support (crazy I know).
I also said once in the staff room that I don't like drag, and I reported that female students were uncomfortable talking to a male student support officer who had been sharing naked videos of himself on instagram.
Essentially discriminated against for being a woman, and a feminist. I can start a new thread with more details, and happy to answer any questions.
