Just shocked at having heard some of the things this famous kick-boxer has done and said about women. I had no idea who he was until DD showed me videos and I read a bit more about him.

Why is he allowed to spout such vile nonsense, IMO he shouldn’t even have an Instagram account.

He says women have to accept some of the blame for having put them self in a position to be raped. And that a woman going to a bar alone would be equivalent to parking your car where it can get stolen.

He moved to Romania because it’s ‘easier to rape women there’ and says although he wouldn’t he likes the freedom of being able to if he wanted.

Why is a sporting figure allowed to perform that openly hates women?

I know this word gets used a lot on MN, but to say he's vile would be a massive, massive understatement.

Abhannmor · 01/08/2022 19:16

I can't think of kick boxing and MMA as sports to be honest. Most of their male practitioners seems to be utter scumbags.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 02/08/2022 06:47

He is a thoroughly vile excuse for a human being.

There are loads of accounts that think he's amazing and repost his stuff. It's scary.

jsof595 · 20/10/2022 11:57

that is not why he moved to Romania at all. I don't think you have really spent the time listening to his long form interviews if you think that is why he resides in Romania.

LaughingPriest · 20/10/2022 12:04

I know this thread is from a while ago.

There have been a few threads about him before, one from a woman whose gullible misogynist boyfriend was defending him.

As always on threads like this, I thoroughly recommend the book Men Who Hate Women by Laura Bates - www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/aug/27/laura-bates-on-the-men-who-hate-women-idolise-murderers

he's not just a one-off, there are entire, large, subcultures based around this thinking. As that interview shows, it's filtering into UK schools.

His reasons for where he lives are not the issue, so let's not pretend they are.

MissyB1 · 20/10/2022 12:11

My ds school have been having massive problems caused by young boys listening to this hateful man. Dh and I are having to constantly explain to ds why Tate is so toxic, as totally unexpectedly ds got caught up in it all, (luckily I get notifications from his YouTube account so I found out). The pastoral team are doing what they can to address it with ds year group. They are all year 9 so aged 13/14, very impressionable age. In my opinion this guy has been grooming them, he’s needs locking up 😡

JustStopOilyPoshKids · 20/10/2022 12:21

Even more scary is he's put out some reasonable sounding content re Men's mental health. My teen watched a video and said a lot of what he said resonated with him. He acknowledged he is a vile misogynist but was still tuning in.

Plus as PP said there's a whole glut of similar content from wanabe MRA edgelords on TT and Instagram. My mate was saying her son has come across loads via interest in body coaching/ fitness.

Massive incel pipeline. Keep a close eye on what yr kids are watching and keep talking about it. More importantly talk about the underlying issues of insecurity etc that could drive them to this guff.

There's a lot in the book I recommended about how the genuine issue of men's mental health is twisted to further the incel etc arguments. There are decent orgs out there who are working on the actual issue, but do Tate etc signpost to them? no, because they don't blame women.

The irony is that ultra patriarchal thinking like the MGTOW etc is harming men's mental health as well as women's safety.

The book also explains how the incel community actively target online gamers to start their 'chats' about this shit so make sure your kids are only playing with people they actually know.

JustStopOilyPoshKids · 20/10/2022 13:12

@LaughingPriest Cheers! I will check that book out

MissyB1 · 20/10/2022 13:31

@LaughingPriest I’m definitely getting that book, this is all big worry in our house at the moment.

JustStopOilyPoshKids · 20/10/2022 14:15

Just went on my Audible to find the title was available for free. I subscribe to Audible but didn't have to use any credits to add to my library

I know his reasons for living there are not what people are concerned about most, but it was mentioned in the original post so thought I would pick up on it. As the reason mentioned (rape women easier??) is completely incorrect, especially if you listen to him explain in long form interviews.

He definitely has some absurd views but unfortunately a lot of what he says is resonating with a lot of people, and some of the conent on personal and social growth rings true.
I think he is very tongue and cheek about his views and I am sure a lot of it is a marketing ploy.
They are yet to find an ex girlfriend of his who will slag him off as by all accounts, he's a good, generous man in his personal life- wether he has traditional views on men/women or not.

I think some of his brutal honesty and being a bit harsh is quite good. He talks about obesity and says it very straight. If it bothers you and you want to be your best self, do not be over weight. I think in general this is good advice. Some people aren't very receptive to wishy washy stances- especially young men who often need to be told.

Since the attempting of his cancelling he has certainly toned down. Did anyone see his Piers Morgan Interview? I thought it was quite good.

Also if you don't like Andrew Tate, try Tristan Tate- his younger brother. Much more 'normal' clearly well educated and intelligent.

Yeh, the video where he mimes thumping a woman doesn't seem so bad when you know he's helping young men stay slim. 🤔

Ofcourseshecan · 20/10/2022 16:22

But the trouble is it’s not getting across to impressionable young men that way.

I know the video you mean, and I agree it is out of order. Still doesn't unwrite the good. Just taints his persona.

The video is satire and a play on his character but with the influence he wields I would agree, and say it is over the line.

Yes I agree, that is a huge problem.

I would argue that is an education issue and people are not able to pick apart what he says and select the bits they think are appropriate/inappropriate/satire.

I also think young men (what we classing as young men? Lets go with 14-20) are more intelligent than we give them credit for and are probably repeating things he says because it is funny to a peer group, as opposed to thinking being a kn*b is good practice in life.
Any young man being horrible to women Because they think it is acceptable has their own issues to work out and it probably isn't Tate's fault.

Can't young men find another good role model who help them stay slim and say things about mental health that will resonate wirh them, without the disgusting misogny and violence against women bit?

What you are describing sounds more like grooming to be honest.

I would like to think so. But what does it say if he is the only person young men are drawing inspiration from? Is it a commentary on the available male role models in their lives, or on male role models available in society in general?

I know Joe Rogan and Jordan Peterson are popular with young men too, but they also, like Tate, are met with a sh*tstorm of hate from the media because of things they say, and it isn't all that bad when in context of the rest of their speech, personality and method of delivery.

And that is ridiculous, it does not sound like grooming at all. But I am interested to know why you believe it does?

Yeah, I think it is a commentary on male role models. Men need to ask themselves why there are no decent male role models for young men to the extent that someone like Andrew Tate can be seen as someone who is aspirational and talks a lot of sense. Men need to sort themselves out don't they?

Grooming is when someone builds a relationship/connection with someone vulnerable in order to manipulate them. If AT only ever talked about how he will only fuck 19 year olds, or about hitting women, then people would just write him off. But if he says things about mental health that 'resonate' with young men or whatever it is that he spouts, then that is a way into the minds of young men. Because he is just trying help them.....right?

I totally disagree that it doesn't unwrite the good - whatever the good is! How can it be acceptable to say here's a really positive health message guys, and by the way, if your girlfriend annoys you, you should give her a beating. How on earth is glorifying violent misogyny some kind of tongue in cheek joke?

Most boys have more sense than to take it seriously, it's true. My son brought up the subject with me and showed me a video of a man having a go at Tate and promoting respect for women. But there are still plenty of teenage boys who will buy into this - domestic violence and coercive control are massive problems, mainly for women and children and this encourages those who are impressionable or already that way inclined.

Bit of a sidetrack but did anybody see the Triggernometry with Esther Krakue? I thought she sounded reasonable until she started saying there’s nothing wrong with Andrew Tate’s attitudes or behaviour. Also took issue with her saying that women naturally want to care for a man (I think that impulse is a side effect of loving someone, rather than us being submissive and nurturing by nature). The comments about how beautiful and intelligent she was and how we need more women like her were quite disheartening.

LaughingPriest · 22/10/2022 13:53

This has zero to do with whether what he tells countless young men is true or not.

He did not say he only sleeps with 19 year olds. The whole interview, that was on the Full Send Podcast is online and you should watch the entire thing first.
He was saying he finds young women more attractive as they are usually more innocent, have a lower body count and come with less baggage. Still not a great thing to say but if that's his type, that's his type. He did not say he ONLY sleeps with 19 year olds.
I think the reason there are not many good male role models is because men are not allowed to like/want the things they like anymore as a lot of people see it as toxic masculinity.

That's my take anyway.

In Psycology, women and men have lots of differences. But are more alike than they are different.

On average, men are more materialistc and women are much more humanitarian. So she isn't wrong.
Women are definitely, evolutionary supposed to care more than men (for men to an extension but also other women/children) as that was the role played for thousands of years.
50 years of women in the work place doesn't change that unfortunately.
