Hello Vipers,

I'm currently at a Tory gathering waiting for Rishi to appear and answer questions. I intend to ask how he will protect women's sports going forward. Any other questions anyone would like asked?

Why did he think it was okay to talk over Liz Truss and Sophie Rayworth (in that rude steamrollery way)?

Fenlandia · 27/07/2022 16:56

I'm not a Tory voter but good luck at the event OP. Can you ask about single-sex spaces? He's made some vaguely reassuring noises recently but if he's the next PM we'd all like him to protect spaces like hospital wards from being made mixed-sex by stealth.

Yes! We had to turn it off it was awful!

BreadInCaptivity · 27/07/2022 17:05

I'd like to know what he intends to do to root out the influence Stonewall has on Govt policy and particularly participation in their Equality and Diversity Schemes - especially in light of Allison Baily's tribunal findings today where it was laid bare they they supplied incorrect legal advice to a scheme member who had now been found to have been discriminated against an employee.

Fluffymule · 27/07/2022 17:07

What does he intend to do to reverse and eliminate the embedded influence of political lobby groups pushing harmful and divisive ideologies - for example Stonewall - within Government departments, public services and the Civil Service itself?

achillestoes · 27/07/2022 17:09

What is his strategy for reversing the damage that successive governments have done to women’s rights and free speech rights, in their adherence to gender ideology?

Circleofshells · 27/07/2022 17:15

@StansRealityStruggle Could you please ask- What does he plan to do to ensure women are lifted out of poverty, given that it is women who are disproportionately affected by long term poverty and the cost of living crisis?

thanks!

Needmoresleep · 27/07/2022 17:15

Ask him what he has done to date to limit the influence of lobby groups like Stonewall in the Treasury and elsewhere. (The FCA?)

He will promise the earth. But has he done anything yet? Liz, as Minister for Women did start the ball rolling back.

Circleofshells · 27/07/2022 17:18

Also if you could ask him what proportion of his cabinet does he anticipate being female?

If it’s less than 50% then ask him what he plans to go to ensure more talented women are given opportunities to serve in senior positions in the Conservative Party?

thanks

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 27/07/2022 17:39

Could you ask him why the Conservatives have allowed transwomen into woman’s prisons, especially in light of the case of Karen White.
Also will any more of taxpayers money be given to Stonewall.

Yes, this.

TheBestBitch · 27/07/2022 17:46

Yes please ask whether he will get Stonewall out of government depts given the Allison Bailey ruling today

Yes please

Ask what he would get the dept for education working on, to ensure RSE materials are age appropriate, safe, and non-political. And how high a priority he would give it.

Annoyingly, I could only ask one question so I asked about his commitment to women's rights and protecting women's sport. He was quite emphatic about it and said that, as the father of two young daughters, it was something he cared about.

He said that he would ensure that women's sport remained for women only and that he agreed with Seb Coe's views on the matter. He was committed to providing safe, single sex spaces for women in hospitals and prisons.

It was short but he didn't use the word gender at all (focused on the importance of single sex) and he did seem keen to discuss the issue without fudging it.

I will put @Fluffymule 's excellent question to Liz Truss in a few days.

It's on the Telegraph website & says his answer to that question got the biggest applause of the night. Well done!

Yes. And remove teaching ‘gender identity’.

He cares about his daughters. Couldn't give a flying fuck about yours. He will also be committed to providing your daughters with "the finest healthcare in the NHS" while having private cover for his and even more committed to "the highest education standards for your children" while sending his daughters to a private school.

But he knows what a woman is, what a daughter is and what needs to be done to protect our rights. There are dozens of threads in politics where you can dissect other policies but this one is very specifically about women's rights to our own language, spaces and dignity, privacy and our ability to keep single sex spaces.

ScribblingPixie · 28/07/2022 09:31

@BreadInCaptivity The former chancellor won the largest round of applause when he made it clear where he stood on trans rights. He said: “The fact that we have to have a conversation about what a woman is is quite frankly extraordinary. As a parent of two young girls and married to one, I know exactly what a woman is. We don’t need to have a debate about it.

“I am going to stand up for women’s rights, whether it is the language that people are now trying to erase from public life, access to changing rooms, sports – we need to stand up for women’s rights. It is not bigoted or somehow narrow-minded to say that.”

SerendipityJane · 28/07/2022 10:49

He knows what his daughter is, and will protect her rights. If you think he gives two shits about you and your tawdry family, you've either not been paying attention these past 200 years, or are in for a nasty shock.

You can't really talk about leaving the ECHR and protecting rights in the same universe.

I see what you are saying, but if he is going to be PM for the next two years, even given what you say, and all the things he probably will not do, isn’t it surely better than nothing if he listens to women about language and spaces, or doesn’t cancel ministers who do?

Good though the ECHR is, one regrettable aspect imo is that The GRA 2004 was passed in the UK to comply with the ECHR's ruling. I am sure there would have been good reasons, but it doesn’t seem to have been thought through in all of it’s ramifications in the way the U.K. adopted it.
