Woman's Hour listener week

rabbitwoman · 26/07/2022 00:25

Over on twitter, woman's Hour have announced listener week and asked for ideas for topics we would like to see covered on the show.

Literally hundreds of answers all saying the same thing.....

twitter.com/BBCWomansHour/status/1551454702235226113?t=IX4QfNAv6P-0dPPPqQtT9Q&s=19

Top of the list seem to be Helen Joyce, maya Forstater, Allison Bailey, Kelly Jay keen, sharron Davis and of course jk Rowling.

Stephanie Davies arai, Watson, bev and Kate from the LGBA..... a positive roll call.

Unanimously, all the replies are calling for gender critical guests.

Now, I cannot imagine for one second that the person running the BBC woman's Hour twitter account would not have foreseen this. I wonder if this is a tactic, so they can go bavk to whoever has the BBC in this headlock and say, look!!! All these women want to hear about this, we cannot ignore it!!!

KittenKong The latter.

😜 bonkers

I’ve seen stuff on the Internet suggesting TW have menopause if they come off HRT because they can have similar symptoms. As menopause is the end of a woman’s menstrual cycle it’s rubbish really. As we know from sport, women are only defined by their hormones!

CriticalCondition · 28/07/2022 11:16

I've just listened again. Caroline Nokes says 'there are some men, some people, men with Gender Recognition Certificates who will go through the menopause'. Then she immediately refers glowingly to a number of 'people in the trans community using oestrogen gel' who offered her their spare bottles. But these 'trans people' taking oestrogen must be biologically male, surely.

So, the usual obfuscation and all as clear as mud. Just be kiiind.

RandomlyThrownTogether · 28/07/2022 11:27

TW can go through menopause too

You what, now?

RandomlyThrownTogether · 28/07/2022 11:30

'some men, some people, men with Gender Recognition Certificates who will go through the menopause''

Ah. Yes, that's true. Testosterone may cause young women to go through the menopause in their twenties, and from what I understand can lead to some really poor health outcomes including the need for a hysterectomy at a very early age.

CriticalCondition · 28/07/2022 11:30

I've seen that too, Justme56. That's why I thought she was talking about TW going through 'menopause' aka withdrawal symptoms.

Honestly, as if having a GRC is of any relevance to menopause support. Now this dangerous nonsense is firmly on the radar of the general public I really hope it's running out of road. And the GRA should be repealed.

RandomlyThrownTogether · 28/07/2022 11:31

Apologies - I should have said 'testosterone may cause young transmen to go through the menopause'.

Mennex · 28/07/2022 12:22

Still getting rationed. Reckon they're listening? I don't. I think they'll pussy out with some fluff piece on something safe like menopause or a female painted or something.

Mennex · 28/07/2022 12:23

Ratioed

Next week will be Listeners' Week. They are still asking for suggestions

RockPaperScience · 17/08/2022 19:38

Wonder what they have gone with. I see today they have been talking about wiping vaginal secretions onto yourself as perfume. While Rome burns…

My fingers are crossed for Helen Joyce, she’s a natural communicator. And FondOfBeetles, I’m a bit of a fan girl 😀

The Twitter thread was a joy to read.

Ramblingnamechanger · 17/08/2022 20:25

It was actually quite encouraging to have Emma back this week, she does her research and asks more searching questions. She did an excellent feature with women from Afghanistan on Monday, for example. The others seem to be very fluffy, in my opinion. Not holding out too much hope for listeners week however as there has probably been a lot of censorship…

WarriorN · 17/08/2022 20:47

REALLY hope it's Elaine. She's had awful shit from the festival and a bloody awesome.

Have the listeners come up with the wrong sort of ideas I wonder?

I'm sure the right sort of women would come up with something more acceptable BBC sensibilities.

That's an interesting thought OP, but maybe a bit optimistic? This is the BBC, the broadcaster that recently interviewed Fallon Fox about female sports, having somehow not checked beforehand that he was a violent misogynist. They seem to live in a google-free bubble - I think it's entirely possible that the unanimity of the responses will take them completely by surprise.

Either way, it will be very interesting to see how they respond!

Every time I read that the BBC 'didn't know' or 'hadnt checked' on Fallon Fox's background, it's important to point out that the BBC were fully aware of what FF had tweeted previously. When the BBC Complaints Dept says they weren't aware, they are lying. I (and I'm sure many others) complained about Fallon Fox being interviewed on the BBC some time ago (long before their recent appearance on R4), in light of Fallon's Twitter history which I detailed. The BBC ignored that part of my complaint entirely. I complained again and they fully defended interviewing FF. We mustn't let the BBC Complaints Dept continue to perpetrate the lie that they weren't aware of FF's past.

That’s mean. Like setting up a toddler to argue philosophy.

🤣🤣🤣 brilliant description!

CriticalCondition · 22/08/2022 10:21

Well, the opening trail for Listeners' Week on WH was pretty disappointing. Bionic breasts anyone?
FFS.

KittenKong · 22/08/2022 10:23

Depends. Do they fire weapons?

I’m almost certain that’s what this guy was thinking of.

Todays gem was loss of pubic hair at menopause. Emma actually added “and men too” which seemed totally unnecessary..

Sonnex · 23/08/2022 15:20

Oh ffs who cares? I'm menopausal age and I still have to trim mine, I'd happily lose some. How is this the most pressing issue facing women in the UK today?

DessicatedWithering · 23/08/2022 15:27

How is this the most pressing issue facing women in the UK today?

I'm not sure it would make the top 10 most pressing issue facing women in the UK today. Women's Hour got that list directly from Twitter but don't seem to want to cover anything on it. Why?

Oh yes. That’s absolutely the first thing that all ladies of a certain age mention when I speak to them.
