Apparently Penny Mordaunt's brother nearly married David Paisley

Back in February 2021 David Paisley tweeted that he was engaged to her twin brother and nearly had her for his sister-in-law:

I've heard from gay male friends that Penny's brother has been a pretty outspoken TRA. So now we know why she was so TWAW.

Yes, I've got a screen shot of that Tweet.

Clementinecerise · 17/07/2022 09:49

i am quite sure Penny is still aTRA. She’s just hiding it till she wins the leadership bid.

it's always, always down to relationships

'some men are women and children should be able to access powerful, untested drugs on demand' is not a position you get to by objective reasoning

Some background.

This piece has been up for over a year, so I guess there haven't been any requests to take it down.

Two questions buzzing about my head:

  1. Does Penny Mordaunt personally know David Paisley?
  2. Is her twin brother James, to whom she is close, himself a gender ideology / self-ID activist?
All evidence in the public domain gratefully received. I don't want to be making assumptions.

I do wonder whether, post-break-up, she's realised that the gospel according to D Paisley is not all it seems. I know nothing about the relationship but I don't think many people's credibility among their partner's family is enhanced by the relationship ending.

ThickCutSteakChips · 17/07/2022 10:05

Wow, interesting!

Considering Paisley's conduct on Twitter, I would imagine that being the sibling of anyone who is close to him would definitely have an influence on........stuff!

Q2: yes, he is. If you Google him you will find an article in Pink News (and others) dated this year, blasting the government for being hostile to LGBT++++.

If you check the Tweet I linked to, it's David Paisley talking about nearly being Penny Mordaunt's BIL. So unless Paisley is lying, yes, I think we can assume that he and Penny do know each other. I mean, I knew both my BIL's before my sister married them.

And I'm told by two gay male friends who are connected to the individuals involved that Penny's twin brother has recently removed some of his most TRA-ish posts from the internet. Perhaps it's pure coincidence that his sister is standing for Tory leader on an 'I never said TWAW' basis, but perhaps not.

Ah yes, the Case of the Disappearing Receipts ...

SpindleInTheWind · 17/07/2022 10:36

Thanks @Notmanybroadbeans and @Pluvia

I'm going to spend a day down a rabbit hole and see what's there. I think it would be pretty significant if a Prime Ministerial candidate has attempted to muzzle her family member on the very issue that's in danger of torpedoing her campaign, particularly if that family member's views influenced her actions in ministerial office, which in turn had huge implications for women and children's safeguarding.

achillestoes · 17/07/2022 10:45

There’s something very odd about all this. A Prime Ministerial candidate should be able to reach conclusions for themselves. Her reverse ferret coinciding with the end of her brother’s engagement is worrying.

It certainly does explain a lot!

KittenKong · 17/07/2022 12:38

Of her brother is removing posts it probably won’t be conscience or change of heart - it will be her PR team advising a bit of house cleaning.

At the risk of sounding very holier than thou, I find this extremely worrying. A long time ago I was a school governor. One of the things I had to accept was that the governing body I belonged to might have to make a decision that would have an adverse affect on my own children and their friends. For example, we had to decide whether to accept the LEA's offer of including our school in a bid they were making to central government for funding to rebuild or refurbish a group of schools. At the time it sounded as if that would mean my own children would have to spend the last year or two of their primary school lives at a decant site, not the school they were used to. I voted yes because it was the best thing for the school as a whole.

Naively, I took it as read that at least some politicians have grasped this idea and put it into effect. If you think back to WW2, many politicians voted for war, conscription etc knowing that it would affect their families and put them at short-term risk, but accepting that they had to do it for the good of the UK as a whole. I find it very hard indeed to imagine some of the current Cabinet putting the country first.

Deliriumoftheendless · 17/07/2022 17:04

Congratulations on his narrow escape

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 17/07/2022 19:00

Some men are women? They why did you say 'men' first to describe them? what on earth could've made you do that? Did you need us to know you were talking about people with penises? It's completely nonsensical. If they're men, how can they be women? So many questions ...

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 17/07/2022 20:24

Anyone have screenshots or archive links to deleted tweets they can share here?

Twindow · 17/07/2022 21:53

I wonder how the twin brother was radicalised? A very useful way into the heart of government.

Trying to suppress dealing with controversial social issues is not a good way to avoid a culture war. Quite the opposite.

Leaving trans people be to live their lives in peace is a good way to deal with the culture war.

BlueKaftan · 18/07/2022 14:29

If trans people will leave women alone then we will leave them alone.

In what ways do you think trans people are not able to live their lives in peace? Can you give some examples?

What's stopping transpeople living their lives in peace? There are lots of older transpeople who were living quietly until theTRAs started making a huge fuss and drew unwelcome attention to them.
