Anyone else catch this? I only saw parts of it, one of the guests was trying to explain the background, with Stonewall and their no debate stance and Paris completely talked over her, proving her point.
Some good news though, Paris is going to leave the country as it's such a terrible place for trans people.

peonyred
Harris Lees was fragile, overly emotional and mad. Harris 😂

He's right though, there does seem to be a disproportionate amount of highly strung, overly sensitive, needy people espousing this ideology to serve their own needs. Which wouldn't usually be indulged in this way.

I keep thinking when they state that TW are in danger, it's mostly just a danger to their fragile egos.

It was a dreadful, dreadful interview. the entitlement that was allowed to rage uncontrolled across the screen and the interviewer calling Inaya Folarin Iman Kemi. Anyone else who had confused two black women would have been pilloried and public apologies all round.

Yes, indeed. And interestingly, if Paris had been misgendered there would have been an outcry about hatred and bigotry!

BootsAndRoots · 15/07/2022 16:28

The usual threat of it being so bad in this country that they have to leave. I would like to actually know how it is unsafe for trans people, just always seems like an empty threat to close the argument.

They moan about how people go on about it all the time, but when we have issues like abortion or Ukraine some always pops up with "but what happen the trans"?

Trans woman are able to use single sex facilities legally.

There are occasions where they can be excluded but its not a blanket ban and there needs to be justification for it.

They can legally change their sex marker on their passport or birth certificate.

So in the eyes of the law they are female. If you then exclude them from female spaces, you could argue its discrimination.

To prevent someone from doing something they have done for a very long time would be upsetting for them.

Whether they should be using these spaces is another thing, but protecting womans rights will have an impact on trans women.

Now yes you can argue that it's not our problem as they used these facilities without our consent, and yes noone is banning them for facilities designated for their sex, but they don't want to use them. Partly because of the safety argument (womans safety doesn't count....) but also because it takes away the opportunity for validation.

A male who does not have a GRC is legally a male and is treated as such in all circumstances in law.

A male who does have a GRC is legally a female and is treated as such in very limited circumstances in law.

A male who has a GRC has no legal right to use any facilities set aside for females. A GRC has an impact in law on marriage and pensions. Now that we have same-sex marriage and equalisation of pension ages both of these original purposes are defunct.

The GRA 2004 must be repealed to stop this violation of the boundaries of females against their consent.

happydappy2 · 15/07/2022 17:46

I agree, repeal the GRA, no more GRCs and let’s be honest that women need single sex spaces- no males are invited in, no matter how they identify.

male transexuals exist, no one is denying they exist, they just aren’t women.

eleanorwish · 15/07/2022 18:12

And a male with a GRC is still considered to be a man when inheriting titles. That's convenient.

If govt won't repeal the GRA 2004 and stop this fiction that sex can be changed women need to demand a new law making it illegal for males of any description to violate the boundaries of entry to all female designated spaces, services, and sports.

The GRA 2004 is a corrupt and dishonest law and it is being used to violate the consent of females.

Isn't there another exemption for the church? So women cannot become priests.

Just goes to show that women can't identify into a privileged position, and even if men transition they can retain privilege. They knew exactly what they were doing when enacting this legislation, and who it would benefit - it bloody well wasn't women.

BootsAndRoots · 16/07/2022 11:56

There is an obsession with males being able to enter single sex spaces and currently many organisations are working their way around it by making all spaces unisex.

I'm seeing more impact with the unisex spaces than the men in women's only spaces at the moment.

There should be single-sex provision (something the government is trying to enshrine in law, against the wishes of civil servants), and there should be no self-ID into those spaces.

The sheer fucking cheek of "Paris Lees" claiming to be the victim, when in fact he is a convicted criminal who was jailed for an unprovoked assault.

This needs to be brought up every time they appear on screen.

Really? I didn't know that, how embarrassing then for Paris to then try and take the high ground. How feminine.

Rubidium · 16/07/2022 13:32

Paris Lees wrote a book called ‘What it Feels like for a Girl'

Paris also wrote an article a few years ago for Vice called I Love Wolf Whistles and Catcalls; Am I a Bad Feminist?

This article suggests that Paris really doesn’t know what it feels like for a girl.

(Also a quote from this article: ”I'm a feminist because I don't like men telling me how to think or behave or experience the world”)
