Ppl with penises

I feel someone needs to ask the question within the context of erasing women - as appears to be commonly the case - why the reverse is also not happening. So as well as ppl with vaginas, how is it that we are not seeing/hearing the phrase ppl with penises - surely that works both ways? That way we can erase both men and women 😂🤦‍♀️

I think it’s because transwomen would come under the “people with penises” term and we’re not allowed to mention the fact that they’re biologically male.

FetchezLaVache · 08/07/2022 09:29

Why are we not erasing men along with women? "I leave it to yourself to determine".

heartchakra · 08/07/2022 09:34

So what about the male prostate screening programme for example? Isn't it then the case they would say ppl with penises to exclude men who have vaginas .. just playing devil's advocate

Apparently, it was merely an administrative cycle about the schedule of the overhaul of web pages on the NHS site and it's just a coincidence that all of the women's pages were overhauled with gender neutral language of erasure first.

Wasn't that the explanation a few weeks ago as to why the phrases "prostate havers" or "sperm ejaculators" aren't in use?

hallouminatus · 08/07/2022 10:44

I think it has a lot to do with the importance of claiming "most marginalised" status. Any reminder of the female reproductive system of transmen and AFAB NBs strengthens their claim to being marginalised and oppressed, whereas referring to the male organs of transwomen and AMAB NBs weakens their claim.

Or maybe transmen and AFAB NBs object as just strongly as transwomen and AMAB NBs to references to their sexed bodies but their concerns just don't matter as much for some unfathomable reason.

Yeah, funny isn't it that all the transmen are apparently perfectly fine and not at all 'triggered' being referred to by their entirely female reproductive organs but we can't call male people, prostate owners, ball bearers or ejaculators because that is 'dehumanising'.

334bu · 08/07/2022 13:04

Woman can't be used in health material to refer to human female biology because it excludes males who identify as women. Hence the US Women's March being forced to get rid of pussy hats and the London Women's March being told that using it to discuss female health matters was exclusionary of males who identify as women. The converse doesn't happen , because who cares if transmen( being female) are excluded from the category of men. Misogyny and the Patriarchy at its finest.

Datun · 08/07/2022 13:11

Because it's a men's rights movement.

When you have a significant number of men who want to claim the word woman, you have to divorce the word woman from any meaning relying on female biology. Otherwise they can't do it.

Woman is up for grabs by men, therefore it has to have some indefinable meaning.

The converse is not true, because women who want to be men have no power to make men call themselves ejaculators, because transmen are women and no one listens to them.

The industrial bit of gaslighting is that which claims this is coming from transmen, who don't want to be called women, and therefore all women have to be called womb havers. A handful of transmen changing the language of the entire western world? I don't think so.

In fairness there was a whole bit on prostate cancer on daytime tv with “Dr Xand” where the entire time he referred to people with prostates and how these people with prostates should get them checked. I thought the whole thing was actually quite dangerous because do the entire male population know they possess a prostate?

Exactly. And said in half the amount of words than I managed!

And this is why it's so batshit. Do men know they have a prostate? What men? What men?

Those with a prostate, or those with a vagina?

I know I shouldn't laugh but ballbears and ejaculators caused me to smirk significantly.

who cares ?

I do and so do a lot of men and women. In increasing numbers.

TightPants · 08/07/2022 13:58

And it’s particularly confusing and dangerous for those with learning disabilities or if English is not their first language.
Fucking crazy. Men or women simple. Not these word soups that are taking over.

For most men (as far as I can see) it hasn't yet reached the 'interesting enough' threshold. Doubt it ever will. People with cocks ? - whatever....

littlbrowndog · 08/07/2022 16:21

Prostate cancer uk use the word men

they will not back down

said the message has to be clear

Think you may be right as I don't think men care about excluding transmen. Wonder why?

GrinAndVomit · 08/07/2022 18:00

I think the majority of men who don’t know they have a prostate will have learning difficulties and/ or have English as a second language. The TRAs don’t seem to give many shits about either of these groups of people though.

Blankbias · 08/07/2022 18:19

Usually I take these things with a pinch of salt, but I’ve just googled ‘testicular cancer’ and ‘ovarian cancer’. Looked at the first NHS link that came up on both searches.

For testicular cancer:
’Cancer of the testicle is 1 of the less common cancers, and tends to mostly affect men between 15 and 49 years of age.’
For ovarian cancer:
’Ovarian cancer affects the 2 small organs (ovaries) that store the eggs needed to make babies.
Anyone with ovaries can get ovarian cancer, but it mostly affects those over 50.’

The wording does not look consistent to me at all.
