I recently decided to take a look at Mumsnet (after many years not bothering) to see what was happening re: trans debates and the current feminist backlash...

Whilst i get the concerns, i have no clue as to who or what groups are the main players!!!...

Can you give me a potted history and explain who the main protagonists and rivals are?...(nothing too academic as i want to read a few bits with a glass of wine later but not put on my glasses and study)!!

This thread has links to 2 excellent articles in the Times detailing the situation in schools.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4571032-janice-turner-in-the-times-on-what-went-wrong-at-the-tavistock

The break it down for me thread is a mine of information and links:

Jame's Kirkup's article in the Spectator on the Denton's report is eye opening:

Apologies - the first link to the Times articles are NOT about schools but are about children and the Tavistock / detransitioning.

This piece by Helen Joyce (of The Economist), adapted from her book Trans, is a good general summary IMO:

Your best bet is probably the book (or audiobook) Trans by Helen Joyce.

I found this article helpful

I loved this satirical play by Dr Jane Clare Jones

I know you wanted articles but I tend to watch videos.

This is a four parter and well worth watching. Dysphoric:

Another documentary

Another good one from Joyce, an excerpt from her book:

When I'm talking to friends who are very new to this or who (like I used to) have blindly swallowed the current iteration of trans ideology as being "good, kind, rights side of history, left wing, etc", I like to share articles written from a pro trans ideology perspective.

(Important to note this current ideology is not supported by all trans people. But for reasons I don't understand, mainstream media such as BBC & Guardian do not like to platform the trans people who are as horrified as feminists are by what is happening to women and children.)

Here is my favourite. I think the homophobia and sexism shine through, plus the way bullied kids and kids with troubled home lives are failed by the adults in their lives. I think that most people reading this would start to question why the kids had to change their bodies in response to deep rooted problems (misogyny, homophobia) in society, and parental inability to accept kids that don't conform to stereotypes. These kids are crying out for help and the adults told them the problem was located within themselves.

I would also highly recommend Helen Joyce's book Trans. It's very easy to read and understand and covers all the major issues. It takes you through the early history right up to the present.

For some excellent graphs showing the erasure of lesbians (and gay men) from the annual reports of various LGBTQIAP+ organisations, here is Sociologist Michael Biggs' analysis (as cited in Kathleen Stock's Material Girls): users.ox.ac.uk/~sfos0060/LGBT_figures.shtml

This is an article I keep coming back to:

www.feministcurrent.com/2017/07/26/white-feminism-thing-gender-identity-ideology-epitomizes/

IloveHolby · 20/06/2022 20:43

I recently read this and felt it laid out all the key concerns very well:

caroldansereau.substack.com/p/hitchhikers-guide-to-the-transgender?s=r

Also for things to watch this 4 part film on Youtube is excellent:

Another one I came across through one of the Benjamin Boyce interviews:

I have read a lot over the last year and although I try and keep track it's very hard. The first two websites I really read were the one by Maria MacLachlan - she's the feminist who was assaulted at Speakers corner in London, and one by a gender critical transwoman Miranda Yardley:

www.peaktrans.org/
mirandayardley.com/en/

Maria regularly updates her website with relevant news articles and campaigns.
Miranda doesn't seem to update hers anymore but hers is still a useful website.

IloveHolby · 20/06/2022 20:45

I have been listening to the Gender; A Wider Lens podcasts too - I recommend podcasts as you can have them on while doing other things.

nightshade · 20/06/2022 21:19

Wow!..these are all super...

Thoroughly enjoying them all and ery helpful!
