Can't see this shared yet.
"The advert said the speak-out champion would “be responsible for improving confidence amongst our employees in being able to speak openly about their experiences”. Except for those pesky women of the oldfashioned kind, I bet.

If that’s an example of what she has said then it seems fairly mild, especially compared to some.

Plasmodesmata · 02/06/2022 07:01

Is the role supposed to be just trans related or is it generally diversity? Is Sophie going to represent people with any of the other protected characteristics?

Clangyleg · 02/06/2022 07:02

Pronouns will be mandatory I imagine, so will there be problems when there is a conflict of interest? Women speaking out about eg mixed sex toilets, rapists being pandered to over their victims etc ?

Motorina · 02/06/2022 07:08

If I worked for the CPS then this would concern me, in just the same way it would concern me to have a 'speak out champion' who was known to have used racist or homophobic slurs. I certainly would not feel comfortable speaking out to this individual should I experience sexism and misogyny. That's not because the individual is trans, but because of the historic use of slurs.

Rightsraptor · 02/06/2022 07:11

And women are supposed to have faith in the CPS?

Another nail in the coffin.

Humbold · 02/06/2022 07:54

I wonder who they will encourage to 'Speak Out'? 31k for WFH 4 days a week - kerrching! The CPS are a serious SERIOUS organisation right? I wonder what they were looking for when they advertised for this position? Anyone see the Ad?

Humbold · 02/06/2022 08:06

"How did Bournemouth react when the photographer they knew as “a fat bald bloke” called Steve returned for the new season as Sophie? “We had a meeting in the owner’s box overlooking the pitch.” The six people in attendance included the chairman, Jeff Mostyn, as well as Eddie Howe and his then-assistant Jason Tindall. “And me in a pencil skirt and heels, looking fabulous,” Cook adds."

Why do people think that donning a pencil skirt and heels instantly makes you look 'fabulous'? The above is from a Guardian article from August 2020 in case anyone cares to look (I know some don't like giving them clicks)
www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2020/aug/31/sophie-cook-whitehawk-fc-transgender-bournemouth

Hopefully their remit includes speaking out against misogyny and sexist stereotyping.

Helleofabore · 02/06/2022 08:11

This person has a long track history in denigrating women, females who disagree with their views.

I could not image a worse ‘champion’ for the CPS to hire at this time with multiple layers of issues that are deeply harmful to females.

It is like they don’t realize they are now very far behind the ball but are still on target to make that play despite the ball being long gone. I cannot see this hire working out for them, it will be like a Bergdorf/L’Oréal arrangement.

This person will not be able to hide their own hatred of women not agreeing with them.

Albgo · 02/06/2022 08:14

@Humbold what's wrong with the guardian??

Oldergel · 02/06/2022 08:18

There's a good article in The Times this morning which puts numbers into perspective, across all spheres. I think the CPS should have looked at the ONS figures, before they appointed this person.

NashvilleQueen · 02/06/2022 08:22

Over 50% of cps employees are women.

How will they have confidence in their new freedom to speak out champion given she would refer to anyone GC as a terf? Surprising appointment.

ResisterRex · 02/06/2022 08:25

The CPS ought to be capable of due diligence. There is a lot in the public domain to suggest this person is partial and should never have been appointed:

https://mobile.twitter.com/obsolete__units/status/1531665465537437697

So is this conspiracy or cockup? I'm sure we will be told the latter. To add insult to injury, it's a non-job.

£31K won't be all of the cost as everyone has to have IT, service from HR, pension etc. The EHRC is facing a big cut in funding but there is money scattered about. Like this post which should never have been created.

Where do you want to start? I don’t reward them with advertising clicks.

Motorina · 02/06/2022 08:42

I had a nose through the appointee's twitter feed, and have yet to find anything to indicate any concern for any of the other protected groups.

I also found this: www.lgbtqnation.com/2018/07/can-trans-person-arrested-rape-dont-disclose-medical-history-first/

Given the appointment is to the CPS, this is alarming.

FrancescaContini · 02/06/2022 08:46

What a terrible choice, particularly given she’s used the slur beginning with t to silence women. Sorry, womxn.

TullyApplebottom · 02/06/2022 08:48

The CPS is in real trouble at the moment. Desperately underfunded and understaffed, like the rest of the criminal justice system.
max Hill needs to be thinking about the priorities of the public he is supposed to serve. Not his priorities as an old white male trying to stay relevant.

From that article:

"While the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has said they have guidelines in place to prevent abuse of these rules, including guidelines to ensure transgender equality management, activists like Cook fear that the lack of clarity in the laws leave it open to abuse."

I wonder what it was about the opportunity to "speak out" within the heart of the organisation whose job it is to prosecute, that first attracted this person to the job?

The comments under the article are very reassuring, this is the most recommended:

Another non job, filled by a non entity, wasting tax payer money to advance an extremist ideology, championed by a few on behalf of 0.04% of the population.
Where are all the grown ups?

The question is, how do we get people to do more than just comment in a newspaper an engage more to push back against this.?

'Anger after Labour HQ forces controversial Brighton TV presenter back onto candidate shortlist'

www.brightonandhovenews.org/2018/05/22/anger-after-labour-hq-forces-controversial-brighton-tv-presenter-back-onto-candidate-shortlist/

'The row over a Brighton media personality’s bid to be reselected as a Labour candidate has deepened after party’s HQ insisted she should again be shortlisted as a candidate despite the local party’s misgivings.

Sophie Cook, a former Latest TV newsreader who now presents a show on Brighton’s Radio Reverb, was dropped as a potential candidate by the East Worthing and Shoreham party after questions were raised about the bankruptcy of her company Seeker News in 2013 – but this decision was overruled by Labour head office.

As a result, the other two candidates dropped out, scuppering the selection process. And now a new process has started – but the party’s National Executive Committee has insisted Ms Cook makes the shortlist once more.' ....

.
.... 'Ms Cook was taken off the shortlist by local members because she didn’t answer questions about the bankruptcy of Seeker News to their satisfaction. The company, which published a free newspaper in Poole, went bust owing almost £90,000 to creditors.

The administrators report, released in January last year, said that the directors – Ms Cook and her then wife Dawn – withdrew almost £25,000 from the company as loans to supplement their salary – money which there was no realistic prospect of being paid back following liquidation. HMRC rules then required tax to be paid on any loans over £5,000 at the rate of 25%.

It’s alleged that Ms Cook had not told the panel about the information in the first round interview, and could not satisfactorily answer their questions when they called her back having been informed about undisclosed irregularities.'

The question is, how do we get people to do more than just comment in a newspaper an engage more to push back against this.?

Various VCSO need to organise a letter writing or similar campaign to have attention paid to all protected characteristics. We have to contact our MPs with general concerns.

I am somewhat alarmed by this from Jon Pike:

Oh dear, do I have to recycle my Sophie Cook stories?
Like the time Sophie snd pals tried to take over my labour party branch, standing for Chair at her first (?) meeting?

She exited the party a little later, pursued by fraud allegations.

Similar to TENI in Ireland, there seems to be a trend for these 'woman' to have dodgy accounting systems, and use company or public money for their own use.

Another theme is that they are excused at every corner , and their dodgy dealings swept under the carpet - I suppose if you are in the 'special' group, your behaviour doesn't need scrutiny.

I knew I recognised the name. One of the successful graduates of The training offered to women for shortlisting purposes.

Sophie stood as an MP in my friend's constituency. Didn't Sophie go through the Jo Cox Leadership thing with other notable alumni?
