We have a desperate need for therapists but they priorities surgeries. I feel so angry tax payers money is funding this ideology.

Yet people are waiting years for other treatments. The NHS should not be involved at all in this dangerous activity.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 23/05/2022 10:43

The NHS has a legal duty to do this.

Whether or not we need widespread conversations about the array of services available from the NHS is a different matter. It seems, as a population, we're very aware of the need for an affordable and sustainable NHS. We tend to be in favour of the idea of removing some services but rarely ones we realistically see ourselves needing.

Utterly chilling.

tabbycatstripy · 23/05/2022 10:48

Government has to get a grip on this. There is a set of fundamental questions that need to be answered, and one is ‘what are the causes of gender dysphoria in female adolescents and young adults?’

Because it is more than possible on the evidence that the taxpayer is paying for surgeries that do these patients more harm than good.

EdithStourton · 23/05/2022 10:51

And meanwhile a friend of mine had to wait so long for the excision of a lesion on her face that she ended up needing plastic surgery. More stress and worry for her, a much bigger op, more cost to the NHS.

As a society, we need to rethink our priorities.

Johnnysgirl · 23/05/2022 10:53

Can you explain why you think the NHS has a legal duty to accommodate this @EmbarrassingHadrosaurus?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 23/05/2022 10:53

Johnnysgirl · 23/05/2022 10:45

A legal duty?

Yep! Just like it being legal to house men in women's prisons. Because when the guidelines and laws were written nobody anticipated Gender Ideology!

happydappy2 · 23/05/2022 10:53

The NHS has a legal duty to 'first do no harm'

Anything else is buying into a dangerous ideology....

Peoples taxes should not fund unproven 'treatments'

Both very easy to Google. @Johnnysgirl and @EmbarrassingHadrosaurus isn't necessarily expressing wholehearted support, just the fact of the matter!

You object to cancer drug trials being funded or partially funded by the government then?

Cancer is a life limiting illness without treatment. What a ridiculous comparison.

BananaShrimp · 23/05/2022 12:43

This pisses me off no end. I was born with breasts and they’re drastically different sizes, I don’t have mirrors in my house because I feel so sad and ashamed when I look at my body. The NHS won’t make my breasts the same size because it’s “cosmetic surgery”. But someone who was born with no breasts can have breasts put on and that’s absolutely fine, they’ll pay for that, and equally they’ll pay for someone with breasts to have them taken off. How is this fair?

It's not. It's scandalous.

It’s not ridiculous at all. The PP said the government shouldn’t be paying unproven treatment. What about new antidepressants, should the government fund those trials? Or are you just ok with anything as long as it’s not to do with trans people?

Who knows? But in the fine print, the boring and dusty detail, there is an imperative for the NHS to provide for various dysphorias etc.

Hopefully with all the HoC/L discussions around 'mother' 'non binary; 'GRC' etc this will change and become a more sane policy!

I'm ok with anything that's medically necessary.

S'more not being OK with giving men treatment for female issues that women cannot access.

A bit like the transwomen being placed in female prisons. That sort of thing.

Bugger all to do with being anti trans. More wondering why the inequity exists.

Me too.
And I am pissed off that we are performing double masectomies on healthy breasts while people wait years for essential respiratory etc appts.

Noisyprat · 23/05/2022 13:26

Given the state of the NHS this is scandalous. The NHS should not be removing healthy body parts. If trans people can access services because of their dysphoria then women should be able to access breast reduction etc because for some it is mentally and physically difficult.

This is why I do not want to pay more tax to fund the NHS, it has really gone too far with all it's treatments.

Is being 'trans' or gender dysphoria an illness? If not, why does it require medical treatment? Are any other non-illnesses treated with surgery and irreversible medication?

If it is an illness is it a mental or physical illness? If it is a mental condition, why is it being treated with alterations to body parts rather than psychotherapy and other treatments which are normally used to treat mental illness?

Drug trials are not paid for by the NHS. Yes I would object to the government paying for a trial of a commercial drug developed by a huge multinational pharmaceutical company.

I presume by this comparison though you are saying that 'gender affirming treatment' should take place only within the context of a clinical trial and be subject to ethical approval?
