No mention of just saying “TWAW” being all that is needed. No mention of invasion of the change rooms.

I could go on.

@Helleofabore I’ve just read about the surfing. I can’t believe they enthusiastically designed a policy just to make sure Sasha can compete as a woman😞

Helleofabore · 19/05/2022 12:18

Yes, time. And the wording that Lowerson aparently is proud of was this:

'We can do it together and make it amazing or we can do it terribly and it’s a circus and you guys are the only ones who are going to come out looking silly… I’d prefer to not go through that.”

A 40 something year old male threatening Surfing Australia that there will be a 'circus' if they did not get what they wanted.

I think any coastal community that holds surfing competitions and women and girls going to be competing in competitions should start working out that this is not just a 'single issue' platform that Katherine Deves is supporting and that it won't impact 'local issues'.

I wonder is Little Nippers going to be similarly impacted?

MidCenturyClegs · 19/05/2022 12:35

@LadyCassandra there will be as there are in the U.K. single issue voters, but it's not about 'trans issues'. It's about about women's rights. 51% of us having those thrown down the drain.
Albo's government will follow Biden, who hates women and tells us we are males and females, if you can't define what a woman is how can you protect her reproductive rights?

Agree with PP about the surfing bloke. How many surfing communities actually know that this happened though when the win was just recorded as a woman's win? So surfing communities may not know yet what's coming and it will be a bigger wave than even Sasha could ever surf.

I live in a safe Labor seat, and for the first time in my life I'm contemplating spoiling my (House of Reps) ballot. I can't support the Liberals on so many issues, but I dread to think what will happen to women's rights under Labor's watch - especially if they need the support of the Greens!

timeisnotaline · 20/05/2022 04:57

There is a good chance they won’t need the greens if enough independents are voted in and support them. That Rohan leppert debacle was another nail in the coffin for the greens for me- he seemed like a decent guy.

@Helleofabore this is the article I read and it’s a completely different story than that one you quote- I have no idea which is accurate but they cannot both be!!

NotYourCisterinAus · 20/05/2022 05:45

Oh, that article about the surfer! #facepalms#

@timeisnotaline I live in a VERY safe Labor seat, so whoever I vote for it doesn't really affect things. I've been thinking of just writing a message on my House of Reps ballot paper (for example, #respectmysex and #savewomenssport) and voting properly on the Senate ballot where I have more of a chance of making a difference.

Helleofabore · 20/05/2022 06:08

Yes. I also have read that one, in fact I posted that link yesterday too.

Two totally different stories. Could be insider knowledge, could be a deliberate attempt to portray them in a negative light.

However, both could still be true.

Either way, it doesn’t change the result.

And it doesn’t surprise me that a male surf judge was supposedly so welcoming to a male surfer entering a female category. And it wouldn’t surprise me if that was also a relationship of long standing considering Lowerson is 43 .

The result is a 43 year old male won a female surfing competition.

Helleofabore · 20/05/2022 06:11

Sorry if that sounded ranty time, I know you know all this. That last part was me having a tired rant about how these things happen.

Sorry @Helleofabore I missed you posting it! Rant away 😃 I’ve been awol today - I’m in Kooyong so very distracting!! Still watching!

MidCenturyClegs · 21/05/2022 14:54

Keeping an eye on it.. Deves out I hear although she did INCREDIBLY well considering all the smears and has brought gender ideology in to the conversation 👏👏👏👏👏

ThinkingaboutLangClegosaurus · 21/05/2022 16:08

The attacks she’s been getting the last few days have been terrible and unrelenting. Article after article, threats in Twitter to burn her to death. I think the goal is to drive her out of public life and send a warning to anyone woman who tries to campaign on these issues that they’ll get the same treatment.

I'm sure that is the goal. It takes a heroic woman (or man) to risk the tsunami of aggression the trans movement likes to whip up, especially against women. What's most disturbing is the ABC coverage -- very poor for a national broadcaster. So partisan, so full of opinions claimed as facts, so lacking evidence or balance that it reads more like something from Stonewall or a student newspaper.

Helleofabore · 21/05/2022 16:48

Kooyong, ay time? What do you think of Monique Ryan? I couldn’t get a read on her.

timeisnotaline · 21/05/2022 19:23

I thought it was a good sign she was prepared to sue to get voting access for people with covid, and was amazed that she held her own in the debate with Josh. That was when I first considered she might win, as I’d assumed he would wipe the floor with her, just from experience and the extra knowledge and insight he must have into a wide range of political issues from having been a very senior mp for years. She’s been working very hard (as have her volunteer army), and I feel like if she was hard to work with, backstabby /toss colleagues in front of tanks or any negatives like that then colleagues would have leaked it? I’m sure lib staffers went looking for that info- Let’s see!

Helleofabore · 21/05/2022 22:52

I saw some of her posts, about her mural etc. She did seem very switched on. But I did wonder if she was supportive of prioritising gender over sex in all instances or if she left that discussion alone?

timeisnotaline · 22/05/2022 00:02

everyone who could left that issue totally alone. For the teal independents it was just irrelevant to their brief, I don’t have any expectations of Monique doing other than ignoring it, I doubt she’s confronted the issues already, having already decided it mattered is about the only reason I can see her mentioning it and that seems unlikely. Albanese is hoping it doesn’t come up. The liberal party are probably going to step firmly away from it after the beating they’ve taken, I think the Katherine Deves candidacy has resulted in the issue being regarded as politically too damaging although the profile may help once things have died down. Re Monique specifically, she has a huge learning curve ahead of her and needs to be all systems go to benefit from initial goodwill and momentum, she will probably be hoping anything she regards as peripheral stays off her plate.

Helleofabore · 22/05/2022 08:57

Thanks again time. Does that mean she will be receiving some pre-emotive letters to start making her aware of the nuances?

Because we know that Albanese won’t be able to dodge this issue. I doubt it will now be going away, the push to make federal legislation will be strong. And Claire Chandler was not on this election cycle.

We also know from experience here, that dodging the issue the way Starmer tried is futile.

I predict it will not go away having watched the awareness spread here in the UK over the past 3 years and it was only that slow because the court cases and reviews took time. There is more evidence available now so I think it will be an issue during this term of government.

timeisnotaline · 22/05/2022 15:36

Thank goodness for Claire chandler, but I really don’t anticipate much govt time for this topic from just about anyone for the next 6 months minimum. They will just think it’s not that important it needs precious time to be used addressing it now, despite being able to be given evidence to the contrary. We shall see. I predict responses like ‘if this election has shown us anything it is that Australians see right through and are fed up with cynical attempts to feed division, and have tolerance for a wide range of diversity in our society’ end speech.
