No mention of just saying “TWAW” being all that is needed. No mention of invasion of the change rooms.

I could go on.

Ahhhhh…. I see. I am sorry. That first sentence threw me.

(and welcome to MN by the way)

LilacTwine · 25/04/2022 13:11

My impression is that Morrison is also known to direct most of his campaigning towards men who might, just might, vote Labor. So trans woman in sport is one way to do that because sport is so central to Australian culture.

Also typical of Morrison is to use a woman in his party to do his dirty work.

OP posts:
MidCenturyClegs · 18/05/2022 10:57

Why is it always "banning trans from women's sports" as opposed to "banning males with from female sports".
Or at least saying transwomen (transmen a whole different issue obvs but nobody cares about them).

What are the polls generally saying @TheSandgroper for the election? I did read recently Labor.

MidCenturyClegs · 18/05/2022 11:01

Just to be clear when I said 'nobody cares about transmen' I meant it is men and the media - who don't give them a single thought.

(Wonder why that is, could it be to do with the fact that they're FEMale and both socially conditioned to not make demands and in sports have next to no chance of taking away anything from men)

TheSandgroper · 18/05/2022 11:42

@MidCenturyClegs I haven’t been keeping track but a quick look at the headlines shows Labor getting in. You can take your pick whether it will be a wide or a narrow margin.

The Liberals have been in for a number of terms now and Australians may have a strong “it’s time for a change’ feeling, which we are wont to do. And then we have Scotty from Marketing (PM) who has supported Katharine Deves to the extent that he pulled rank and parachuted her into contesting the seat.

Saturday night with wine beside the fire is always the best bit so I can’t wait. However, pre poll and postal votes aren’t counted on the night. www.perthnow.com.au/politics/federal-election/federal-election-2022-greenfields-pre-poll-voting-centre-at-eastlake-church-garners-most-early-votes-in-wa-c-6834617 This year will be messy and I predict number of seats will not be decided the night.

I know a few Australians living in the States and in the U.K. who have been voting at their local embassies. A couple in France too. I'm guessing their votes are counted there and then their numbers shipped off.
I have family in Australia including young girls and boys so keenly watching. Thank you for standing up for women and girls over there Flowers

Albo is good on local issues. He was my MP for a while and was very good back then for our electorate.

But ... it will be interesting to see if he gets in, just how he will deal with the gender identity issues at a federal level.

TheSandgroper · 18/05/2022 12:51

If he has to rely on the Greens, we’re buggered.

It any political party has to rely on the Australian Greens as a coalition partner, Australia is buggered.

Perhaps a vote for Pauline?

OMG Sandgroper!

I would say 'please explain!' but I think it is clear.

MidCenturyClegs · 18/05/2022 13:43

What worries me is that it's the likes of Pauline Hanson delivering this message. It does add a nail in the coffin to women's rights when your traditional leftie voters despise her and her racist (in the real sense, going back 30 years) views.

TheSandgroper · 18/05/2022 13:44

She totally owns that.

TheSandgroper · 18/05/2022 13:48

I’m just poking around her website and, fuck, this is sponsored by Malcolm Roberts. She can certainly read her audience, though.

She could do nothing but own 'please explain'. I remember her turning it to her advantage very early on.

You know what I mean though, right?

It's not the same as ppl accusing PP / KJK as being far right because she talked to Tucker in the US

Pauline does have a reputation of being racist going back decades so it makes the gender critical movement harder to be seen as benign.

I guess what is needed is politicians like Labour MP Rosie Duffield here in the U.K. speaking up. That comes from GC women working within Labor in Aus to sway minds in support of women and children.

Helleofabore · 18/05/2022 14:13

I found the stubby cooler very provoking. It certainly fits Pauline's branding. She is quite masterful to playing to her audience. Does anyone take notice of one nation anymore though?

What is needed is female MPs and Senators across all parties to come out to support women and children there, as in Australia, absolutely! Drown out Pauline and her extremist views on anything.

MidCenturyClegs · 18/05/2022 15:56

Exactly, cross-partisan support.

I enjoyed watching this the other day, 2 Aussie GC fems women chatting about all of this.

MidCenturyClegs · 19/05/2022 00:32

Just watched this interview of
Katherine Deves, wow she's brilliant

fb.watch/d5eQkotc2c/

timeisnotaline · 19/05/2022 00:36

Katherine Deves is not likely to get in, I hope she hasn’t found this whole experience too traumatic. Worth saying that while it’s fair to say the issues are more fundamental for working class women, it’s more and more a feature in private schools and healthcare and these themes affect waringah. (Coed schools more so than single sex, single sex
schools seem to have a decent grasp of being sex based.)

TheSandgroper · 19/05/2022 03:15

If Labor get 8n, this will likely be a scenario

Helleofabore · 19/05/2022 08:11

Still, the fact that Katherine is now actually polling well despite all the crappy headlines, the lack of media engagement, is a sign that the issues she supports are very much aligned with the majority views.

It will be interesting is the male WA surfing female title winner will further illustrate what she is pointing out. We now need some female surfers to come forward.

I live in that electorate. This is a ‘look over here’ tactic by the Prime Minister to distract people from the actual issues (rorts, government incompetence) and a dog whistle to the conservative and religious voters in other electorates. He doesn’t care about women or trans issues. His words are carefully calculated to appeal to the conservative voter (‘won’t allow to be silenced’; cancel culture; woke). The liberal party has an awful record on women. Scott Morrison has been rude and disrespectful to women raped in parliament and to child abuse activists. But he is a wily politician who will do anything to win.

Zali is an excellent local member trying to hold the government to account. Her point has been that this is not a key issue for the electorate and deserves a sensitive and nuanced discussion, rather than a trans people be used as a political punching bag.

Many people agree that men should not play in women’s sports but this is not a big issue in Australia at the moment. And the way that the government has used this a wedge politics means that it is hard to have a respectful discussion on this.

I came on to say the same.
I live in that electorate and despite agreeing with Katherine on trans issues, I simply cannot vote for the liberal party.
Zali is a good pick for our area.
