My Lib Dem candidate says that you are a woman if you feel like a woman

That her friend transitioned and is now a biological woman
That men with beards shouldn't be allowed in women's loos but if they look like women that is ok. That if I see a man with a beard in a womens toilet I should call the police!
That toilets should be based on what you look like not your sex
That women should be allowed to compete in women's sport as well as men in womens and that would make it fair.
Men should be allowed in M&S changing rooms (but not if you can see their penis)
And many other gems.

She wasn't aware of any womens movements or that anyone was unhappy about biological men using women's facilities.

A finally as she walked down my drive-that the Lib Dem party is mostly women and so they know about women

Predictions of a huge surge in Lib Dem seats at the local elections. As a voting issue this cuts through only with very small numbers. I think it mostly benefits Tories rather than damages other parties- ie it makes some Tory voters who were considering something else return to the fold

Incidentally about the Covid sex evidence bit on that 'debunking' document. There is still evidence that females with premenstrual levels of oestrogen have some protection against serious Covid. However, postmenopausal women taking HRT don't seem to have any extra protection, and therefore it is vanishingly unlikely that transwomen will have 'female' Covid risk profiles. Just chucking synthetic hormones at a body doesn't recreate the complex physiological interaction between endogenous hormones and the immune system, which as we all know is different in men and women.

I popped over to the LibDem Voice website to see ether there were any green shoots of recovery and found this -

www.libdemvoice.org/we-must-adopt-a-jenkinsite-approach-to-support-trans-people-70165.html

In the comments there are a few sensible responses, rejecting TERF etc. Not enough to give me any confidence but a bit of progress...

This is bigger than any one party. Apart from the Tories, it's a fact that Greens, Lib Dems and Labour all bemoan the presence of so-called T3rfs in their ranks.

And all have small numbers of unpleasant, usually young, people actively acting against the interests of women.

And by saying - oh it's just a fringe issue - as Starmer and Davey have done, they cede power to the activists

@SpinningMeSoftly Daisy Cooper is a first term MP, elected, in part, thanks to Tory and Labour voters voting for her as well as LDs. She is the first LD MP in her constituency and replaced a very unpopular Tory MP at the second attempt. She has established herself very quickly as a incredibly effective local constituency MP who cares very much about constituents, works very hard and is very communicative. (She was already established as a pretty savvy operator at Westminster)
From her social media and responses to some local constituents writing about the conversion therapy legislation, it seems like she is fully on board with the LD party line on gender ideology; this could become an electoral problem for her in the next GE if LD/Lab women become or stay single issue voters on this and withhold their votes/spoil ballots in significant numbers - particularly if combined with Tory voters returning to the Tories (for this, or other reasons)

Well maybe she should take a long hard look at what gender ideology means for womens rights? Why us it our fault if a Tory gets in ,?

Didn't they get a massive donation from a pharmaceutical company who make puberty blockers?
Ferring pharmaceuticals?
So they are just sell outs. I wonder if anyone is paying to pull the strings of the SNP or have they lost the plot of their own accord

The Tories are the only party you can trust to do the right thing by women and for that they will be getting my vote.

Peregrina · 20/04/2022 07:56

Sadly all the parties with the exception of the Tories and whatever UKIP call themselves now have completely sold out on this issue. However, although Johnson may know what a woman is, neither he nor his party, judging by their policies and voting record, believe that they are anything but inferior.

I just long for this madness to end.

@334bu There is nothing in my post that casts blame on anyone. I am in agreement with regard to her stance and I am merely pointing out that if she doesn’t rethink her position on womens rights, she risks losing her seat (which she probably does care about, even if women rights don’t seem that high up her/the LDs agenda) because many, many women in her constituency won’t vote for a party that won’t defend womens rights
