Interesting summary of Jess Phillips by voting record

gendercriticalwoman.blog/2022/04/11/jess-phillips-feminist-meninist/

I actually think MPs like Jess Phillips are worse than Starmer at least he says the four word mantra and is honest about his opposition to women's rights when they meet trans rights.

Interesting and awful. She should not be reading that list each year.

FOJN · 12/04/2022 20:09

I have posted about my contempt for and distrust of JP on previous threads but the evidence in that blog is quite a damning indictment, her disregard for women's concerns is worse than I thought. Jess and the Fawcett Society are not considering, nevermind, centering women in their "feminism".

Abhannmor · 12/04/2022 20:48

Her working class hero act is getting a bit tiresome. Considering how pally she is with Greasy Mugg.

FemaleAndLearning · 12/04/2022 20:51

The link doesn't work for me.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 12/04/2022 20:55

My word, her way of being appears far from feminist. Unlike her rhetoric.

ThorFull · 12/04/2022 21:08

I don’t think that article is fair. JP has done tons of work to help women and vulnerable people. None of that is mentioned. Does none of her other work count?

ChristinaXYZ · 12/04/2022 22:06

Link not working
Not sure why - it is ok for me.

She’s shown us who she is over and over again, why is anyone surprised?

She’s a career politician - you don’t get there by having integrity and principles. She does what she thinks will be popular.

Stillmousy · 12/04/2022 22:11

Agree.

LauriePartridge4Eva · 12/04/2022 22:14

I never, ever trusted her. She is absolutely a career politician - my feeling is she was/is interested in feminism BUT her career took priority. She never forgot though; as a result spotted the likelihood that swathes of women feel the same and that few politicians do, and she exploited this.

TinyRebel · 12/04/2022 22:15

Not looked at the link but I was very pleased to see that she was unequivocally clear about her support for what appeared to be the Nordic Model when questioned at the Labour Women's Conference by a 'Sex Work is Work' Young Labour type about whether she supports full decriminalisation of 'sex work'. She did not use the term 'sex work' , referenced prostituted women, abuse and trafficking and said that she could not support the pimps and punters in having their abuse of women decriminalised.
It was rather heartening to see actually. She stressed that she wasn't referring to Labour Policy on the matter and made it clear it was her own view though.

I think her inner feminist tries to get out, sometimes.

Alcoh · 12/04/2022 23:13

Ok. Not for me

DomesticatedZombie · 12/04/2022 23:41

Hmph.

WalrusSubmarine · 12/04/2022 23:48

I agree her inner feminist tries to get out sometimes. It’s such a shame that even the most basic level of feminism (just asking for a fair deal for women) gets squashed down by everything else.

ChristinaXYZ · 13/04/2022 10:32

The trouble with letting her inner feminist out only sometimes if that if she cannot unequivocally say what a woman is and defend others who say that then what is the point of all the rest?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 13/04/2022 10:56

I can't condemn her for that.

Like me and many other posters here, she believes that women need to be protected and that trans people also need to be protected. She believes that transomen ar not a threat to women.

The difference is that I have had my epiphany. I now know that my belief was naive, simplistic, essentially dahngerous to women. Jess has not.

I won't condemn her. I will, however, continue to write to her to explain why I disagree with her. Maybe something I/we write might be her lightbulb moment. That would be a better outcome than condemning her.

GCAndProud · 13/04/2022 10:57

I think she knows deep down what’s going on and I don’t think she genuinely thinks TWAW. Sadly, the lure of fame/fortune is too strong. And she can see what’s happening to her brave colleague, Rosie Duffield, and doesn’t want that for herself.

But, with some cognitive dissonance, I also believe this.

Won't stop me from corresponding though!

Jeremy Kyle asks "can a woman have a penis?"

Labour MP Jess Phillips: "No, of course a woman can't have a penis! A trans woman may have a penis."

Too late. I don't think it's the case that Boris is "making it difficult" for "people like me" (ie Jess)

I definitely don't think that Boris "whipped MPs against abortion rights". If she's referring to the home abortions vote, then my understanding is it was redrafted in order to be legally workable. And it was a free vote.

Inconvenient facts. But facts.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 13/04/2022 19:21

Labour MP Jess Phillips: "No, of course a woman can't have a penis! A trans woman may have a penis."

It's a start!

ResisterRex · 13/04/2022 19:30

It's not a start if she's changing with the wind AND dropping abortion in. We've seen abortion being dropped in too often where our rights are concerned. It's a bit too much like the US, where it's dangled over women to make sure they vote in line. Then nothing changes to improve access to it anyway.

I'm very suspicious about this. We should be on alert for this kind of crap.

LizzieSiddal · 13/04/2022 19:33

I agree it’s a start! A week ago nobody in Labour would have said that, apart form Rosie Duffield.
It’s just a shame Labour didn’t listen to Rosie and Women in general, they’ve only addressed their stupidity because journos are asking them questions and Johnson was so clear (though I do agree him!).
