OP posts:

They're talking about Respect my Sex now

WinterTrees · 12/04/2022 10:04

Just switched on. 'Boozy lunch' is the headline going into her introduction!

Thelikelylass · 12/04/2022 10:07

listening now...

WinterTrees · 12/04/2022 10:15

EB seems to be looking for a scrap where there isn't one? It sounds like she's trying to trip RD up with the definition of woman - 'what is Labour's definition?' 'Well, that's complicated isn't it?' 'Well it shouldn't be!' 'I KNOW!'

Awkwardy · 12/04/2022 10:15

The 'biting point' between Self-ID for trans people and maintaining single sex spaces. Ooo, the sunlight

CaveMum · 12/04/2022 10:16

I'm listening a bit behind but god Rosie's good!

Charley50 · 12/04/2022 10:18

So much pussy-footing around. And yes, EB seems to be trying to trip her up.

Awkwardy · 12/04/2022 10:19

Rosie finds it hard to even say the word 'queer'.

WinterTrees · 12/04/2022 10:20

Commenter emailing in to say that transwomen are 'more vulnerable than any other group'. Frustrated that RD is not challenging that nonsense statistic!

Charley50 · 12/04/2022 10:20

Why didn't EB bring up offensive tweets with that person she interviewed last week?

Why does she always read out the tweets that are so disingenuous and supportive of trans women being in women's spaces?

NeedToKnow101 · 12/04/2022 10:21

@WinterTrees

Yep me too
WinterTrees · 12/04/2022 10:23

This is really frustrating. EB saying she had a message from someone on this 'niche issue' saying they don't even understand what's going on or the lingo that surrounds it.

THAT'S BECAUSE IT'S BEEN IGNORED, SIDELINED, OBFUSCATED AND LIED ABOUT BY THE BBC AND THE MSM FOR YEARS.

bellinisurge · 12/04/2022 10:24

Go Rosie. Stopped what I'm doing to listen to her.

Charley50 · 12/04/2022 10:24

@WinterTrees EXACTLY!!!!!

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 12/04/2022 10:24

@Charley50

So much pussy-footing around. And yes, EB seems to be trying to trip her up.
I’m not seeing like that so much as she’s making sure she interviews her robustly, as robustly as any other guest on either side of this debate. There’s no point in giving anyone an easy ride in interview or else face accusations of bias etc - the point is Rosie is giving a good account of herself.
ResisterRex · 12/04/2022 10:25

@Awkwardy

Rosie finds it hard to even say the word 'queer'.
I'm behind but just heard this. Personally, I refuse to write this word at work or to say it at work because I know it has a history and I disagree it's been "reclaimed". It feels very uncomfortable to me, too.
Awkwardy · 12/04/2022 10:25

Real blind spot for Barnett isn't it?

Charley50 · 12/04/2022 10:29

@DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat - True, I just feel like the combo of firing questions, interrupting Rosie's answers, and reading out nonsense tweets, meant that Rosie may have felt on the back foot and attacked yet again.

WinterTrees · 12/04/2022 10:32

I do really rate Emma Barnett and have great respect for her, but sometimes I feel she just misses the bullseye in an interview.

This one had the potential cover some really interesting ground and drill down on key points to provide clarification to listeners (and voters) who are still not quite sure about the issues, but it was like she chose to apply the laser in the wrong places. A lot of wheel spinning but no forward motion. Why? It didn't seem like the points she was pressing on were the ones that mattered? RD has made it clear she doesn't support Labour's official line on this, so why grill her on Labour's official line? It felt a bit directionless, like EB didn't really know what she was trying to get at (and neither did RD!)

Charley50 · 12/04/2022 10:37

I agree Willow. Whenever EB interviews GC women it feels like she just tries to get through it without getting down to the nitty gritty that men are in women's spaces uninvited, and disrupting them terribly. And that teenage girls are collateral damage. I think the BBC are pressuring her.

zanahoria · 12/04/2022 10:40

Personally, I refuse to write this word at work or to say it at work because I know it has a history and I disagree it's been "reclaimed".

Plus I have no idea what it means any more. Has it been reclaimed by homosexuals or nicked by blue haired hetero sexuals?

Bobnotpop · 12/04/2022 10:50

I’m not sure I entirely agree, I think Emma did a pretty good job considering the parameters she has to work within. As a former member of the Labour Party who has left over the issue of the rights and safety of women and girls I was very interested to hear Rosie’s take on the party line. I need to hear that there is a faction within the party who are fighting for our rights and that they are being heard. I want to know how she squares her beliefs against the views of the leadership because there is nothing I want more than to be back on board with Labour. Until they understand that this is about women rights and not about being anti trans I can’t go back, but it gave me hope to hear her.

Did she say that KS has said a woman is an adult human female, I thought she did?

DrBlackbird · 12/04/2022 10:52

But it must be a minefield for someone like RD. She raises a specific safeguarding concern (eg prison) and would be hammered/hounded to exhaustion. She ends up embroiled in those arguments to the detriment of all others. I didn’t hear the whole interview, but would’ve hoped that EB didn’t add to the misdirection. For sure she’ll be pressured though.

Floisme · 12/04/2022 11:04

I didn't hear the interview but I think asking difficult questions is part and parcel of a journalist's job. From what I have seen and heard of Emma Barnett, she does that in pretty much all of her interviews, regardless of her own opinions. In fact I'm not even sure what EB's own views on this issue are, which I think is admirable and all too rare in a BBC presenter. What she is also doing is giving women a voice.

HollowTalk · 12/04/2022 11:09

Oh my comment was read out!
