Do you boycott local shops that don't support biology?

Specifically selling period products for people who menstruate? Recommending mooncups for people who have given birth etc.
They've been called out on it and I'm really peeved as they were a great independent shop with lots of vegan items and items by weight, natural products for body, hair and home. Expensive but I supported them as they are local, friendly and ethical. Now their ethics don't align with mine. It seems like nothing is free of identify politics anymore.

I do boycott both local shops and online stores if I possibly can, and it is almost always feasible to do so as alternatives exist. But I don't take anyone to task for not being able to do so.

I just don't want to be erased by those who supposedly want my custom.

CervixSampler · 10/04/2022 17:15

Exactly. They are so concerned with not offending the tiny amount of trans and non binary women that they risk losing the custom of women.

I would do, yes. I haven't noticed any local shops do this though. I've boycotted Lush Angry for quite a while now.

Artichokeleaves · 10/04/2022 17:32

Yup.

Also now won't go into M&S without a hazmat suit.

Cailleach1 · 10/04/2022 17:35

I stopped buying 'Innocent' juices. I do most of the family food shopping. Won't darken the door of 'Lush', neither. They don't want my shilling, and I don't want to give it to them.

OhHolyJesus · 10/04/2022 17:36

Yes. I have no interest in supporting them, I vote with my purse elsewhere.

NormaSnorks · 10/04/2022 17:39

Yes.
And I tell shop assistants that I am unhappy about unisex changing rooms and it makes me not want to shop there.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/04/2022 17:41

I'm careful. Don't have the time to check out every place but those companies deliberately placing women at risk (M & S, Lush etc) no longer get my custom.

tabbycatstripy · 10/04/2022 17:43

Yes.

ZaraSizeMedium · 10/04/2022 17:43

Yes if I possibly can.

Not a local shop but there’s a local restaurant I’d boycott, but DH’s family love it and lots of family birthdays and events are booked by them for there.

I sticker the hell out of it while I’m there instead.

CervixSampler · 10/04/2022 17:45

This was my first out and out GC interaction on Facebook over this and it's so sad that it's women laying into me for stating biology. I didn't even mentions trans people and they were all over me with their rudeness. I'm autistic so I should have stopped myself as I'll be upset about this for ages now but the local shop can sod off with their exclusionary language.

Oooh I've been called a t**f!! And a nazi.

HandShoe · 10/04/2022 18:22

Yes. There’s plenty of choice out there so I avoid companies that decide to throw women under the bus. That includes Lush amongst others (saved a fortune) and a new cafe near me that I discovered after I had a full bladder only has mixed-sex toilets - communal sinks etc rather that just being somewhere too small to have more than one single toilet&sink arrangement.

Rights · 10/04/2022 20:38

Don’t worry @CervixSampler - many of them will soon be feeling like the idiots they are now that the tide finally seems to be turning. I think the majority of keyboard warriors are brainwashed teens looking for an outlet for their angst. In a few years’ time when they need to start working, paying bills, etc, most of them will grow out of it.

I started boycotting Lush when they started promoting breast binders to teenage girls… I also won’t buy period pants etc from companies who refuse to use the word “woman”.

Like @ZaraSizeMedium I’m also not averse to stickering…

Wear it like a badge of honour CS.👍
CervixSampler · 10/04/2022 21:58

You are making me feel so much better, thank you. I'm not adverse to stickering and ribboning. I'm very happy that my ribbons are still where I put them last summer at one of our holiday haunts.

I visited the m&s in Marbella last week just for research. I don’t buy in m&s U.K. because of the changing rooms fiasco. They have changing rooms for Senoras in Spain. What do they call the changing rooms in the U.K.?

ChristinaXYZ · 11/04/2022 23:01

We have a few local shops that might sell sanitary products. We have a long established health food shop that caters for people who want things that you cannot get at the usual supermarkets. We also have a ethical shop which translates as every political fad going - vegan, BDS, all kinds of identity politics. Everyone used the old health food shop regardless of their politics. This new shop is taking trade from the old one amongst younger people with its trendy shop front and trendy politics. I just hope the older one survives. I know the other one won't because the trends will move on.

I'll boycott any shop that pushes its politics on me or disregards women.

CervixSampler · 11/04/2022 23:17

What's BDS?

They label them women's and men's changing rooms but have a policy that anyone can use the changing rooms of the "gender" they feel comfortable with. So your granny might be stuff on in a curtained alcove adjacent to a bloke experiencing "euphoria" all over a pair of M&S knickers and the floor.

I'm a newly enraged 'real' women at this bullshit. I'm ashamed to say I don't know these stickers. Where can I get some?

I can see you not supporting it as it doesn't align with your ethics, but naming something for 'people who menstruate' - isn't that supporting biology? As it's trans men (aka bio females) who are included in that; it's not like they're marketing period products at trans women
NotTerfNorCis · 12/04/2022 08:36

naming something for 'people who menstruate'

Shouldn't people with this body type have a collective name though? I mean, the fact of being female is far more significant than something like eye colour, even if you don't want it to be.

DomesticatedZombie · 12/04/2022 08:41

I wouldn't say 'boycott ' but I don't spend money in places that are anti women.
