Brilliant article by Hadley Freeman. It's been quite a week:

Super happy this week! It’s like everyone who knew what utter bollocks it all is, is finally waking up and also finding a voice.. and when more their voice and it’s encouraging others to speak out as well. Brilliant

Etinoxaurus · 07/04/2022 15:48

It’s great isn’t it.
I’m 99% happy and relieved with a 1% fear that those in favour of more trans rights ~at women’s expense~ will feel angry and beleaguered.
But we didn’t make the fight so dirty.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 07/04/2022 15:54

It's fantastic and I'm glad to see confidence in speaking out growing. As much as some individuals want to shout 'transphobic', I think others are beginning to realise that word is being thrown about incorrectly and as such, loses its value.

Hoardasurass · 07/04/2022 15:59

That's good thanks for the link

IamSarah · 07/04/2022 16:04

It's brilliant and is giving me hope for my court case (challenging Rape Crisis for allowing men to self identify into women's rape crisis groups)

This week I have felt a definite shift that it's no longer considered a fringe issue.

I hope this filters through to the BBC - I've just heard their new Radio 5 film reviewers, one of whom hadn't even seen the film she was reviewing, slip in a dig at J. K. Rowling.

SingToTheSky · 07/04/2022 16:23

Brilliant.

theDudesmummy · 07/04/2022 16:30

Absolutely great, and love Hadley.

WinterTrees · 07/04/2022 16:42

Fabulous clear summary of the kind of week we could only have dreamed of back in the era when Angela Rayner was proudly tweeting about keeping a place on the HoC benches for Labour Women's Officer and predatory troll Madigan.

Reading that, it made me wonder if all of this headline news will have an effect on the judgement in Maya's tribunal. Hopefully a statement from the Prime Minister can only help to underline that her views about biological sex are hardly offensive extremism and she was quite bloody right that a fecking think tank needed to be able to discuss this subject. (Just in case the judge was in two minds.)

DameHelena · 07/04/2022 16:53

A good week.
I'd only say about this article that Kathleen Stock wasn't fired but resigned (I know her position was basically made untenable by the bullying and harassment, but, as Hadley F says, language matters).

MidsomerMurmurs · 07/04/2022 17:33

Good article. I’m really pleased that Hadley is able to get these articles published.

Clymene · 07/04/2022 18:23

I love Hadley's writing. That's a really excellent article. The Cass interim report has made a huge crack in the dam and Thomas and Bridges have widened it.

It can't hold much longer, especially now so many people are speaking up.

McDuffy · 07/04/2022 19:48

I had a rant to my Director earlier, I feel like the dam has broken and wanted to reinforce anything he might have seen in the news as we have a fair bit of influence in a relevant sector.
Puuuullllllll

tabbycatstripy · 07/04/2022 19:55

What a week. But they’ll redouble their efforts. I’m already seeing lots of ‘scared’ posts on Twitter from trans people who seem to think there’s going to be some violent backlash. That only helps groups like Stonewall and Mermaids, both in terms of donations and political activity (people writing to MPs etc).

I was going to see my MP but I politely told them I thought the decisions this week were right and that I wouldn’t use their time unless necessary. I think it’s really important to send thanks to the EHRC, Johnson, Truss etc., for their measured, fair comments/guidance, and to copy in your MP.

inheritancetrack · 07/04/2022 20:08

Bloody brilliant, at last!

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/04/2022 20:19

It has been a good week. I'm sure you're right tabbycatstripy that the extremists will redouble their efforts and we'll see lots of emotive claptrap designed to guilt trip people.
But hopefully all the publicity means that the usual aggression and bullying of women, individually and collectively, will be harder to brazen their way through.
The next feminist meeting with aggressive, misogynistic bullies outside will be harder to dismiss. The targeting of women for speaking (like the elite athletes reported to their sponsors) is less likely to be acted on by organisations with the press keeping a closer eye on their behaviour.
And as for the excessive number of sex offenders self identifying as women - eventually a journalist is going to crunch those numbers and publish them in the mainstream press.

seriousandloyal · 07/04/2022 20:23

A very good week, keep at it everyone x

BOOTS52 · 07/04/2022 20:23

There was actually an article on The Irish Journal last night with comments allowed but which was actually removed since. It was so great to see people allowed to speak out for once and not to be silenced on this important issue for women, women's safe spaces and sports. So much support for women from the male comments which was great but not shocked it was removed. There was an article last week from a trans-woman about trans-women in sport and of course no comments allowed and he/she was all for trans-women in sports. I am shocked that I did not even know about any of these issues until I read about it on here as it is all hush hush here in Ireland and violent males in women's prisons shocking here and a woman who was also sexually assaulted in a female only word by a trans-woman. Time that people speak out more in support of women but when they do that the trans-women get soo aggressive and nasty. Could not care what a person identifies as but do not think it women should be put at risk and do not agree with the legislation here that anyone can self change their identity so easy. Not the biggest fan of Boris but fair play he has spoken out for women and it gets the topic talked about.

BOOTS52 · 07/04/2022 20:25

Also there was a new woman selected on some Women's counsel in Ireland and guess what a trans-woman.. Why is everything being taken over by trans-women. Are they bullying their way into things. Hopefully now things will change a little for the good of women and our safety and safety for the young women.

AnyFucker · 07/04/2022 20:34

Excellent

AlisonDonut · 07/04/2022 20:37

I feel like a huge cyst has been lanced.

Artichokeleaves · 07/04/2022 20:46

I’m already seeing lots of ‘scared’ posts on Twitter from trans people who seem to think there’s going to be some violent backlash.

And everyone's seeing through the drama and getting tired of it.

Females have rights and needs too which are not automatically trumped by the needs of male people, and there should be facilities provided for all needs This is not a 'scary' thought in any rational terms. In fact to find that 'scary' is quite a strange and concerning reaction.

MangyInseam · 07/04/2022 20:49

Listening to Boris's statement actually made me feel a bit teary and emotional, which is not very usual for me at all, I don't often get emotional even about personal things. I don't think I realized the extent to which this issue is causing me stress. Not least because here in Canada we have a conversion therapy law which passed and means that for those of us dealing with kids struggling with gender and mh, things seem very dark indeed.

I think you've all really dodged a bullet there.

springtimeishereagain · 07/04/2022 21:18

Fabulous article.

MamaSaidTheredBeDaysLikeThis · 07/04/2022 22:52

Listening to Boris's statement actually made me feel a bit teary and emotional

Me too. I think setting aside politics and whether you believe him blah blah blah, just to see the prime minister give a calm, reasonable and fair statement on this got to me. No hyperbole, no waffle, no fence sitting, just a straight up clear answer. Now we can move forward.
