stonewall - what do they actually do?

Ive read that SW have had 7 million funding a year.

That's a LOT of money - what have they DONE with it?

Why do we have awful waiting lists for gender clinics, no trans only refuges, no research, no guidelines, no evidence based training for healthcare staff, no common sense?

It can't have cost that much to fund rainbow shoelaces.

The missed opportunity is so frustrating. Instead of eliding the protected characteristics of sex and gender reassignment, they could have lobbied for clear data capture so they could accurately appraise trans people’s needs, their relative risks of being victims of crime, how well their health needs are met etc. But, no, instead we have a train smash of garbled stats where useful information is hidden, that are of no use to anyone and positively harmful for society as a whole. They could have lobbied for additional gender neutral facilities, as disability rights campaigners did successfully. Their whole approach has been acquisitive, disrespectful of others’ needs and completely toxic. Their approach and overreach has hardened public perceptions about the trans cause and actively undermined wider acceptance. What a mess!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 06/04/2022 19:09

So, do we know where the money is? I'm assuming fancy offices and big salaries and mismanagement...rather than anything suspect.

7 million is a lot of cash. 7 million a YEAR?

Advising people on their interpretation of the law.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 06/04/2022 19:11

True, @AlisonDonut - so why did they need so much funding to do that? Plenty of consultants give out advice, sometimes even quite good and accurate advice. They don't need millions of pounds of central and lottery funding to do that.

It looks like they may be moving on from the trans grift? (Or perhaps just expanding their donor base?)

As a registered charity it means that they don't have any shareholders, so profits will be shared around the management team and their nice expenses accounts.

Interesting that they're looking at Asexual equality now. They need to keep the money rolling in.

Crcohetmonster · 06/04/2022 20:20

What rights do asexual people not have?

Artichokeleaves · 06/04/2022 20:26

Experiencing the head offices of any big charities, seeing the very big salaries, the expenditure and how time is occupied and how the unchanged continuity of big salaries, expenditure and comfortable lifestyle is diligently worked on, is usually a very.... eye opening experience. If a disillusioning one.

Basically, they are going to identify more and more different personality types and define them as groups so they can make cash advocating on their behalf. Next up, people who only want to have sex if they can wear their socks.

Cuck00soup · 06/04/2022 20:42

Keep the money rolling in.

GrownUpBeans · 06/04/2022 20:42

Allison Bailey's tribunal may provide some insight....

FemaleAndLearning · 06/04/2022 20:46

Oh Mangy people who have a preference for keeping their socks on firing sex!
Stonewall are so so quiet. They have had to drop i for intersex, they have messed up with trans so now they are going for the multitude of My Little Pony identities.

donquixotedelamancha · 06/04/2022 21:17

I reckon they must have spent at least £500,000 harassing Alison Bailey. There is no way her chambers would drag it on so much if they weren't being bankrolled. I doubt she's the only one- most people wouldn't even know SW were behind it.

Their main business is 'training' and while it's hugely profitable, it does have operational costs.

A lot of their money and most of their influence comes from schmoozing the wealthy and important- those Saudi hotels and champagne breakfasts don't pay for themselves.

Then (as a PP said) their actual head office staff cost well over £1,000,000.

What, were you thinking they'd use some of that money to benefit gay people? It's not 2014 anymore you know.

LilithRises · 06/04/2022 21:20

all i know is that they sold out on my sexuality and thought it was clever redefining homosexuality to same gender attracted. they do not speak for me. so when you hear press coverage of the LGBT++++ community outraged and in uproar - remember the "community" is not homogeneous and I do not ascribe to group think.

Tiphaine · 06/04/2022 21:58

They talk a lot about the T, but about the LGB much less. users.ox.ac.uk/~sfos0060/LGBT_figures.shtml

@AlisonDonut

Advising people on their interpretation of the law.
Yes wilfully giving incorrect advice.
CatNamedEaster · 06/04/2022 22:46

Fucking hell. How much more naval gazing can we invent? Am I ace or am I just a peri-menopausal mum with a child, a full time job, a house that needs full renovation, elderly relatives and a bill from British Gas that has more zeros on it than a National Lottery cheque? Which is the real reason I have no sexual attraction to anyone on the planet?

It feels so off and just tasteless when we have actual issues like climate change, poverty, disability discrimination getting worse and wars going on. To have someone talking about how important it is to address asexuality. Who gives a shit? Be attracted to people or don't be but no need to give yourself a label and then feel trapped when you change your mind in 5 years.

CatNamedEaster · 06/04/2022 22:49

Sorry, derailed a bit there. Agree with pp that it's so sad when you think of the robust research and campaigning that their income could have been spent on, to effect real change for people who need it.

Etinoxaurus · 06/04/2022 22:59

It’s the most brilliant business medal ever.
A state funded protection racket.

Tiphaine · 06/04/2022 23:23

They're helping publicise a protest against the banning of LGB conversion therapy at the moment Confused like any sane gay rights charity would.

Rhannion · 06/04/2022 23:43

I wonder how many leather dugs and nappy wearing weirdos will turn up for that demo on Saturday?

FemaleAndLearning · 06/04/2022 23:44

"No ban without trans". Bless.

PenStation · 06/04/2022 23:48

Has anyone ever put in a complaint to the charity commission about Stonewall as they are currently? They are a massive disappointment. Loved them when I was young.

I’ve been wondering this. They were domnated money for very specific purposes, to lobby for gay equality. They’ve used the money to pay themselves lovely salaries while campaigning against women’s rights and spending a fortune on lawyers fees to harass those weaker than them.

Doesn’t seem much of a charity to me 🤷‍♀️
