Are there transmen trying to enter male sports?

There's obviously a lot in the news about male athletes who have transitioned then going to compete against women - absolutely wrong in my view.

Are there also women who have transitioned looking to compete in men's competitions? Or is this not being done because they would lose dramatically?

I wonder if this was happening and men's sport was being impacted if there would be more traction around stopping it or proper guidelines being made as it's "a man's world" out there in many ways...

Male to female transition would be transmen, not transwomen.

Mama427 · 31/03/2022 13:34

**title should be trans men...

Sorry, meant female to male is transmen!!

Beamur · 31/03/2022 13:37

Women who transition are Transmen.
Men who transition are Transwomen.
Your title doesn't make sense. Transwomen (like Emily Bridges - in the news a lot today) is male and has been competing for years in male events.
I think you mean are Transmen (i.e people who are female born) competing in male events.

mudgetastic · 31/03/2022 13:37

Never heard of this
Probably because they will be at a disadvantage compared to males

More pertinent is that fact that whereas a transwomen could legally compete in the male class , a transman taking testosterone will be barred from the female class as well

DrDetriment · 31/03/2022 13:37

Do you mean transmen? Women entering male sports is not an issue because women identifying as trans men are simply not competative. A trans 'man' recently came second to Lia Thomson in the swimming in the women's competition. She has decided not to have treatment yet so she can still compete in women's sport because she knows she'll be annihilated in the men's competition.

mudgetastic · 31/03/2022 13:37

Suggest you at MNHQ to change the title if you want answers

RoseslnTheHospital · 31/03/2022 13:38

As per the PP you mean transmen.

There have been a small number that have made headlines, usually in the US. As you have rightly identified, it isn't a problem generally for male sports because they are not competitive and aren't taking medals, qualification spots, funding, etc etc away from men. Or they continue to compete on women's teams, if they are not taking testosterone or other treatments that would mean an unfair advantage against other female athletes.

tabbycatstripy · 31/03/2022 13:39

It wouldn’t make a difference to male achievement if they did. It would just be males competing against someone at a disadvantage.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 31/03/2022 13:42

There are transmen choosing not to take hormones to remain eligible in women's sports. (Including racing in the same races as Lia Thomas...)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mack_Beggs

Mack Beggs is a well known one. Otherwise they don't really get a mention.

Some NB females in sport but they are playing the correct sex category.

There's only one I've ever heard of.
They've never won anything, apart from the position of competing in the first place and some vanity awards for being trans, and couldn't compete in 2020 due to injury.

Mack Beggs is still only 22 and yet doesn't appear to have completed since 2018.

So I'm guessing it's too dangerous to wrestle against men and the testosterone would be doping against women. So excluded

Linguini · 31/03/2022 13:53

Mack Beggs competes with women.
Chris Mosier competed with men.

Wikipedia lists these transmen in sport
Trans men
Kye Allums, basketball
Schuyler Bailar, swimming
Mack Beggs,[91] wrestling
Harrison Browne, ice hockey
Balian Buschbaum,[92] pole vault
Willy De Bruyn, cycling
Keelin Godsey, hammer throw[93]
Zdeněk Koubek, track
Andreas Krieger, shot put
Patricio Manuel, boxing
Chris Mosier, triathlon and duathlon

When you follow the link you find the vast majority of these transmen complete with women.

NancyDrawed · 31/03/2022 14:16

I doubt a transmen would be included on a men's team because as everyone knows (but some pretend not to) women are at a disadvantage in the vast majority of sports because of their biology and physiology. They would not get selected because it would weaken the team

(And yes I know that there are always outliers and some women are taller and stronger than some men, but generally speaking. And lets not forget heart and lung relative size, muscle density, skeletal differences etc)

334bu · 31/03/2022 16:33

Isaac Henig US college swimmer competes with women.

PermanentTemporary · 31/03/2022 22:00

What Linguini said.

I did a list a couple of years ago, because I wanted to know whether I was being unreasonable, and because I kept getting told on Twitter that there were lots and lots of transmen doing well in male sport. As you'd expect, it's largely smoke and mirrors. My notes:

Keelin Godsey - women's team
Andreas Krieger - women's events, coercively doped
Kye Allums - women's team
Harrison Browne - womens team
Bailin Buschbaum - women's events
Zdenek Koubek - women's events
Willy de Bruijn - women's events
Schuyler Bailar - one season in men's college swimming team - was elite woman swimmer.
Eli Baynes - men's rugby- St Louis Crusaders is not a high level team

Zach Brookes - regional finalist in men's national champs for athletes with learning disabilities.
Mark Weston - women's events, may have had a VSD
Eric Schinegger - women's events, likely had a VSD

Patricio Manuel - super featherweight boxer. Won one fight as a man.

Jay Pulitano swimming, Sarah Lawrence college men's team. On testosterone.

PermanentTemporary · 31/03/2022 22:02

The evidence I have read suggests Mack Beggs completed a single exhibition tournament as a man.

DaughterofDawn · 31/03/2022 22:14

So essentially even if they are on testosterone they cannot reliably compete with men because their physique prevents them from doing so. So essentially biology matters.

ChopinBoard · 31/03/2022 22:18

These discussions would be much easier if we just used called people what they are: men are men and women are women. We do ourselves a disservice and obscure our own arguments when we use the language of gender identity ideology

ChuckBerrysBoots · 31/03/2022 22:28

I saw a post on Facebook recently of a transboy (think they are around 12?) winning a boys gymnastics competition - vault I think. Flexibility and balance were two of the few areas where the brief bit of reading I’d done suggested girls outperform boys. So it could be said to be a rare case of boys being disadvantaged by a transboy competing against them.

Helleofabore · 31/03/2022 23:25

I think we have had quite a few parents on these threads who have anecdotally said their daughters were competitive at different sports with boys until 13/14. After that, there was no chance of girls winning like they used too. Even if they all trained together so with similar skills / same amount of training etc.

I would suggest vault would be similar.

334bu · 01/04/2022 00:34

Girls showing how easy (NOT) it is to do men's gymnastics.

334bu · 01/04/2022 00:37

Men doing female gymnastics astound female olympians.

ChuckBerrysBoots · 01/04/2022 00:47

I did try to have a look to see whether girls and boys competitive gymnastics mirrors the women’s and men’s in terms of apparatus but couldn’t see anything. Certainly when the transboy begins competing against pre-pubescent males they won’t stand a chance in terms of physicality and power.
