Apologies if this has been shared already. I haven’t watched Fox or Tucker Carlson before - I know they are biased obviously - but he did seem to grasp the wider problem of the ideology in terms of making people lie and affecting how you think being dangerous etc.

@NotBadConsidering

Honestly it’s such a trite pathetic point that gets made all the time whenever the right wing media, particularly American, is involved in this debate.

“Oh no! Can’t possibly associate with those nasty people [holds nose]”

What this actually is is your own intolerance. You can’t possibly accept the idea that you might agree with people who are ideologically different to you and as such decide to avoid at all costs. The reason this issue is agreed upon across the political spectrum is precisely why you should be proud to be in agreement. It is precisely what you should tell your daughter: that this is position of truth, logic and science. People from all sides - including most of the Left it needs to be said - agree with Tucker Carlson and his ilk because it’s the bloody truth! Men cannot be women, Lia Thomas should not be swimming against women, you can’t change sex, Yaniv is a predator, the Loudoun rape and Wi Spa cases actually happened. It’s truth!

You tell your daughter that you’re not “aligning” with any political side, it’s just that sensible, logical, not-in-the-cult people of all political persuasions can see through the bullshit. Tell your daughter that bullshit detectors aren’t political.

I am not, and nor is Posie, and nor is anyone else on this thread “aligning” themselves with Tucker Carlson. What is actually happening is lots of different people are aligning themselves with the idea that the whole ideology is nonsense. They are not “on our side”; we are not taking sides, it’s just we all end up on the same side because it’s the only place to end up if you’re not a fucking idiot.

I sometimes wonder, if people who can’t abide the American Right so much, wouldn’t be happier if they were totally capitulated TWAW to make it easier to cope with their mental discomfort.

And no one is accepting this agreement “at all costs”; I am perfectly capable of saying “we agree on this, but not that, and that idea I distinctly oppose.” It’s not hard. It’s called being a grown up. Agreement does not imply blanket approval of all of that person’s positions. Despite this, however, blanket approval is often inferred by observers if anyone shows signs of agreement: “you agree with Tucker Carlson on this? You must also want to overthrow the US government and are racist towards black women who want to be on the Supreme Court.” It’s so utterly childish and the main way debate is silenced.

The majority of the conservative American right are not monsters, you know. They’re just normal people with different views who know a man in the pool with women when they see one, and know a boy raping a girl in school toilets shouldn’t be covered up for the sake of identity.

The single biggest step I took personally was to stop worrying about whether people think I am a bigot. It’s such a weight off your shoulders when you stop giving a fuck about whether you’re on the “right” side, or socially acceptable side, and just be comfortable you’re on the side of truth, which wears many political colours. Just watch the clip FFS. No one will know, you won’t turn into a raving crackpot Trumpian racist, the world won’t explode Hmm. And if you somehow (whisper it quietly) agree with Posie or aren’t horrified by Carlson, be comforted in the fact that you’re still you and watching one video isn’t going to change you.

Yes, thank you.

You know, why just not watch an interview if it's a good one?

The interview that TC did with Glen Loury was really good. I don't know if TC is a deep down racist, but you know, just like calling people a transphobe, that accusation is not one I take at face value any more. I think Loury is completely right about the warning he is giving about the very serious danger that current anti-racism approaches are likely to totally backfire and make things much worse for black Americans.

There is a point where you have this group of very purist people throwing around these slurs, and they completely lose their meaning, and you start to need to take people just as they come. You agree with this, but not with that, and you don't make too many assumptions about their underlying motives.

I don't watch much Fox because I avoid television news in general, but some of it is fine. The same with The Daily Mail, they have done some journalism work that is high quality, right along side some that is pretty poor. And yes, the same with The Guardian, and the BBC. Once you see them massaging the narrative and obscuring reality on purpose it's very difficult to see a difference between what they do and what Fox does.

GlomOfNit · 29/03/2022 13:37

@Pallisers

Tucker Carlson is a racist piece of shit and his - and the republicans - jumping on the bandwagon of gender criticism has absolutely nothing to do with respect for women or concern about women's rights. They hate women. The question asked of Judge Brown Jackson was a complete "gotcha" question that had nothing to do with her fitness for the position. The senate hearing was obscenely racist. And nothing could persuade me to click on a Fox News link - nothing Tucker Carlson says is worth a watch. He is an offence to humanity and no friend of women.
Yep. I personally think 'Posie Parker' now functions as a bit of a useful idiot - I cringe massively every time I see her airing on GB News/Fox/etc. We can do better than this!!
OvaHere · 29/03/2022 13:55

I don't really see how there can be such a thing as 'bedfellows' or 'aligning with' when it comes to matters of material reality and objective truth.

If Tucker Carlson said gravity exists, water is wet and the earth is round I'd be in agreement with him.

Something as fundamental as the existence of sex in human people transcends partisan politics and I don't have to like all the other people in the world who recognise it either.

NonnyMouse1337 · 29/03/2022 15:40

We can do better than this!!

Go on then.

Get those bastions of truth and objectivity like the Guardian to platform yourself and others without censorship so that the pure of heart and mind who would who never sully their spotlessly clean souls with the manifestation of pure evil (GB news, Fox etc) unlike the unwashed filth, can hear your message.

Let us know when you've made any progress.

LaingsAcidTab · 29/03/2022 15:55

@MalagaNights

If you were against vaccine mandates: vaccine denier.

If you thought Trump made a good point on anything: Trump supporter.

If you didn't agree Jan 6th was a pearl harbor level disaster: insurrection apologist.

If you have any concerns about the BLM movement: racist frother.

If you don't think trans women are women: transphobic piece of shit.

It's all the same. Lack of nuance, easy dismissive slurs, good/bad thinking.

If you engage in any of the simplistic side taking above, you can't complain when it gets aimed at you.

This is one of the clearest, most to-the-point posts I've read about the perpetuation of an entire structure underlying multiple ideologies.
Datun · 29/03/2022 18:19

The point is, almost every single person on the planet is going to end up agreeing with us.

Because it's mad.

FFS. When you are up and running and making as many people across the world aware of what is happening, do let us know and we might tune in to you.

To diminish Kellie Jay as a ‘useful idiot’ says everything really. To diminish a woman who had captured the attention of millions of people at this point as being a useful idiot… yeah crack on.

I will support women out there discussing this in any media. Because I know that they are putting it on the line when I am not prepared to.

FemaleAndLearning · 29/03/2022 22:01

Since Posie's trip to America she says sales and membership have increased massively. That means more women on the ground talking to other women and spreading the word. That can only be a good thing. We have so few spaces to talk openly that in the end change will come from the grassroot and all those wonderful women supporters meeting, talking and acting.
I recently made a new local friend in real life at one of Posie's regional Speakers Corner. We have lots planned to keep yo the good fight.

Useful? Abso bloody lutely.

Idiot??

Hahahahahaha.

Appalonia · 30/03/2022 23:50

As a lifelong leftie, it's been really uncomfortable to see people and publications that I had hugely admired, and gone along with unquestionally, subscribe wholeheartedly with this regressive nonesense. Tucker Carlson, The Daily Mail, The Spectator, Piers Morgan, The Times and The Telegraph have spoken more sense than any left wing commentator. So where does that leave us?

Last year, I was in a Zoom meeting after the murder of Sarah Everard, hosted by my MP, Zarah Sultana. I got told to shut up, called a TERF and got kicked out of the meeting for using the phrase, "sex based violence". Am I now supposed to vote for this woman just because she is a Labour MP? HELL NO! Don't respect my sex, don't expect my X.

This issue transcends any party politics, because it's about REALITY!

Agreed. And I've just watched the clip, and whether Tucker Carlson is a nice man or (probably) not, he conducted a respectful interview in which KJK was able to make her points.

I'm contrasting it with the sneering, interrupting and contradicting from James O'Brien and various other right-on twats in UK media.

🤣 yay. A day when both J. K. Rowling and Posie Parker reveal how they appear to have run out of anything resembling any kind of fuck, whatsoever.

Love it.

It seems some people don’t have a sarcasm meter. Mine was going off like a siren at that.

but if your intention is to paint Kellie Jay as some having some
kind of affiliation with nazis or the far right … yawn. That is such tired trope. Try something new for once.

TheBiologyStupid · 25/04/2022 21:23

Posie's decision to appear on Fox News is clearly divisive. However, before condemning it, it's worth bearing in mind what Helen Joyce (Trans, Chapter 12, "Through the Looking Glass") writes about Natasha Chart, former chair of the Women’s Liberation Front (WoLF) [bolding mine]:

"In 2015, Chart had been sacked from her job with a reproductive-rights campaign group for writing about her opposition to legalised prostitution and gender self-ID. None of the allies from her long history of feminist and environmental activism supported her; instead they ‘unfriended me, denounced me, described me as a physical threat to trans people, said I was genocidal’. Then, as one left-wing group after another adopted the self-ID cause, she watched those former allies campaign for male rapists and murderers to be allowed to transfer to women’s prisons on demand. ‘I did not come to politics to work with people who gave this little of a fuck about women prisoners, who everybody knows have overwhelmingly been victims of child-abuse, domestic violence and commercial sex exploitation,’ she says. ‘These women have no political representation, cannot vote, cannot talk to the press. And the people who should be speaking up for them have abandoned them. If my two options are talk to the [conservative Alliance Defending Freedom] ADF, or talk to somebody on the Left who calls me a fascist KKK bleep bleep bleep and hopes I die in a fire, is it even a choice?’ "

It is not a pathetic point. One side approved tearing thousands of children from their parents as a deterrent measure. The traumatised children were housed in overpopulated unsanitary buildings without adequate food, healthcare and beds much less the kind of care and support children, especially young children need. Some things are worth judging, and everyone who supported or contributed to the ICE protocols SHOULD be judged. The families of many of those children have never been found again. My heart still hurts just thinking about it.

Posie is getting the message out that

men cannot become women

we all know what a woman is

men shouldn't be in women's spaces, sports or statistics

on ANY platform she can get on that will reach as many people as possible.

I think she's doing a great job.

Hopefully the mainstream channels will get her on soon.

Posie is the business, isn't she? More power to her elbow! Her unfailing honesty shows up all those liars disingenuous people (and apparatchiks in places of power) who pretend they don't know a woman is an adult female of the human variety.

I'd have stronger words for the ones who are pushing legislation to allow and enable the locking up of rapists with women, and are pushing cheating by males in female sports. Also, those involved in any way with the sexualisation (and medical intervention) of children by a variety of 'interested' adults. They know a man is not a woman, but are taking the currently politically 'useful', dissembling lines.

You mean if a person or group gets one thing wrong, they should be repudiated altogether? And even the media sources associated with the larger group of people who may or may not all individually agree on each and every policy point?

If that's your approach you are going to have to give up every "side" out there.

One thing? That’s not one thing.
its not the entire republican establishment and every one red ever, there were voices in opposition and no I wouldn’t tar them all with the same brush. But it’s important to highlight that not everything is an equivalent political point to just get over and move past and this is not trite and pathetic, it’s fundamental. Some things are unforgivable. If my work hired a new senior manager for my team who had been senior in that process I’d quit on the spot, I think that’s the least I can do as a human being.

I regularly agree with and am friends with people who are ideologically in disagreement with me. The key similarity I find that overrides our politics is that we are all human beings. That attitude was not present in some major decisions made by the republican govt. I can work with people who made tough border decisions, I can work with people
who voted for brexit, I can’t work with people who thought taking children and babies was a great deterrent and then didn’t even bother to look after those children they had stolen. That’s on a par with Russia bombing a maternity hospital.
