Doing so because it's a sensitive matter and they want to be inclusive and respectful to all paths of life. Is this normal now? It suggests that being/having a mother has negative connotations. I'm so terribly sad about it. How can they try to erase Mothers? I've emailed back to ask for an explanation. I am very open to people who don't want to use the terms mother or father, that's their call, I'll respect that, it's their family but by eroding or smearing the sentiment of 'mother' ... It really bothers me.

I said this on the other thread, my MIL died last March, this year the anniversary will be a few days before Mother's Day. It is not hard to understand why someone in a similar position may not want to be opening emails at the time, especially as lots are likely to come on the actual anniversary.

@SeaKingdom Given that at 95% of people on this thread and on the M&S thread about the same thing are singing praises of the sensitivity being shown and over the moon about these emails, I have wonder why any business or organization sends out any such email in the first place!

When steel-eyed, no nonsense feminists fed up to their wazoo with gender woo but still up for the fight are triggered by seeing an email about a holiday that is advertised everywhere and inescapable then it seems that it is fair to assume that the vast majority of women are likewise triggered and profoundly saddened by such emails. In fact why should such a day even exist especially since even happy living vibrant mothers will alas at one point be no more?

I think it's good people are offered the choice, if you are NC with your parents or are recently bereaved, mother's day marketing is the last thing you want.
