Do you have a share token - can't open. Looks interesting Smile

Magenta82 · 25/02/2022 08:46

It looks really interesting but there is a pay wall

aliasundercover · 25/02/2022 10:41

This seems to be the same article and has no pay wall:

americanfaith.com/when-asked-what-are-your-pronouns-dont-answer-wsj/

LittleWhingingWoman · 25/02/2022 10:41

Hmmm not sure how I was able to read it as I don't have an account! I'll have an investigate.

Actually I think you can listen to the article too - there is a little click arrow.

The effort to resist gender ideology is reality’s last stand. We simply can’t ignore fundamental realities of our biology and expect positive outcomes for society. Pronoun rituals are extremely effective at normalizing and institutionalizing the abolition of biological sex in favor of gender identity. These rituals take advantage of people’s confusion and compassion to achieve compliance. But the time for politeness has long passed.

I’ve been asked this recently. I said ‘I and me’ and stared. It was a blue haired friend of DDs though, not a professional in a work setting.

MistyFuckingQuigley · 25/02/2022 12:04

If I was asked I'd just say Fuck and Off. With slightly raised eyebrow.

HelloCrocus · 25/02/2022 12:07

This made me laugh out loud... What a nerve! I found it awkward enough growing up to address my friends' parents at all. Maybe it would have been more useful to ask them whether I should call them "Julie" or "Mrs Higginbotham", get them to wear a badge with it.
JellySaurus · 25/02/2022 12:25

Curious that this article omits the issue, so dear to Americans, of freedom of speech and conscience.

Could requiring pronouns even be unconstitutional?

From Wikipedia:
The first amendment to the US Constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." The two parts, known as the "establishment clause" and the "free exercise clause"...Three central concepts were derived from the 1st Amendment which became America's doctrine for church-state separation: no coercion in religious matters, no expectation to support a religion against one's will, and religious liberty encompasses all religions. In sum, citizens are free to embrace or reject a faith, and support for religion - financial or physical - must be voluntary, and all religions are equal in the eyes of the law with no special preference or favoritism.

BootsAndRoots · 25/02/2022 14:06

If someone asks for your pronouns just say that you are offended that it appears that the questioner can't work out what sex you are.

Masdintle · 25/02/2022 14:10

I'm tempted to ask "why on earth would you be planning to talk about me behind my back? We've only just met"

Soontobe60 · 25/02/2022 14:15

Outstanding article!

Coercing people into publicly stating their pronouns in the name of “inclusion” is a Trojan horse that empowers gender ideology and expands its reach. It is the thin end of the gender activists’ wedge designed to normalize their worldview. Participating in pronoun rituals makes you complicit in gender ideology’s regressive belief system, thereby legitimizing it. Far from an innocuous act signaling support for inclusion, it serves as an implicit endorsement of gender ideology and all of its radical tenets

Fantastic.

Also enjoying the comments.

WSJ - left leaning? Widely read?

Wow, great piece. My fave line:

The effort to resist gender ideology is reality’s last stand.

Here, here.

We need the video of the woman getting slapped by her cat, after she announces her pronouns. That cat was all of us!

mirax · 26/02/2022 10:53

What is a share token please? My sub to the WSJ has ceased but if you use the mozilla firefox browser, you can use an addon that bypasses many paywalls. I dont feel too guilty about using this as there are only so many news subs I can afford and with substacks of canceled people to support too, it is too much.

I can do a cut/paste of the article but this site may not like it.

mirax · 26/02/2022 10:59

@DomesticatedZombie

WSJ - left leaning? Widely read?
The WSJ has had a battle raging between its news and comment/oped sections the last few years. The news people are younger and more 'progressive' while the comment section is older and much more conservative. The forum or readership follows the comment section and takes a centre right direction.
Datun · 26/02/2022 11:27

That article nails it.

It is all about the stereotypes. And yes, the horror of deciding that you need to change your body to fit them.

@mirax @DomesticatedZombie I thought it was centrist in my student days when I lived there but I’d say it’s clearly right leaning now. Cancelling my subscription is on my to do list. Their Mother’s Day article/opinion last year explained that if you felt ‘mum guilt’ for going back to work that was because you should, your subconscious knows you should be home with young children bringing them up. A business newspaper, telling mums on Mother’s Day to get back into the kitchen and home.
