Speechless.

Thank you very much for that.

It is beyond belief that this thoughtless, stupid ‘queering’ of young children’s understanding is being pushed by libraries and validated by parents.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/02/2022 09:09

Thank you. This should be mandatory viewing.

ScrollingLeaves · 18/02/2022 09:57

I wonder why parents are taking their children? I’d be interested to know what sort of response there might be on AIBU to think this agenda has no place for Children’s story time.

Datun · 18/02/2022 10:13

That's very informative. And I'm glad it's been done. It can now be shown to anyone who thinks that concerned people are pearl clutching haterz.

At the end, she points out that the prevailing narrative is to paint men who want access to children as being invited by inclusive and kind people, who have run the gauntlet of hate and bigotry to get them there.

That it's discriminatory not to allow sexualised adult miles get into close contact with little kids.

Women are routinely accused of hate for upholding safeguarding.

Fortunately, for many women, not only is it water off a ducks back, it's actually a red flag in itself.

Which is why places where women talk unsupervised, are targeted.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/02/2022 10:48

Fascinating. I wonder if the monitors will be all over this one.

ScrollingLeaves · 18/02/2022 10:53

Sadly, I have just seen that an otherwise lovely place dedicated to children’s books, illustrations, and story telling which is on my area is now offering and promoting this.

As she says in the video, what has a transvestite to do with the story?
And if it really were to do with diversity and inclusion, all sorts of other diverse minorities might be brought in to read stories.

EvilKinevil · 18/02/2022 11:31

I just looked at my local library and it’s the same. I wonder if they realise that drag queens are performers. They don’t actually identify as women. Safeguarding aside! Our local storytimes are labelled thus:

“ Drag Queen Story Time is where fairy tales come to life. Presented by real Queens. These events will capture the imagination and fun of the gender fluidity of childhood. By providing spaces in which kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions, DQST allows children to imagine the world in which people can present as they wish. Where dress up is real. With songs and storytime there's fun to be had for all ages. It's a standard storytime, with a bit of extra glitter.”

I wonder what a child understands by the word “queen”. It won’t be this. And drag queens do the absolute opposite of defying rigid gender restrictions.

ScrollingLeaves · 18/02/2022 11:56

Yes, and of all the wonderful things someone could dress up as, why a sexualised, male, clown version of a woman?

Abhannmor · 18/02/2022 19:14

Would a library host a Story Time with a scantily clad female stripper or lap dancer reading to young children? No way.

ScrollingLeaves · 19/02/2022 11:12

I wonder if these story times will continue to grow in popularity?

There is a Drag Queen Story Time U.K. You Tube video I just saw (presumably to advertise their franchise). In this, one man in drag excitedly introduces another, who will be reading the book, as being a well-known Drag Queen from BBC 3’s RuPaul’s Drag Race.

The excited way he announces the RuPaul Drag Queen reader, suggests he is popular and famous among all children and they will be thrilled and happy to have him read the book.

The surprising thing is that RuPaul’s Drag Race is a BBC 9 o’clock one intended for adults, so can I can only guess that plenty of children are being allowed to watch it.

SunniDelite · 19/02/2022 11:59

I just googled it in relation to our local libraries- they seem to be happening all over South London... Absolutely hate it but don't have young kids, so I don't feel able to object :(

ScrollingLeaves · 19/02/2022 12:29

And parents are taking children along quite happily so presumably many think they are great.

Datun · 19/02/2022 12:51

It is drag, or is it a cross dressing fetish?

If it's drag why would they be wearing it to work? Its a performance isn't it?

And if it's a cross dressing fetish, then yes, they are involving unconsenting people.

Can women wear fetish gear to work now? Or performance outfits?

Can we all show up at the office as clowns or in nurses outfits?

Questions, questions.

Datun · 19/02/2022 13:12

Oh, this is the wrong thread!

I don't have young kids either, but I feel perfectly able to object!

Public libraries belong to all of us because they are generally funded from public sources, i.e. our taxes.

That these wonderful institutions - which were set up to serve the wider public interest and stimulate cultural and intellectual understanding through the provision of free services - are being abused in this way is beyond vile.

Cuck00soup · 19/02/2022 16:31

Does anyone know if the revised government guidance to schools about remaining apolitical has any relevance to libraries?

Surely, this is pushing politics?

ScrollingLeaves · 19/02/2022 16:47

“Cuck00soup

They see it as creating acceptance of diversity in general while children are young specifically LGBTQ+

Cuck00soup · 19/02/2022 17:13

I think I'd argue that DQST is way beyond awareness, but I agree that would most probably be their deference.

Lets not pretend that it isn't political though.

BootsAndRoots · 19/02/2022 17:31

I've always seen it as hard-up drag queens have found a way to make money during the day. Whenever you see videos of them, they're not very good (perhaps they struggle to get much of an audience at their nighttime shows?). They just strike me as second rate and desperate to get an audience.

Another thing that seemed to come from America, quickly politicised itself and now holding the events seems to be more about the politics and virtue signalling than the actual event itself.

Something like this would've just died out naturally because it wasn't a good idea, but it's existence is now too political and that's what sustains the event.

SunniDelite · 19/02/2022 17:48

Well, council election are coming up. "What is you opinion of Drag Queen Story time" might be a good question to ask canvassers (although we only seem to get LibDems at the door)...

Has anybody interviewed the children involved in all this, to find out whether or not they actually have been traumatised by it or not?

I can't help feeling that said children won't care and will have forgotten about it. They'll have just thought 'Right, this is weird .... Never mind, I'm not being tested on it, so who cares?'

The vast majority of kids will just think it's one of those odd things that adults deem to be important, but they, the kids, think is just pointless rubbish. (Just like I thought, about every Bible lesson, throughout my school years.)

A few kids, who are troubled about their gender-identity, might be helped in some way.

Who knows? Me, my opinion is: just keep your feverish pro-transgender, or pro GC, stupidity and nuttiness out of the classroom. The very best you'll ever get from the schoolkids is that your dogma (whether it be pro trans, or pro GC) just makes you look like an idiot - just like the fanatical Christian garbage did, fifty years ago.

And I don't think we want children to think we adults are any more idiotic than we already appear.

Typo- Al the adults shouldn’t trust our own judgement? We should let children decide what adults have access to them?

I’ve never heard such foolishness. You’re a danger to children if you have this mindset.

Adults have duty of care. No adult should be willing to risk harm coming to a child.

This “maybe not” “maybe it’s harmless” attitude is dangerous to children
