The Green Party is captured, where now?

StandingWithEmma · 12/02/2022 13:52

New username, because of the stalking happening.

The Green Party is dead. Ali, Bateman, all being illegally harassed, and now they want to expel anyone that signs petitions supporting women's rights.

I've resigned today, I'd joined to vote for the leader but everything has gone wrong since then.

Should we join Labour, to support Rosie Duffield? Or is that a mountain we can't climb?

There's the SDP, too. They are small, but that be a good thing. There's local elections coming up, the more of us that could stand as candidates and use it as a platform to tell everyone where we live, the better?

The only other thing I can think of is that we start our own new party that focuses entirely on feminism. Like the Womens Equality Party was supposed to.

I think Labour are lost.

Lockedoorsopen · 12/02/2022 14:11

I know its beyond galling but Conservative for women are very active in openly discussing womens rights and what we need.

Womens rights are a hill I am willing to die on and unless one of the other parties do a you turn I will be voting for the Tories in May.

Social democrats

FPTP means getting new parties going is incredibly difficult. A new party would be a waste of time and resources, I can't see it happening. Look at all the effort put into WEP.

The Soc Dems are too small to make a difference I think.

Either focus on other non political aspects of campaigning for GC stuff or if you like a fight the best option is still battling within left parties.

The situation inside the Greens will not be clear till after spring conference there is a bunch of GC motions to vote up and misogynistic motions to vote down. That is why they are attacking Emma and Ali they can see how powerful GC people are getting.

"Spring Conference is 4 - 6 March, entirely online and there are important motions to support - Disaffiliation from Stonewall; Ensuring Sex & Gender are Not Conflated. And to oppose - Queerphobia. Cost is £45; £25 low-waged; £10 unwaged. So do attend if you can! And would be great to see you all at Green Party Women events and EGM."

More details:

mailchi.mp/398918b1dbec/what-next-after-election-success

If there is enough GC people at conference [it is digital] they can win this. Even if they lose it is way way better to be expelled than resign. Why because the publicity will be awful. It way way is better that a few thousand GC members all get expelled at once while the Green party bursts into flames behind them as they go.

As for Labour. It is tougher than the Greens, but there are definite possibilities, especially now Blair has come out as basically on side. There are still thousands of Labour dinosaurs and witches in the party. Basically it is stalemate as Starmer doesn't want to alienate either side. More people needed for sure. That way we can hope to move forward within the party. We need better organisation.

WarriorN · 12/02/2022 17:57

This witch is not submitting.

They're being exceptionally threatening and quite frankly I feel they're partially doxxing women who've signed the declaration.

Yes there is a lot going . We need people to vote motions up. I've supported one already.

The greens aren't captured yet.

Jeyesfluid · 12/02/2022 18:06

It's generally easier to take over an existing party than to form a new one. It's what's happened with the greens and with labour. I wouldn't leave though if I was a member, I'd vote for change when I could. Make things as hard as possible for them.

WarriorN · 12/02/2022 18:24

Fancy joining Jeyes?

Goatsaregreat · 12/02/2022 18:26

Kudos to all the women continuing to fight these vile misogynists in the centre of all our political parties. Flowers

EishetChayil · 12/02/2022 18:48

The Communist Party hasn't been captured. I'm not a member but my husband is.

Jeyesfluid · 12/02/2022 18:51

Green party? I already joined last year so that I could vote. I have thought about leaving, but it's probably of more value to stay, for now at least.
WarriorN · 12/02/2022 20:10

Ah sorry crap eyes didn't read all your post! Awesome

DomesticatedZombie · 12/02/2022 20:24

I'm going nowhere. Emma won the vote for co chair by a thumping majority. The motion to expel women for wrongthink is so obviously egregious it's already been struck out as 'out of order'. The green party needs sensible women who care about environmental issues. We can do this.

CoralieLancs · 12/02/2022 21:16

The problem is that we're fighting in a rigged game in the greens. Emma got suspended, so our votes for her counted for nothing.

We tried to get good motions on the agenda, but based on my experience, none of them will be heard. We rarely ever get past 6 motions in each section of conference. The TRA motions got 2nd and 7th, and our motions got 8th and 16th. Now we have a new emergency TRA motion designed to expel us all, that'll probably be heard too.

The last hope was that the purge motion would be ruled out of order, and last night it was ruled in order and added to the agenda.

The green party could be saved, but it would require us all to focus our efforts, and abandon every other party - for a party with one MP? Seems like Labour is the party that forms the next government, and doesn't purge pro-women members (or suspend us when we win) - so my betting is on Labour. I have membership through my union anyway, so I'm focusing on that.

The TRAs are organised, but they've backed the wrong horse. We can outflank them by picking the right one.

Quite. And, Rosie may well defect (if I was her I would).

Whattochoosenow · 13/02/2022 10:27

Scottish greens are completely lost

TheGreatATuin · 13/02/2022 10:56

There's still a chance for the Greens. Emma won her position hands down. Ani didn't. She scraped through on the third round.
TRAs don't have the support they claim. The only reason that Emma was suspended was due to underhanded tactics.
Same with Shahrar. He's been too successful so he's being targeted.
I think we need to remember that this whole issue isn't going to be solved instantly. There is no party that is going to suddenly turn around and not have problems.
There are going to be steps forward, followed by set backs, then steps forward again.
This is going to be solved by all of us working towards that, whether that's speaking to our friends privately, speaking up publicly or just staying in a party like the Greens and quietly voting down the batshit motions and for the sensible ones.
All of the people who approved the various unreasonable suspensions and removals are in elected roles. They can be voted out.
Sadly for TRAs, we have made massive strides in the Greens and elsewhere in the last few years. They know it. It's why they're fighting back so hard and so dirty.

TheGreatATuin · 13/02/2022 11:09

For my part, I refuse to leave the Greens because I am that pissed off.
The people behind all the shit in the GP have behaved atrociously. I am not going to just walk away and let them take over and bully people that easily.
The lunatic fringe might have taken over, but their position is precarious and I'll be damned if they're going to stay there.
If you're unsure as to whether to stay, then I suggest waiting until after the Spring Conference. The votes for the different motions will be a good reading of where we are.
But I'd actually ask everyone to actually join rather than leave and vote.
The more sensible people we have voting for sensible people and sensible motions, the harder it will be for TRAs to throw their toys out of the cot.

I agree. I've said this many times before but given that there is a relatively small number of shouty bullies within the Green Party actually if we didn't flounce off but stuck with it we could actually have a fighting chance of getting rid of the male vermin. We can't do that within Labour. Grey rock and voting with our feet etc.

WarriorN · 13/02/2022 11:45

Completely agree @MidCenturyClegs and @TheGreatATuin.

It's making me more furious and more determined and actually quite keen to ask a few women I know who might join the greens and support women.

Yes.

I joined recently thanks to reading these boards but I'm totally clueless as to how and when I vote and what for Blush.

Do I basically wait for conference then log on and cast my vote on stuff as it happens live??

Or are there things I should keep an eye on outside of this time?

FusionChefGeoff Have you registered for Conference? if so, yes, & if you havent then register! If you can get other members who are not attending to give you their proxy votes, even better.
Lysistra65 · 13/02/2022 17:26

The Green Party is the only party with sane policies on climate disaster & ecolological protectin. All the parties on the left have been infiltrated by these unscientific gender extremists. Stay & fight. Because we need all policies to be based on science so that people will understand that our climate policies are based on real science. Its the future of life on the planet & for our kids we are fighting for & these gender extremists are getting in the way.
