Stonewall taking the EHRC to the UN

Being discussed on radio 4 soon.

Seems SW and the Good Law Project are trying to remove the independence of the EHRC. At least in part it seems due to their intervention in Scotland.

Interview with SW coming up in the next hour

@KittenKong

Did he mention that the previous head had something to do with stonewall?
Oddly, yes.
IvyTwines · 11/02/2022 08:22

The previous chair of the EHRC, presiding over it in the period when women's safe spaces were being removed, was the chair of Stonewall for a decade.

Charley50 · 11/02/2022 08:25

I can't bear it. Stonewall have overstepped once again with their pathetic demands. Sadly they are still thought of as a legitimate organisation by many.

TheExtraGuineaPig · 11/02/2022 08:26

Ugh - been following the R4today hashtag on Twitter - people absolutely refusing to even engage with the safeguarding question. It's as though they can't hear it. Absolutely infuriating. Justin Webb literally said "I'm not asking about trans people, I'm asking about men who lie".

Also the snakey way she tried to use the decisions on same sex marriage to compare, As though there aren't many. many gay and lesbian people who stand against what she's saying.

FOJN · 11/02/2022 08:28

If NK isn't aware of any case where a man has pretended to be trans to gain access to female spaces to commit crime is she telling us that TW actually are a danger to women?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 11/02/2022 08:28

@KittenKong

I wonder how many are bus drivers in comparison to, say, managing DV centres, running girls clubs or working as trauma councillors for rape victims?
Quite. That would be an interesting analysis by occupation.
Goatsaregreat · 11/02/2022 08:38

This is to try to bully the EHRC in advance of the long awaited guidance on single sex provisions. Stonewall have had free rein to remove single sex sports, showers, hospital wards, intimate care etc in favour of men using their mangled stonewall law.
They'll now be able to call the EHRC "the discredited EHRC that has had to be referred to the UN ...." Hmm

LilithOfEden · 11/02/2022 08:41

@IvyTwines

The previous chair of the EHRC, presiding over it in the period when women's safe spaces were being removed, was the chair of Stonewall for a decade.
Yes, David Isaacs. His appointment was the subject of some discussion at the time. What with him being a senior equity partner at Pinsent Masons (Stonewall Employer of the Year umpteen times), and his main source of legal work being government outsourcing contracts. I recall nobody could get to the bottom of from where his nomination had originated.
LilithOfEden · 11/02/2022 08:43

This is Isaacs criticising the new leadership of ECHR last summer and their "direction". He has now retired from Pinsent Masons, so I wonder if he is doing some advisory work back at Stonewall for this latest move of theirs.

LilithOfEden · 11/02/2022 08:45

BTW, if Isaacs did a single thing to elevate a person of colour in his professional legal life, I will eat my hat.

Dinosaurwoman · 11/02/2022 08:47

We need to start writing to our MPs about this

Calist · 11/02/2022 08:48

She ALWAYS has to let us know she’s got a wife and kids, she’s so boringly heteronormative there’s nothing we could possibly be concerned about.

Doesnt she see that is actually pretty offensive to a lot of gay people? It really is homophobia all over again.

KittenKong · 11/02/2022 08:52

As soon as she doesn’t start delivering, there will be cries that she is transphobic for having a female wife, and therefore should step aside for a trans woman (more than likely rather than a trans man). This is the way it’s heading. I wonder if she has considered this at all?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 11/02/2022 08:57

"the discredited EHRC that has had to be referred to the UN ...."

aka the EHRC that was reported to the captured UN by lobbyists who contribute to captured institutions…

We have to have disinformation education in this country. We can't rely wholly on media nor repose our trust in institutions.

KittenKong · 11/02/2022 08:58

I can cry ‘I’m tellin’ literally on anyone to anyone.

So to the lobby groups - cry some more. We see you.

Chersfrozenface · 11/02/2022 09:00

The story on the BBC News website is disgracefully one-sided.

Complaints needed.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/02/2022 09:02

'LGBT charity Stonewall, backed by the Good Law Project, has drawn up a submission to the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, calling for the EHRC to lose its "A rating".

This would prevent it from being able to make representations at the UN Human Rights Council, or its committees on human rights.'

What impact or implications would this have on UK issues?

KittenKong · 11/02/2022 09:02

‘Change their biological sex’ I just heard that phrase in R4.

Eh?

DomesticatedZombie · 11/02/2022 09:03

this attempt to create a hierarchy of human rights in the UK is a very real threat to everyone

No shit, Nancy. And it's Stonewall who are the instigator, attempting to put QT rights at the top of the pile and subjugate all the other rights, as anyone with eyes can clearly see.

highame · 11/02/2022 09:03

It's a disgrace how all, and I mean all areas of civil service, stonewall, government, opposition have, since around 2004, been making decisions about women and their rights. More awareness is causing a kickback, which they should have expected. You cannot bring in law by stealth, or not consider those whose rights you chose to take and then complain when people want to discuss and protest. This is (apparently) a democracy and women have the right to be consulted.

The only option for SW and the Kimonoed dragon is to shout loud and flounce. They would be better looking for common ground, because in the end they will have to. If they cannot see how biased the EHRC was, then nothing anyone says will make any difference

Backtracking is never easy to do, but do it they must (government, civil service etc). We will have a lot more to contend with before a consensus is reached.

I’m not so sure on this. I think having an obedient lesbian heading Stonewall is a useful defence when we complain that it’s now purely a trans rights group.
Phos · 11/02/2022 09:08

I once volunteered with Stonewall. Never again.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 11/02/2022 09:10

Wow, look at how the scream and tantrum when anything deviates from exactly what they are demanding.

It's very telling...

yetanotherusernameAgain · 11/02/2022 09:13

@KittenKong

‘Change their biological sex’ I just heard that phrase in R4.

Eh?

I think he said "change their biological sex on their birth certificate".

None as far as i csn tell.

The UN HRC does not have any real power.

I can't see either China or Russia saying much about trans issues can you? Unless it benefits their sporting achievements...
