Good. She was hopeless. I hope she os replaced with someone who can sweep the Stonewall nonsense and horrendous misogyny out of The Met.

PandorasMailbox · 10/02/2022 21:40

We can but live in hope @ScreamingMeMe

She's the perfect example of the incompetent being promoted. And made a Dame, to boot.

On that basis, why aren't I a Dame? Confused

Abhannmor · 10/02/2022 22:19

Dreadful appointment in the first place. How was she not sacked after the Menenzes killing?

notanotherkatechopin · 11/02/2022 01:47

Nice to have good news for a change.

EeeICouldRipATissue · 11/02/2022 01:54

Good

highame · 11/02/2022 06:20

I don't have faith that a better candidate will be found, in fact, may well be worse. Priti Patel wanted time to find the right candidate and so extended Dick's contract. The woke mayor of London got his way and will be looking for the first trans commissioner for the Met. He has been a nightmare

Spookytooth · 11/02/2022 06:29

I would like to see the statistics on how many eg terrorist attacks were deflected, how many abusive husbands were jailed, how many knives were removed, how many motorists were prosecuted - instead the world today is guided by the attention grabbing negatives on anyone.

It's ridiculous really - should the head of the Barclays bank be fired because some cashier in smalltown nicked some cash. Britain is a sexist, racist country - I'm now sure how much CD is to blame for that .

Quite.
lovelyweathertoday · 11/02/2022 07:11

I think the analogy would be more, should the head of a bank lose their job if multiple branches were shown to be repeatedly covering up corrupt behaviour, and laughing about it.

The problem I have is wondering if there is anyone in the Met who can change the culture.

These are my thoughts.

Would anyone else have done better under the circumstances?

They got rid of Theresa May and replaced her with Boris. Nothing has improved from where I'm sitting and appear to have got a lot lot worse. Confused

I missed the person's name on the BBC report but she was a black woman and said that things were positively starting to change under DC. Unfortunately, the misogny and racism in the Met is deeply ingrained.

I guess Sadiq Khan will want the next candidate to identify as a pineapple to tick all the boxes. The world has gone bloody mad.......

PearPickingPorky · 11/02/2022 07:18

A Damehood for services to dreadful men.

Sprucewillis · 11/02/2022 07:22

Isn't that how most Damehood's are earned?

sashagabadon · 11/02/2022 07:24

I don’t think this is a good thing and as usual Khan has overplayed his hand. Just heard someone very critical of him on Today show and she is right.

FindingMeno · 11/02/2022 07:24

At last.
Won't change any of the deep rot in the Met unfortunately though.

PurpleParrotfish · 11/02/2022 07:40

It’s only been since the recent focus on her that I’ve read about the full extent of the police lies after they killed Jean Charles De Menezes (that he jumped the barrier, that he was wearing a bulky coat, that they shouted warnings). I’m in the ‘she should have resigned 16 years ago’ camp. Also deeply unimpressed by the Met response after Sarah Everard refusing to look at why he wasn’t identified as a clear risk or the well-documented wider problems of misogyny.

thedancingbear · 11/02/2022 08:18

The problem in the Met wasn't this woman. It is violent, misogynistic men. I don't know by what mechanism she was meant to change the fundamental mindset of over 40000 thick-as-mince arseholes.

OhHolyJesus · 11/02/2022 08:20

I'm another who thinks the replacement won't be any better. They could be worse.

Someone new will come along, probably a man, he or she will blame Dick for all that went before and nothing will change, or even attempt change as it was Dick's fault.

twelly · 11/02/2022 08:34

I don't think her resignation should have been forced by politicians - they have their own agenda. Incidents are investigated independently - yes she is in charge of the met - but is she responsible for every single thing that goes wrong - no. Should every one at the top resign when there is a failure lower down - no, although clearly it depends on their role in any incident.

I think she has been an easy target as she cannot fight back in the same way that Boris Johnson does when there is an issue, she has been very professional in the way she has responded to criticism she can't deflect in the same way politicians can. The rules that govern police forces mean her role is very regulated just as her predecessors, police forces have and will continue to face challenges and issues - they will be the same and their leader will for the most part deal wit them in the same way as the regulations allow. I think she should not have been forced out, however, for her own sanity she might be better off away from this situation where she has been the subject of often unfair criticism to which she is powerless to respond.

Well you have a point there. It's clealy a deep rooted, horrible culture that needs action in the form of massive cultural change, which is a LOT of work.
Spookytooth · 11/02/2022 09:01

There is a lack of mental health care, social care, support for homeless teens, nothing done by Gov to stem the drug dealing and county lines,

It's like trying to do a job with your hands tied behind your back.

DomesticatedZombie · 11/02/2022 09:05

Any news on who might replace her?

DomesticatedZombie · 11/02/2022 09:20

And I expect the reason for her getting the push is to do with Boris' parties, rather than any of the many scandalous incidents over the years.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 11/02/2022 09:24

I think The Guardian which can be sensible on same things has it right. It wasn’t so much that there are massive systemic problems it’s that she failed to acknowledge they were systemic. Instead she kept attributing it to a few bad apples rather than the fact the whole barrel was rotten

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/feb/11/cressida-dick-could-not-solve-the-mets-problems-she-could-barely-admit-they-existed

Tbh after the disgraceful behaviour & lies around John Charles de Menezes she should have been nowhere near that job anyway

thedancingbear · 11/02/2022 09:46

This is true on one hand. But the main thing that has driven Dick out of office is her inability to stop what is a clear majority of met officers, abusing, insulting, belittling, and in some instances, raping and murdering women.

Mental health provision and county lines have precisely fuck all to do with this.
