"defacing public property"

Well that's what she did, how would you describe it?

Thelnebriati · 31/01/2022 22:13

I dont think its wise to speculate as theres an ongoing investigation, so lets knock that on the head. Thanks.

Arresting someone based on what they said on twitter is a little more tricky, all they need to say is they made it up to show off and they've got reasonable doubt, but who knows, maybe there will be additional arrests.

I had to laugh at this. Police Scotland seems to have no issue with arresting women based on what they have said on Twitter.

Given the circumstantial evidence, the Police in this case have brought the TRA in for questioning at the very least, surely, given the women who have had knocks on their door to 'find out their thinking' about legal, single sex exemptions?

HaroldMeeker · 31/01/2022 22:17

Ooooh A3 posters!!!!

My god! The NERVE of the woman to print A3 posters. ah do declare, ah may faint

Jesus barley, you sound like hyacinth bucket at times.

Waitwhat23 · 31/01/2022 22:18

Apologies @Thelnebriati hadn't seen your last post - I retract my last post.

Thelnebriati · 31/01/2022 22:21

No worries, lets not get baited into this thread being deleted. Lets keep it general, not specific.

It's not something I could care less about personally but it is something local councils tend to care about because they have to pay to have them removed (or rather local council tax and business rate payers do). Most councils operate a zero tolerence policy meaning anyone caught will face prosecution of some kind.
Thelnebriati · 31/01/2022 22:24

OK, thanks, you made your point.

Sniffs with disapproval at the environmental impact of a3. They really ought to have saved the planet by using a4, you know.

HaroldMeeker · 31/01/2022 23:05

Hmmmm. Seeing as I believe that Layla has retracted that bit, or at least clarified they never said it, I can only come to the conclusion that Pie's motives are, ahem, less than wholesome. I'm shocked, I tell you. Shocked.

MargaritaPie · 31/01/2022 23:31

Just posting what they police have said, I'm not aware of any recent updates since then.

Stealhsquirrelnutkin · 31/01/2022 23:35

The force released a statement here. It mentions sharp objects have been found behind the stickers.

They warned the public not to try and remove stickers because broken glass and pins had been found underneath them. They worded it very carefully so that everyone would assume they were talking about stickers posted by Jenni, as the BBC and ITV assumed, but covered their arses by not actually coming out and saying it directly. They have obviously failed to do even the most basic of investigations, (or they would have quickly realised that the informant serving them that persistent urban myth was not to be trusted).

Hopefully they will end up having to pay out hefty compensation for smearing Jenni in such a devious and underhanded manner. The people officially responsible for the wrongful arrest, brutality, cruelty and discrimination against a disabled person, and general lack of understanding of the actual law need to be held to account, and there are obviously a lot of us who feel the same way, judging by how quickly the fundraiser has grown.

Gwent police obviously need to get some proper equality and diversion training organised, because, as Jenni told them at the time, they've been Stonewalled.

Bad enough that they wasted tax payers money on getting that mendacious shower in to "train" them on "equality law as Stonewall wishes it to be", but now they are going to waste even more tax payers cash defending the indefensible in court, then paying compensation AND then paying to get training in from a more reliable and trustworthy source, in what UK's actual equality law at the current time, including all of the protected characteristics (which cover sex and disability, but does not include "gender identity").

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 31/01/2022 23:38

It's not just stickers, it's A3 posters as well according to Swayne.

Goodness gracious. Not A3 posters as well😲

Avalokiteshvara · 01/02/2022 01:33

I have known Jennifer Swayne personally for about 15 years. THERE IS NO WAY SHE WOULD PUT RAZOR BLADES IN STICKERS! She is a kind and compassionate lady who wouldn't harm anyone.

Feministwoman · 01/02/2022 02:40

@barleybadminton

My guess is upon answering bail the defendant may be NFA'd for lack of evidence.

lol, they literally caught her in the act and she admitted it in her police interview.

Odfod The *d" is obviously gender neutral. Wouldn't want to upset the monitors!
Barbarantia · 01/02/2022 03:58

Anyone emits a statement based on scientific fact : bias, I tell you! Bias!
Police release a statement based on suspicion : truth, I tell you! Truth!

Grin once you've started seeing through it, you can't unsee it.

"defacing public property"

Well that's what she did, how would you describe it?

I seem to recall a batch of TRAs drawing all over a pavement some time ago. And TRAs putting up posters and stickers.

(Never mind the abuse on Twitter.)

EdithStourton · 01/02/2022 08:02

Does posting on a thread mean you are obsessed by something
LOL Barley. The hours of your life that you've spent lecturing the bad mummies about this must be considerable. I've not been able to keep up and I only work part time.

oldwomanwhoruns · 01/02/2022 09:39

Getting this thread back on track -

The protest went really well. Posie had got some fabulous placards printed with good pithy text on both sides.

We protested on a handy small park/traffic island right outside the main Police station, and so all the cars which had to wait for the lights (it's quite a big traffic junction) were winding down their windows so that they could hear the speakers

Two police (including a DI) listened to all the speakers.

The local paper had a journalist there, who tweeted throughout the protest, to the newspaper.

Lots of photos on Posie's and WRN twitter. And the livestream on YouTube! Smile

Looking at the definition of criminal damage

The Criminal Damage Act 1971 states that you are likely to face a criminal damage sentence if, without lawful excuse, you destroy or damage any property belonging to another person, or you intend to destroy or damage any such property, or you have been reckless as to whether any such property would be destroyed or damaged.

So given that Newport is a stickering and postering hotspot, where this behaviour is plentiful, defence could argue "precedence" and "assumed consent". No previous charges have been placed against people putting stickers up. So it's a loose case at best for the CPS I'd guess.

HaroldMeeker · 01/02/2022 10:12

That's excellent.

WeeBisom · 01/02/2022 10:57

I'm surprised she's been charged with criminal damage, as you need to show an alteration to the property which affects its value or usefulness. Attaching a poster or sticker to a lamppost doesn't affect its utility. A far more suitable charge would be fly posting, which is subject to a fixed fine of a couple of hundred quid under the highways act 1980. It is indeed intriguing to note that certain stickers and posters are perfectly fine, even if a person calls the police to advertise their intent, but ones supporting women's rights are criminal.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 01/02/2022 11:59

Ah yes, that well known legal term bang to rights.

Truly Barley, you are the gift that just keeps giving.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 01/02/2022 12:02

And just leaving this here as a reminder of what women are dealing with in regards to the police...

Bang to rights indeed...
