I have come here from Twitter, and am hoping to discuss the idea of deprogramming for young people in regards Critical Social Justice part of which is queer theory and gender ideology.

This task is now my actual job and am already in discussion with parents and folks in the USA

Am I on the right forum?

Possibly - if you can explain a bit more clearly?? :)

EDIJester · 21/01/2022 11:31

Apologies, essentially I am working on two seminars, one for parents and one for young people.

These will give parents a toolkit and perhaps a way of looking at this phenomenon (gender ideology) that may help in understanding.

The one for young people is around having a mindset of individuality and critical thinking. This does not directly attack the ideas they have often subscribed to but gives them the ability to think more clearly.

It undermines the ideas but with subtlety.

I think anything that encourages people to think about this issue and have the courage to it out for the bs it is can only be a good thing.

This you?

Presumably you’re @theedijester on Twitter?

If you’re wondering if this is where all the infamous mumsnet “terfs” hangout then yes, you’ve found the right board.

I speak to my 12 year old about gender ideology, and how ridiculous it is, but a specific resource would be useful.

Should the objective be to undermine the ideas or to examine them?

Going in with an objective to undermine, irrespective of what the ideas are, sits wrong with me.

If they are bad ideas (which many of them seem to be) then looking at them neutrally will make them dissolve.

Welcome @EDIJester - nice to see you here!

AgeOfReason99 · 21/01/2022 12:08

I am finding that the gender identity stuff is too personal for my kid, for me to really address and debunk. I don't think there is anything I can really say that will be accepted. But social justice extremism seemed to be the first thing she got into, through Tumblr, prior to gender ideology. So I was trying to dig away at some of the whackier social justice ideas she is exposed to, to see if I can just get some light shining in on the dogma there. I think there is more chance, because it is not all so intensely about her. With the gender ID stuff, she would perceive every rational argument as an attack on her personally.

@EDIJester Is this your blog? www.patreon.com/posts/49777227

Will read and come back :)

Thelnebriati · 21/01/2022 12:40

I'd like to suggest you also work on a toolkit to help parents 'vaccinate' their children against this (and other) ideologies.

Encourage critical thinking, face up to the facts even when they aren't nice, don't expect things to go your way all the time, deal with emotions such as disappointment, and dealing with peer pressure.
To do this, parents have to learn these skills for themselves first. So encourage self examination.

Be more Neville Longbottom?

Thirtytimesround · 21/01/2022 13:06

@OneEpisode - Four words that say so much! 😍

Op chat to TransgenderTrend, they’re very wise about all this.

I agree, do look up Transgender Trend, and also the Safe Schools Alliance. Lots of well-researched, honest and accurate information, relevant to children and teenagers. Fair Play for Women is another of the many useful feminist sites that have sprung up to defend women’s rights and child safeguarding.

EDIJester · 21/01/2022 16:03

Yes. That is my blog. How about if I run an introductory event to explain?

Thank you for all the ideas and suggestions, well up to speed with sex matters/ Transgender trend and the wonderful work they do.

I think a zoom call to explain myself might be a good way yo go.

I already have a preliminary project plan and curriculum designed which has gone to a few people including For Women Scotland and others who were very supportive. And that may be the best way to start.

My Patreon is available with most things open to all if you would like to see some of my work.

If anyone is interested I am holding a Twitter space this evening on educational capture.

You will need to have read the blog it mentioned to get the full idea but this could be of interest to some of you.

@EDIJester It’s not my area, and I found it really hard to follow! The ‘Preying on Children’ piece, I got more out of.

Crouton19 · 21/01/2022 18:47

I would really love to see something directed at teenagers/young adults (esp the SJW type) to help them develop critical thinking skills, deal with alternative views without crumbling or wanging on about being unsafe and maintaining respect for others. This seems to have been overlooked at university stage (I wonder whether those who did not go to uni have fared better) and as a future employer/colleague of said young adults, if it looks like they are a mass of finger pointing and emotional blackmail, it isn’t going to help with career progress.

EDIJester · 21/01/2022 18:48

This is what the seminar aims to do

OP, I think you should look at this
it may not suit of you are after a 'one off' intervention but it is a proven methodology for improving critical thinking, as well as communication, listening, empathy and questioning
