School speaker - LGBT session - best resource

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 11/01/2022 09:39

Hi there,

I work in a school and one of our PHSCE session will involve an outside speaker on LGBT issues. I have some input in who it is so I know I do not want Stonewall, Mermaids or any charity that subscribes to gender ideology and spends most of their time talking about that. Unfortunately, I don't know of any that are non-biased and factual - can any of you mumsnetters suggest an LGBT organisation that doesn't push Stonewall's agenda? I would suggest LGB alliance but I think my school would dismiss this.

Thank you,

I don't personally know of any good training providers for schools but I imagine if they exist, Safe Schools Alliance would know of them, so that would be a good place to start:

safeschoolsallianceuk.net/

Also Simon Fanshawe runs Diversity by Design, which is non-genderist-ideology diversity training for workplaces. So while they would be no use to you directly, they might have knowledge of other providers working in schools:

Hope somebody else has some more useful suggestions!

Thank you - really helpful suggestions. Love Simon Fanshawe!

Genspect recently tweeted that they’d run a session at a school so might be something they are getting into?

Happy to try and help, OP!

Good call, rogdmum - looks like they are indeed getting into that:

Amazing - have emailed diversity and safe schools and also Bayswater which is a good one. Genspect next on my list! These kids will not be brainwashed…!

You want someone to speak on LGBT issues but you want someone who will explicitly ignore the T?

These organisations are extremely far from non-biased and factual, all of them have an explicitly anti-trans agenda.
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/01/2022 11:41

I think OP is looking for an organisation who has SAFEGUARDING ALL kids as an interested and not one with prioritises the T above all else?

Helleofabore · 11/01/2022 11:42

I think you are mistaking an organisation that does not advocate extreme trans activism as being 'anti-trans'. Which is not unusual given your other posts.

I think you will find that Genspect and Bayswater are both organisations that advocate for improving trans health care to be more relevant for the current cohort of transitioners. That being the majority of teenage and young adult females.

What facts are they presenting that you disagree with? Exactly please, not a hand wave away of 'just facts'.

What anti-trans policies do they have please? And not just a generic feeling. Actual policy points that you disagree with.

Otherwise, this is just another negative generalisation from a poster that clearly has their own bias and prejudice.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 11/01/2022 12:07

So you think allowing those who tell children they can choose their sex and that everyone has special internal feelings called a 'gender identity' is non biased and fact?

Children should be taught facts.

Humans cannot change sex.

A tiny minority of people feel more comfortable presenting as the opposite sex. They still don't change sex.

They do not need to have or choose a gender identity.

Only women can get pregnant.

A penis is a male sex organ.

A lesbian is a same SEX attracted female and being told they should 'include' males with gender identities in their dating pool and sex life is homophobic corrective rape.

Feelings dont change biology.

lanadelgrey · 11/01/2022 12:29

How about a prominent figure who can talk about their life and experiences as a person with a particular sexuality? What is was like coming out etc

How very dare she have the nerve to want someone who won’t do a training full of baked-in misogyny and concepts that are actively harmful to children!

I know it’s difficult for you to deal with when women fight back against our oppression and make safeguarding a higher priority than pandering to male desires, I do really understand how very uncomfortable it must be for you when you are so familiar with your position of male privilege and male primacy.

But the fact is we are human beings too, and so are the children we care about, so I’m afraid you’re going to have to get used to women resisting you on this. Because we’re not going to stop. We’re going to carry on until we have made enough women (and men) aware of what’s going on that we start to see real changes and your misogynistic, homophobic, child-unfriendly agenda gets dismantled.

I know you’d like to subject us to your control for ever and ever, amen. We have other ideas.

Helleofabore · 11/01/2022 13:15

I am sure that blueberry will back up their negative generalisation with some substantial evidence.

After all, their blind bias would never motivate them to denouce a charity without solid evidence would it. There must be some very substantial evidence that cannot be interpreted any other way.

🤣🤣 I'm always so impressed with the optimism on here.
Dinosaurhearmeroar · 11/01/2022 15:30

I will ignore that anti trans comment (smh) - I don’t want to overlook the t at all, I want the organisation to be broad minded and inclusive and not have a very specific agenda eg stonewall and the many lesbian and gay people who feel totally unspoken for. Thank you to the rest of you - speaking sense!

OP posts:

@lanadelgrey great call - I’ll see if I can find someone.

OP posts:
RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 11/01/2022 19:26

Good luck, Dinosaurhearmeroar. I hope you can find someone to come in and do an unbiased session that won’t mislead any pupils or encourage girls to give up their rights. Or encourage boys to trample over girls’ boundaries.

I think it’s great that you’re doing this, and that you’re in a position to do this. Do you expect to encounter much/any resistance from the school? Asking because you said you thought they would be dismissive of the LGBA.

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 11/01/2022 19:48

@RoaringtoLangClegintheDark thanks, we will see how I get on. I got an email back from Simon Fanshawe who said I could call him for advice! I think I will - what a guy!

I am expecting pushback from school - it’s not necessarily that they agree with gender ideology, more that they don’t know enough about it as my views (which I am quite vocal about) are not openly shared. Example - last week with colleagues I said that what was happening to JK Rowling was horrific and that I agreed with her stance (she’s pro women, not anti trans) and got told “you can’t say that!” The person who said this admitted they agreed with me but didn’t want to say it out loud. Just a lot of ignorance (not malicious, just from lack of reading widely) and wanting to accept the latest “progressive” view. I will keep on speaking!

OP posts:
malloo · 11/01/2022 20:20

Good for you OP, I hope you can find someone to give a good quality balanced session that is genuinely inclusive. Many of the parents won't even be aware of this but they'll thank you one day!

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 12/01/2022 17:08

I applaud your courage Dinosaur in taking this on in what sounds like potentially quite a hostile environment - even if it is, as you say, more out of ignorance than conviction. Wishing you all the best and please do update if/when you find someone!

BreatheAndFocus · 12/01/2022 17:29

@BlueberryCheezecake

You see, I don’t think Gender Ideology is Trans. Many trans people don’t believe in it. Gender Ideology is a ‘c-word’ and it’s warped being trans and is responsible for all this crap that doesn’t benefit anyone in the LGBT community. It’s made life harder for trans people, redefined homosexuality, and made such a broad ‘queer’ umbrella that practically 100% of people come under it.

I’d be happy if they taught about trans people and dysphoria. They can do that without mentioning Gender Ideology, which, to me is at best old-fashioned bollocks based on dated stereotypes, and at worst a kind of new-age religion of gendered souls.

Dinosaurhearmeroar · 12/01/2022 20:22

Thanks @RoaringtoLangClegintheDark @Dinosaurhearmeroar

@BreatheAndFocus I agree with you - there is a right and wrong way to teach about trans and I want to approach it really sensitively.

OP posts:
CompleteGinasaur · 12/01/2022 21:04

Transgender Trend would also be a good option, Dinosaurhearmeroar.

Cleopatracat · 12/01/2022 22:02

Genspect deliver training to schools and colleges. Safe Schools Alliance and Bayswater don't. I think transgender trend do though

hivemindneeded · 12/01/2022 22:18

Could you find some young people to speak about their recent experiences - a gay/lesbian teen or young person, a trans person, maybe someone who has detransitioned or was exploring trans and found they were actually not misgendered, a bi person, a non-binary person etc, so there is a forum of experiences. That way you avoid getting one prescribed opinion.
