Interesting comment:
This newspaper is full of people attempting to be mini goats on this matter: people who comment in support of Janice and JKR whenever an article like this is published. As a New Years resolution, perhaps the management could assess their comments policy. The ability of other readers to be offended by innocuous comments, and the alacrity at which those comments are removed, turns us all in to sheep, even tho use who are trying not to be. Broaden the definition of offensive, keep a log of the same people who keep shutting everyone else down and then shut them down for stifling debate, and allow the readership to decide for themselves what is and isn’t worthy of reading. Protect commenters with hundreds or even thousands of recommends and allow them to be a goat for a day. The readers aren’t fools: they know a good comment when they see one. Let most recommended comments stand, to be free from deletion by the people who simply don’t want to witness opposing opinions. Janice is leading the way if this. Let’s see the editors back her up, show some spine and do the same
The problem is, and continues to be across many news and other sites, is OpenWeb. It has a stranglehold across Internet comments. The story remains the same. Anything not in agreement isn’t permitted. It’s come to a point where when I see that OW is the moderator, I tend not to comment…which I guess just plays into its hands..
