Haven't seen this mentioned

Shinigami Eyes is a new browser addon that highlights transphobic and trans-friendly social network pages and users with different colors.
Shinigami Eyes for Chrome and Firefox.

It's been reported to regulators in Norway on Article 9 grounds which prohibits the registrations of people’s political views, philosophical convictions and physical persons' sexual relations or sexual orientations etc."
www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/shinigami-eyes-reported-to/

A plugin that flags social network pages and users as transphobic or trans-friendly has been reported to Norwegian authorities over concerns that it is in violation of data protection laws.

Shinigami Eyes uses a color-coding system to denote the attitude of a site or a user toward the trans community. The extension turns green to denote a trans-friendly site or user and red when that site or user is considered anti-trans.

A mix of manual labeling, user contributions, and machine learning is used to decide whether a site is phobic or friendly.

In the gaming world, Shinigami Eyeballs or Eyes of the Shinigami are eyes that can see both the names and the lifespans of humans floating above their heads.

TRAs are totally on board.

More than that though, if the extension were to be more widely adopted, say by people working in the media and politics. Then it could prove an incredibly useful and powerful tool for avoiding accidentally leaning into anti-trans biases and rhetoric. I can’t stress enough that media representation and coverage of issues surrounding transgender equality has been appalingly biased against us. It is not a debate whether we deserve human rights, and groups framing us as predators should not be listened to, as The Morning Star found when they published the now infamous crocodile cartoon and had to apologise.

It was created by an extremely dodgy character indeed.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/11/2021 11:30

It's not new, it's been around for several years.

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/11/2021 11:34

I saw an article on Twitter about it last week. I thought it was terrifying. I'm sure that the Fox killer has mentioned it, but I'm blocked by him. The implication of this seemed to be that it could be used by universities and employers to keep out the non believers.

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/11/2021 11:43

Sorry I don't know how to link, but if you go on Twitter Jordan Tyldesley has an article on it, on 14 November

A recent article by Jordan Tyldesley in the Critic. I wasn't aware of this before. It will be interesting to see what happens in Norway. This is a really sinister use of data from all angles not just this issue. The ethical framework of social media etc really needs getting to grips with.

Women keep reporting it, it keeps being banned and reinstated.

AssassinatedBeauty · 22/11/2021 11:55

This sounds bonkers. If manual labelling and user contributions are used, then this is simply a combination of the developer and the most active user's opinion on whether a site is transphobic or not. It could obviously be gamed by anyone keen enough to make lots of user contributions. And I bet there would be plenty of people and sites who wouldn't take kindly to being labelled transphobic, publicly. Libellous, clearly.

'EFN is concerned that the app is a threat to people’s safety by putting a mark against their name. It could be used to identify targets for online harassment, cyberstalking and physical attacks.'

HoardingFloralBuntingInACervix · 22/11/2021 12:36

lol @ cursed E suddenly realizing that making lists of goodies and baddies to control people might backfire spectacularly. They really have big brains over there in totalitarian gender land.

Sounds like an interesting topic for freedom of information requests, if anyone suspects people in the public sector of using it.

Using that kind of personal data to determine whether service users/constituents are worthy of being served/represented is very sinister indeed, not to mention illegal.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/11/2021 16:47

The child rapist?

I'm not sure who you are thinking of. The article posted above by Jordan Tyldesley is a really good overview.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/11/2021 16:50

may come as a surprise to some people to find out they’re on the colour-coded “wrong side of history”. Jess Phillips, I’m afraid you are also red. I typed into Google “why is Jess Phillips red? Shinigami Eyes”, and found users having a discussion about the fact that when she reads out a list of murdered women in parliament, she fails to mention trans-women. It looks as if her fate has been sealed whether or not she decides to stand with us appointed TERFS.

As we know, there aren't actually any trans names to read out Confused I'm sure Jess would if there were.

Gncq · 22/11/2021 16:59

Versions of TerfBlocker have been created and shared by certain people over the years, one of whom was a child rapist and underage trans-age fetishist euphemistically referred to as "age play", who has a trans child.

Another terf blocker creater/sharer was a trans penis having person who gained a position in the Labour party as a women's officer. The only duty of that position is to encourage more women into politics in your constituency that is all. This person decided the best way to fulfilled that role was to ban and expel loads of women from the Labour Party membership, using Terf Blocker to help them.

Other examples more or less as bad.

It has a very long and painful history.

Also looking up your colleagues would probably constitute workplace harassment if you tried to use it against them.

NotTerfNorCis · 22/11/2021 17:13

That's a word for the kind of ideological movement that enforces conformity and stamps out debate this rigorously.

CheeseMmmm · 23/11/2021 03:28

Been around for years and iirc created by d challenor. With help from child forgotten name.

Imo. Do you feel personally at risk or concerned for anything IRL?

if not then. It's a bit sad. Autoblock everyone on a list made and ? maintained by others?

Years ago there were people on the list for no apparent reason.

It must have thousands on it by now!

Means nothing. Way way long. I mean I can't imagine anyone trawling through what must be a monster database and doing. Something. To everyone.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/11/2021 07:26

This is about Shinigami Eyes, not terfblocker.

Yes, that might clarify it.

That's what stood out to me too.

Jess Phillips is a 'TERF' for failing to read out the names of mtf transitioners murdered this year - even though to my knowledge there haven't been any murders of mtf transitioners in the UK in either 2020 or 2021 (which is a good thing!!)

I am willing to be corrected if my understanding of the numbers is incorrect.

It isn't.
