Haven't seen this mentioned

Shinigami Eyes is a new browser addon that highlights transphobic and trans-friendly social network pages and users with different colors.
Shinigami Eyes for Chrome and Firefox.

It's been reported to regulators in Norway on Article 9 grounds which prohibits the registrations of people’s political views, philosophical convictions and physical persons' sexual relations or sexual orientations etc."

A plugin that flags social network pages and users as transphobic or trans-friendly has been reported to Norwegian authorities over concerns that it is in violation of data protection laws.

Shinigami Eyes uses a color-coding system to denote the attitude of a site or a user toward the trans community. The extension turns green to denote a trans-friendly site or user and red when that site or user is considered anti-trans.

A mix of manual labeling, user contributions, and machine learning is used to decide whether a site is phobic or friendly.

In the gaming world, Shinigami Eyeballs or Eyes of the Shinigami are eyes that can see both the names and the lifespans of humans floating above their heads.

TRAs are totally on board.

More than that though, if the extension were to be more widely adopted, say by people working in the media and politics. Then it could prove an incredibly useful and powerful tool for avoiding accidentally leaning into anti-trans biases and rhetoric. I can’t stress enough that media representation and coverage of issues surrounding transgender equality has been appalingly biased against us. It is not a debate whether we deserve human rights, and groups framing us as predators should not be listened to, as The Morning Star found when they published the now infamous crocodile cartoon and had to apologise.

Can the maker be sued if I manage to find something transphobic on a 'green' site (or user)?

doublemonkey · 23/11/2021 15:22

@Thelnebriati

Women keep reporting it, it keeps being banned and reinstated.
Reporting it to who?
Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/11/2021 15:36

Google Chrome, I imagine

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/11/2021 15:38

Apparently lots of TRAs are marked red, because it's very subjective! A lot of them don't like it for that reason. They also don't like it that people can theoretically collect a list of green people to target, as it cuts both ways, and I am with them on that.

doublemonkey · 23/11/2021 18:13

Might be better to make complaints to Github.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/11/2021 23:19

I don't think there is much they can do, is there?

Thelnebriati · 25/11/2021 10:21

@doublemonkey On the Chrome webstore page for every extension there's a link to report abuse. The choices include ''illegal activity'', 'targeted harassment'' and ''other issues'' with a text box.
