Seems girls aren’t cancelled after all when the adults get involved.

Have you read the article? The movement is called Girls Night or similar. It's not the BBC.

Blessex · 27/10/2021 07:08

@Pandaly yes I have read the article. Have you been following this story?

‘Girls Night In’ was indeed coined by the women leading it. Then they issued a statement saying they were changing the name from ‘Girls Night In’ to ‘Night In’ because they came under pressure that they weren’t being ‘inclusive enough’.

Seems like the BBC ignored that memo - which is a good thing!

The movement to stay in is called ‘Girls Night In’ movement, whereby they plan to boycott nightclubs for a night in protest. Therefore the BBC aren’t using the term, the university students are.

Blessex · 27/10/2021 07:13

Ok I give up!!! The university students felt pressurised to drop the word ‘girl’. Sorry I posted this in sex and gender discussions as I thought people here were following the story.

@Blessex ah right I see. Apologies I had only read a few articles and didn't realise they had changed their name to be more inclusive.

eurochick · 27/10/2021 07:15

I knew what you mean OP. Clearly some posters haven't seen the pile on that got the organisers to change the name.

Pandaly · 27/10/2021 07:15

Yes sorry I only saw your OP

BigGreenOlives · 27/10/2021 07:19

Students at Edinburgh were pressured to include anyone who identified as female as well as girls/women.

picklemewalnuts · 27/10/2021 07:20

Let's hope it stays.

Blessex · 27/10/2021 07:20

@Pandaly ha no probs. Yes so the female students got a pile on indeed and made a statement that they were going to drop the word ‘girl’ because it wasn’t inclusive enough. Seems common sense is returning.

The BBC are still calling it ‘Girls Night In’ 👏🏻

I think it’s cool to say anyone can stay home. Of course we are inclusive there. Love it that other people are in solidarity.

Just don’t make us cancel our words, identity and frankly a super catchy and super clear title to a movement.

Tabasco007 · 27/10/2021 07:36

So let me get this right, a movement called 'girls night in' that came about because girls were being targeted in clubs, spiked and injected, got a pile on because they used the word girls.....WTF is happening in the world right now, who wasn't that being inclusive too I wonder. I mean boys maybe, as I have read about some boys that it happened too, but if girls want to protest about this then they bloody well should be able to without having to change their words. Who was giving them a hard time and who were they excluding?

picklemewalnuts · 27/10/2021 07:38

Just using the word 'girls' was enough to exclude people who wanted in. In my opinion, the very ones the girls needed to keep out.

Blessex · 27/10/2021 07:43

@Tabasco007 100% correct. And now the girls are falling over themselves to say that it’s not just girls drinks that are being spiked. It’s boys too! Our poor daughters!

OP posts:
BigGreenOlives · 27/10/2021 07:45

Given a hard time by boys identifying as girls (or more likely male activists) and non binary identifying girls.

Trans students who are on medicalisation are getting upset about people speaking for them & not letting them just blend in.

Pandaly · 27/10/2021 07:45

The name's just pointless now then. They could have called it "Girl's (plus anyone who feels they are under threat of being spiked because they look like a 'Girl')'s Night in

geojellyfish · 27/10/2021 07:45

I can't believe the BBC haven't even bothered to do a Twitter poll to ascertain if this is an important enough issue facing women! What lazy and irresponsible journalism to rely on the experiences of just a few women. And from the state broadcaster!

Such a transparent anti-man agenda. I am friends with lots of women and NONE of them have experienced this so I doubt this has happened in any significant number.

What I can never get my head around is that if TWAW then surely TGAG? So why don’t trans girls now want to be called girls? My head is all over the place.

I'm following OP don't worry some of us know what you're talking about 🤣🤣 I felt sorry for the girls being pressured into changing the name FFS glad to see it's being ignored. To be fair though just calling it night in doesn't give any indication what the article is about and would likely have been read less, it's not the BBC sticking up for the girls.

Well yeah. Girl only excuses "anyone who doesn't identify as a Girl". They can have their own night.
Pandaly · 27/10/2021 07:51

*excludes

Blessex · 27/10/2021 07:58

@Hattie765 yep maybe the girls will see it was indeed a catchy and clear headline - and that’s how best to get PR attention.

Yes, I thought the whole point of TWAW was that transwomen are automatically invited into any female named space? Aren't they "othering" themselves by insisting that they are referred to separately? Surely any transwoman would read "girls' night in" and think "great- that's me!"
