He didn't engage with any of the replies, apart from when his friend Ellie Mae O Hagan came in with a suggestion (and that suggestion turns out to be the person he has chosen for his show, I think she is part of Sisters Uncut).

He didn't actually turn off replies on the tweet asking who is good to speak to about institutional misogyny. Replies are still up and you can still comment. But he has tweeted about his show today on the subject and has turned off replies on that.

Also, do women's voices need to be amplified? Or do men need to stfu and listen instead of drowning out our perfectly clear and appropriately-volumed voices?

Well, quite! I know that people's "voices" being "heard" is a pretty standard metaphor, but needing to "amplify" some voices seems to suggest a public arena in which it's the loudest voices that get heard, and that if important voices are not being heard, it's a loudness problem, rather than a other-people-listening problem. That might all feel a bit of an abstract point if it weren't for the fact that women are all too familiar with being spoken over by loud-voiced men at work meetings etc.

What I find most frightening is that I really believe he thinks he's the good guy.

The thing that really defines him for me was the article he wrote early in the pandemic about women hiring cleaners, and then it turned out that he had hired a cleaner.

What can you expect from someone with that level of self-reflection?

He can’t really claim to be a journalist with his finger on the pulse of all the latest issues if he has to put up statements like that on his Twitter. Women’s safety is the biggest talking point at the moment and he knows nothing about it.

All that work has been going on for years and he has been completely oblivious to it because he has blocked everyone who is doing it. Those women you blocked don’t need you.

And still he continues to double down. I can't work out if he is genuinely so dim that he doesn't get it, or if he gets it perfectly well but has just gone too far down the 'trans rights' Road there is just no coming back for him, even when he knows that what he is saying is hypocritical, misogynistic and makes no sense? Or he just doesn't care about women outside of when they can be used to make him look good and look like he has his finger on the pulse?
