Straw that broke the camels back today - www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/02/pregnant-people-covid-vaccination-coronavirus-us

Can anyone suggest where I can read news where women are referred to by name?

OP posts:
BraveBananaBadge · 02/10/2021 21:26

Part of the reason is because pregnant and breastfeeding people are frequently bombarded by misinformation and disinformation campaigns.

Hm quite how the Guardian can reason that with a straight face is beyond me.

dyslek · 02/10/2021 21:30

RT, Spiked, Quillette, The Unherd, Naked Capitilism?

AffronttoBS · 02/10/2021 21:37

GB NEWS

AffronttoBS · 02/10/2021 21:37

The Times

OatcakeCravings · 02/10/2021 21:58

Second The Times

HummingBeeBox · 02/10/2021 22:09

This is so bloody infuriating. It also leaves no room for any discussion of important statistics relating by to sex based outcomes from Covid. We we all know these pregnant people and breast feeding have female bodies. Why is that so hard to say or so dangerous to print? The term women is being re defined before our eyes so they're all flip flapping around that, but why at the very least can't they say females. Biological females. Argh!!

HummingBeeBox · 02/10/2021 22:10

Sorry, missed point of thread. Just makes my blood boil.

Will have a look at the Times

ComprehensiveTea · 02/10/2021 23:12

For general political news, there's the Economist, of course.
Second Quillette and UnHerd.

nauticant · 02/10/2021 23:18

Also The Times. Look online for a special deal, they're often running them.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2021 23:31

The guardian.com on weekends when it's The Observer?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2021 23:37

The page had links to pieces from July and august referring to 'pregnant women'...
Anyone want to bet if the next item on a similar theme will have expunged 'breastfeeding' in favour of 'chest feeding'?

NonnyMouse1337 · 03/10/2021 06:31

Read lots of different sources. It's much better to engage with a variety of viewpoints and writers from across the political divides.

EdgeOfACoin · 03/10/2021 07:31

Avoid American websites. It's 'pregnant people' all the way and it makes my blood pressure rise.

As if my husband and I sat down and had a nice chat about which one of us would carry and birth the child!

KillingMeDeftly · 03/10/2021 07:31

Guardian US is ridiculous. The U.K. edition does at least say pregnant women. The journalist however, is unrepentant 🙄

merrymouse · 03/10/2021 07:38

This is a Guardian US story. Maybe one day they will spot a link between ‘pregnant people’ and ‘women’.

The main U.K. Guardian is better and still manages to carry stories like this:

www.theguardian.com/science/2021/aug/06/recruiting-women-for-cardiovascular-research-is-harder-study-finds

I think this is all about money. The Guardian prioritises US clicks over coherent editorial policy.

merrymouse · 03/10/2021 07:44

X post.

Because the journalist is American she prioritises individual assertion of identity over words that enable women to talk about equality and rights.

BraveBananaBadge · 03/10/2021 08:06

I discovered CapX this week after following links on here, it seems considered and balanced. The Economist or Tortoise perhaps?

NecessaryScene · 03/10/2021 08:31

Moving away from newspapers, the Spectator and the Economist are both mainstream magazines that are still serious, and have been good on this particular subject, so deserve to be supported.

Jaysmith71 · 03/10/2021 08:59

Please cross RT off your list and block their channel. It is asymmetric warfare. They say one thing while in Russia their sister channels promote "traditional values" that promote and encourage gay-bashing and wife-beating.

Agree.

This is such an obvious own goal that it can easily be exploited by people whose goal is to actively obscure facts.

andyoldlabour · 03/10/2021 14:21

I wouldn't cross any news source off my list, particularly if they are the ones covering an important subject.
I read RT on a daily basis, mainly because the BBC, Guardian, Independent cannot be trusted anymore.
Here are a couple of articles, maybe you will have to hold your nose, maybe you won't even bother to read them.

Found many stories that show Putin in a bad light on RT?

highame · 04/10/2021 07:16

Definitely cross RT off your lists, this is the propaganda arm of the Kremlin. They do 'hook' stories to grab your interest but you don't have to dig very far to find the misinformation. Some countries have banned and I assume Ofcom keep a careful eye.

I worked for a newspaper many years ago and one of the things I learned was that we go to media that reflects our views. The only good way to get information is to read a variety of opinion
