Journalists- now we’ve had the Cervix Q - ask why transmen can’t inherit Hereditary Peerages

Is now the right time to unleash upon hapless politicians in interviews:

‘Is it transphobic that transmen cannot inherit Hereditary Peerages’

Niche subject, sure but the sheer brass neck that in the GRA it was specifically excluded that women who then become transmen cannot inherit Hereditary Peerages ahead of their brothers!

Definitely!

EishetChayil · 29/09/2021 22:26

I learned about this quite early on in my terfery, and it cemented the ideology as Absolute Bullshit in my mind.

ShadesOfMagenta · 29/09/2021 22:30

Man says they are a trans woman>>>>>woman’s toilets, prisons, hospital wards - sure unless a ‘single sex exemption’ is invoked - which for some reason is now said to be ‘if vulnerable abused women object’ 🤔

Trans women object to the naming of female body parts as belonging to women - sure! #bekind

Woman obtains a GRA = a transmen (explaining for those Labour politicians who don’t know the terminology) - thinks great I’m now legally a man and can inherit my Father’s Hereditary Peerages = NO NO NO.

Same!

What utter hypocritical shit.

7H9g5Kj · 29/09/2021 22:35

All trans people are equal.
But some are more equal than others.

Same old same old, sexism still prevails.

OldCrone · 29/09/2021 22:36

It also means that a male heir won't lose his right to inherit if he obtains a GRC.

So some 'women' would be able to inherit - those who were born male.

SpindleWorld · 29/09/2021 22:37

It is a good question. I presume the remaining 92 hereditary peers in 2004 and their sexist mates in the Lords didn't give a fuck about any part of the impact of the GRA other than this?

MurielSpriggs · 29/09/2021 22:43

Not directly relevant, but I assumed that all of this was transmen objecting, or at least so as not to offend transmen?

Saying that cervices only belong to women makes it rather embarrassing for transmen who want to ask about having a smear.

The "cervix-haver" label doesn't really make any difference to transwomen - no amount of linguistic adjustment will give them a cervix. But it makes services involving cervices (I like that!) more inclusive for transmen.

I think this is right, and I don't think it's the killer question you think, @ShadesOfMagenta. It's easily dismissed as an unfortunate bit of politics that was needed to get the bill through the bizarre institution that is our upper chamber.

Gosh, what a surprise.
Deliriumoftheendless · 29/09/2021 22:46

Yet transmen seem to dislike the term “breastfeeding” so accepting “cervix haver” seems inconsistent- especially as men have breasts too, but not a cervix.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 29/09/2021 22:49

Depending on the context…

Some TW object to the naming of an unambiguously female body part or function/characteristic that a TW can not have as it is privileged (e.g., cervix, uterus, menstruation, miscarriage abortion; the ability to wear jeans rather than a dress as the former is too revealing of anatomical frame differences etc.).

Some TM find the reference to something that is an essential part of dysphoria to be triggering.

I have no expectation that either of the above observations will be helpful or at all clarifying.

So they'll campaign to get it changed to be properly inclusive then?

BoastMostFulsomely · 29/09/2021 22:51

Yes - the fact this flies under the radar is, for me, confirmation that most people just don't pay enough attention. But it's one rule for you (women, plebs), another for us (men, the ruling class).

Do you know what - I initally thought that all the objections were based on the fact that saying female body parts are female - or woman's issues etc was because it is excluding trans men (and sure this is probably a part of it) -

BUT

the more I think about it - as we know it is always the man agitating loudly for access to womens spaces and the trans women wanting to be called women "TWAW" - and this is why trans women DO NOT want discussion of typical women's issued that they see excluding them:

ovarian cancer
cervical smears
breastfeeding
periods

These all obviously point to the biological differences between women and transwomen and cause a breakdown in the TWAW argument and thus I assume for the TRAs these items must be "de-sexed" - hence the issue??

Maybe not 'the killer question' but could make for an awkward interview:
TWAW
TMAM - unless their father is a hereditry peer???

So if Price Charles became Princess Charlene would we get King Andrew instead of Queen Anne - seeing as the changes made to royal succession rules a few years back weren't retrospective?

podgydalmatian · 29/09/2021 23:02

No we'd get Queen Charlene wouldn't we because still a man in eyes of law. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'll let myself out.

I think it's a big stretch to pin this one on transwomen.

There is a tendency on this board to regard trans politics as a misogynistic plot orchestrated by males. But I think you may have to accept that this particularly rude and objectionable piece of linguistic butchery (cervix-havers, bodies with vaginas, etc) comes from females, or at least is about protecting the feelings of females who identify as men. If anything labelling people like this emphasises that transwomen with male anatomy aren't in the club.

WinterTrees · 29/09/2021 23:07

"Do you really think anyone would go to all the trouble of transitioning just to inherit a title and a vast estate?'

[heavy sarcasm emoji]

WinterTrees · 29/09/2021 23:09

It might leave them out of the cervix-havers club, but the point is it allows them to remain in the woman club.

lady69 · 29/09/2021 23:13

Princess Ann needs to identify as a man and bosh - heir to the throne!

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 29/09/2021 23:22

There is a marked acceptance that Stephen Whittle, James Morton etc. are prime movers in Press for Change and that Whittle in particular claims much of the responsibility for the consequences of GRA 2004.

Talking about having your cake and eating it. Even female born men are screwed over which only makes me feel like politicians don’t take any transgender issues seriously, to them, your really just the same old you underneath…
