Emma’s started discussing Lammy’s performance on R4 this morning.

By the way, is there anyone else wondering what's happened to the BBC that they're suddenly covering this issue so robustly?.....

catzwhiskas · 29/09/2021 13:04

So good to hear that WH finally on the case. Yes Emma has been excellent on this ( apart from the time given to not very much from yesterday’s special lawyer) It is truly astonishing that none of them seems able to answer reasonable questions. At least this mornings offering did not claim anything about who were the most discriminated against or vulnerable. She knows what the problems are but can’t articulate them at all.

Franca123 · 29/09/2021 13:17

It's curious that Alison didn't roll out the usual bogus suicide stars and 'the most vulnerable minority'. Maybe Alison understands more than Alison is letting on.

Emma pulled no punches there and now we know the Shadow Minister for Sport supports the idea of male people with the protected characteristic of gender reassignment competing against female athletes in weightlifting. Nice to know but not sure how she can explain how that is fair . However, we now know where she stands on the importance of female only sport. Have a feeling that little radio segment is going to come back to haunt her.

offyougotwantychops · 29/09/2021 13:35

If the government aren't allowed to 'micromanage' sport, why do we have a sport minister? ....
After listening to her completely incoherent pishpash I can't help thinking the best thing would be no government ministers for sport.
Emma was awesome!

Mollyollydolly · 29/09/2021 13:42

I've no idea what Emma thinks but it's so good to see this being discussed properly on Woman's Hour and Emma doing what she does best. Somethings must have happened behind the scenes re their editorial guidelines and it's great to see.
Alison is a Labour MP I've always liked and respected. It pains me to hear her speaking like this, a woman that's been silenced and cant speak sense. Urgh.

unwashedanddazed · 29/09/2021 13:54

I think it's less the threats on social media that Labour politicians fear and more the sjw/lgbt wing of the party, which behaves in a relentlessly aggressive manner in trying to take down anyone who thinks 'wrong'. The back room manoeuvring to remove dissenters from influence and wreck their status is incredibly swift and vicious. Bronwyn Davis sparked it yesterday getting booed and told to stop talking just for defending Rosie Duffield's right to free speech. You can guarantee that immediately after Bronwyn spoke some self-righteous authoritarian was trawling her social media for henious examples of further hate crimes to ruin her career with.

borntobequiet · 29/09/2021 13:55

Emma actually does a brilliant job of not interrupting and letting her interviewee ramble on until it becomes obvious what a load of tosh they’re spouting, then asking them to actually answer the question.

Laceoff · 29/09/2021 14:52

Great to hear Emma Barnett not letting her off the hook with her non-answers. They weren't difficult questions fgs.

Abhannmor · 29/09/2021 14:57

You could tell from her voice and general manner that Alison knows it's all bollocks. She just took one for the team. I bet she is fuming now.

Artichokeleaves · 29/09/2021 15:26

Angela Raynor states "trans rights are not in conflict with women's rights" is she a fucking robot??

She clearly hasn't spoken with Lammysaurus who blew that one wide open yesterday.

Jaysmith71 · 29/09/2021 15:32

This must be where Marxism went wrong. The political struggle is a struggle of class against class, but turns out all the workers had to do was self_ID out of their oppression all along. Hey Presto, no more Class Conflict.

Artichokeleaves · 29/09/2021 16:11

I ran into a meme yesterday that went something like:

Once I was a young man, and the world seemed beautiful and loving and full of possibilities.

Then I was an older man, and the world seemed sharp and darker and full of hard realities.

Then I took up surrealism. Things got quite weird after that.

It read like The Modern History of the Labour Party.

😂😂😂

Ooooh, I'm black working class, but I've always wanted to be a blue blooded aristocrat, it's great to know that all I need do is keep applying my mind to it, and co-opt a bit of aristo terminology and I'll get there. My god, I never knew it could be so simple, thanks!!

beastlyslumber · 29/09/2021 17:35

Has she had Helen Joyce on? I gave up listening to WH after JM left and it went all cupcakes and TWAW. So happy to hear that they are tackling this issue now.

Motorina · 29/09/2021 20:31

Thanks for highlighting this. I caught this this morning and was really impressed. Incisive questions asked politely but persistently. I've - for the first time ever! emailed WH and thanked them for this.
