Hoarding rights???!! WTF. What rights? The right to enter female only spaces and have dignity, privacy and safety from men?

Fuck off Lammy.

I hate the conservatives but they look like the sensible choice compared to this fucking labour shower 😡

@ArabellaScott

On the plus side, it does open up some wonderful new possibilities wrt costumes for demos.

Handmaidens, witches, suffragettes - and now dinosaurs! Actually quite exciting.

....and a dance!

@EdgeOfACoin

I wonder whether he was supportive of Rachel Dolezal.

Do you recall that this came up during Forstater vs CGD (round 1)?

When asked, the HR person from CGD said that yes, as far as their organisation was concerned, she would be black. Self-ID was universally applied.

Thanks Embarassing - I've signed up. Love a bit of material dialectic me! I voted for the reds at the last election in Wales - the only party that were willing to support sex-based rights. Unfortunately they didn't get in!

My goodness, what's that banging noise?!

Oh that's right, it's just David Lammy, hammering another nail in the coffin for Labour 🙄

ROAR! today I am identifying as RightsAreAPieTops.

Is there a recording or transcript of this speech?

Is it Moley who does those deeply entertaining images on Twitter and for Glinner?

We need Moley or someone with comparable skills to mock up rights-hoarding dinosaurs.

When the wishes of one group conflict with the wishes of another they tend to stand up for the smaller less powerful group.

Of course they’re going to stand up for trans people against feminists in the 2020’s.

Trans people are obviously a smaller group than women, but 'less powerful'?

The trans rights movement is dominated by some privileged, middle aged, middle class males. They have cynically recruited large numbers of young people, including some very young children, to make this look more like a movement for less privileged people, but those young people are not the drivers of this movement, and many of them are its victims.

The privileged people I'm referring to are people like Pips Bunce, Alex Drummond, Eddie Izzard, Jane Fae... Nobody could argue that people like that are vulnerable people who need more protection than vulnerable women and children.

This movement has a disproportionate impact on women and children, particularly disadvantaged women like those who are victims of rape or domestic violence and those who are in prison. These are the less powerful groups who should be protected. And yet Labour just want to steamroller over all protections in order to give special privileges to their chosen group of males.

Not convinced they're a smaller group than "feminists" though.

@PronounssheRa

We need a thread dedicated to labour's batshittery which just lists the bollocks coming out of conference week

My “favourite” was Rachel Reeves spluttering mess on Nick Ferrari this week. If you can’t articulate your policy position, maybe the policy really is too ridiculous for words?!

Lammy is one of the original architects of this current mess. He didn't consider the impact of women 16 years ago and clearly he has no interest in doing so now. Despite everything he claimed wouldn't happen coming to pass and then some. He was wrong about everything back then and is now doubling down.

This.

It has been checked that no one's spiked the water supply at Labour HQ or something? They all seem to have gone completely batshit, en masse.

To be fair, I understand why the Shadow Minister for Wages has resigned.

Are all the top people at Labour being blackmailed to come out with this shit do we think? These are intelligent people we are talking about, they can't seriously really believe all the nonsense they are coming out with can they? Blackmail or brainwashing, something is up.

The video is so cheesy, but it has a more coherent message than the current LP does.

This is incredibly disappointing - and offensive - from Lammy. They're falling like dominoes today. Is there really not a single one of them who will stand with Rosie?

There it is again, contradictory paragraphs, butting up against each other.

This “group of people who have been denied their rights for so long” but who had a law created for them less than twenty years ago, which allegedly is now completely out of date?

And why is it out of date? I suspect it’s because much of this movement and most of the people making the current demands weren’t even part of this group when that law was made.

This is a man-made group, created by doctors, relatively recently in the grand scheme of things.

How long did women have to wait before they gained anything approaching equality under the law?

It was illegal to be gay. You could be thrown in prison for loving the wrong person. That’s active persecution under the law. How long did those people wait for something approaching equality under the law?

It was never illegal to transition in the UK. There has never been a similar lack of rights or legal protections for those who transition. Indeed, male transitioners began to move in on women’s spaces without even needing any new rights, and once they were there, their right to be there was strengthened very quickly, by that law Lammy is saying is now inadequate. That suggests these people have rights that are evolving as rapidly as their movement is growing. It’s certainly not correct to suggest this is a group of people who’ve been left out in the cold for an unbearable length of time.

So sick of this hyperbole and the half-truths and untruths that are being spewed forth by people who I once might have respected, but now stare at in wonder that they are so deeply enmeshed.

How on earth did we get here?

Although I don't know how he feels about living with a hoarding dinosaur 🦖? It sounds quite cool in a children's picture book kind of way.

Have you been to the catacombs in Paris? I hope you have a wide hall and landing.

I'd love it if David Lammy was bombarded with the most annoying possible clips of Barney the dinosaur, if he's on Twitter.
