Hate crime at Stirling Uni

Information on women's rights have been left in the toilets at Stirling Uni. A report has been made to police about hate crimes.

This was my Uni, I almost wish to be a student again so I could help with the distribution. If any Stirling Uni students are reading, dm me. I'd love to help.

The link:

brignews.com/2021/09/23/anti-trans-leaflets-reported-as-hate-crime-to-police-scotland-by-student-union/

Brig has viewed the materials which contain references to women’s rights, the threat the writer considers transgender people to pose, and the Gender Recognition Act (GRA).

It is essential that you take from us that these are bad people without seeing their bad words. We have identified the evil so your eternal soul is not put at risk. You can thank us later.

NotBadConsidering · 24/09/2021 22:03

The editorial decision has been made, after consultation with the Union, to omit direct quotes so as to not further any harm these materials have caused to the student community.

Well that’s convenient isn’t it? So no one can actually read what was written then.

Strange that people cannot be left to assess for themselves what is now considered a ‘hate crime’.

And lo, people may agree with it…

Waitwhat23 · 24/09/2021 22:51

I've seen this posted on Twitter as the actual 'too offensive to be quoted' leaflet.

Factual statements and links to websites. Oh no! The horror!

RJnomore1 · 24/09/2021 22:54

Oh bloody hell

This is a uni I have work connections with

Aargh

Waitwhat23 · 24/09/2021 22:55

For Women Scotland have reported that a student 'journalist' emailed them to demand that they confirm or deny that they were behind the production of these leaflets. Apparently the email raised quite a snigger among the journalistically inclined at FWS.

DaddyLangClegs · 24/09/2021 22:58

Et tu Wee Nippy.

See what you have done?

Pineapplepyjamas · 24/09/2021 22:59

Someone I’m in a WhatsApp group with posted about leaflets somewhere she works. She sent a photo of the leaflet showing where it was… but cropped off the text, so we conveniently couldn’t see what it said.
I could tell it was a women won’t wheesht one.

Mantlemoose · 24/09/2021 23:01

At last, I thought it would never reach us here!

BrideofAberdeen · 24/09/2021 23:02

That is a great leaflet

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/09/2021 23:02

Brava Thanks I think women need to get similar leaflets into every workplace and public space in the land.

ArabellaScott · 24/09/2021 23:05

Good to see! Well done, Stirling Uni witches.

I'm sure the police will be delighted to be called out about this.

Some of the comments on the Twitter feed for the Brig 'newspaper' are absolute gold. I love the use of the Dr Evil meme a few comments down Grin

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 25/09/2021 02:06

Witticisms aside, things are so odd in Scotland that I have to ask, does the content of that leaflet fall within the remit of a hate crime rather than a non-crime hate incident?

NiceGerbil · 25/09/2021 02:26

Ooh this is clever

'Trans and nonbinary people do not represent a threat to women’s rights'

And I wouldn't disagree with that.

It's the changes to law, the widely pushed incorrect laws that have led to loads of places illegally changing things. The massive push to work on a gender is whatever a person says it is and that must be respected.

It's not all individuals with a trans identity, independently threatening our rights.

It's the accumulated efforts of some people and orgs - plenty of whom are not themselves trans or in orgs with trans and non trans people. To change law, interpretation of law, and erode long held strong social norms.
And the threat to us is from males being able to self ID into all our stuff. Increasing risk yes. Also entering competitions, orgs, that were single sex in order to give us opportunities, recognition, a fair playing field etc. Orgs or positions that had an objective of supporting women and girls. Things to do with socialising / meeting potential partners in women only situations. And taking our language which is massive. Oh and giving horrible men a great excuse for abusing women.

Very clever indeed.

Same.
Funnily enough for the project we are working on the sex of the specimens are of utmost importance.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 25/09/2021 07:39

From the Twitter comments: Women’s rights appear to be a hate crime in McGilead these days.

McGilead. Perfect! I’ll never see Nicola Sturgeon again without thinking of Aunt Lydia.

IANAL, but I think that would be a non-criminal hate incident. Because that is all based on the perception of the alleged victim.

There's nothing criminal about leaflets, or about stating certain facts and/or beliefs.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 25/09/2021 11:20

There's nothing criminal about leaflets, or about stating certain facts and/or beliefs.

Thank you, so it's hyperbole or error for the report to refer to hate leaflets or to place any weight on the fact it's been reported as a hate crime to the Police who've not corrected the complainant.

the Student Union has reported the matter as a hate crime to Police Scotland and approached the University to take action on the matter.

I regret that I had to ask but McGilead is beyond my ready understanding.

Acatcalledcharlie · 25/09/2021 11:22

Does anyone know if the Forstater ruling apply in Scotland?

That explains why I couldn't see what the hate was. Very convenient!

@Acatcalledcharlie

Does anyone know if the Forstater ruling apply in Scotland?
No, unfortunately, I don't think it does.

It will take a Supreme Court ruling (Scottish or UK) around human rights / freedom of belief and expression, I think, to shut down this madness.
