So the FiLiA sessions are open now to book. The speakers list is brilliant!
How many from FWR are going?
Is anyone planning a meet up?

It looks really good.

BeyondShrinks · 14/09/2021 12:47

Yep I'll be there

SpringCrocus · 14/09/2021 18:43

I'll be there, is anyone going to the party?

supercritter · 14/09/2021 18:52

I'm going

purpleboy · 15/09/2021 09:32

I'm hoping to go to the party - I have a ticket but I also suffer with chronic fatigue so it's possible I'll be asleep by the evening! Grin

SpringCrocus · 15/09/2021 19:30

How will we meet up (if anyone wants to?)

BeyondShrinks · 18/09/2021 10:34

I spotted a mumsnet thread on the app :)

Articus · 12/10/2021 11:08

How do you register for the party? Could not see it.

SquinnySaurus · 12/10/2021 17:10

I'm on the waiting list for the party but realistically I think the majority won't get a ticket for it tbh.

The sessions look excellent.

Articus · 12/10/2021 18:12

Sad @SquinnySaurus yes, i noticed about the waiting list!
I have chosen with great difficulty!
Great line up!
I bet there will be some dinosaurs 🦕 too!

Julia Bindel:

thecritic.co.uk/the-quiet-cancellations/

'ifty miles down the coast from Brighton, Portsmouth might seem an unlikely candidate for the next bitter battle line in the so-called “gender wars”. Dominated by its biggest employer — the Royal Navy — some of the most deprived areas in the UK sit alongside pockets of Hampshire affluence. Of what interest are the ever more complicated micro-identities of the blue-fringed genderqueer demisexual, to this working-class naval city? On the face of it, none. But Portsmouth is a case study of the disastrous impact on women and girls — particularly those from working class and/or ethnic minority communities — when a small but loud lobby of self-designated “progressives” is given free rein to shut down any discussion or activism devoted to them.'

Eucalyptustrees · 14/10/2021 21:59

Well written Julie.

What is the matter with people?

ANewCreation · 15/10/2021 18:53

Thanks lionheart for the really interesting article by Julie Bindel which highlights how it particularly impacts on the marginalised and vulnerable when political/gender purity is prioritised above all.

I'm so looking forward to the weekend - if a little apprehensive - as never been to something like it before.

lionheart · 15/10/2021 20:15

Me too ANewCreation.

lanadelgrey · 15/10/2021 21:16

How are people meeting up, v late to the party as wasn’t sure I’d make it.

If you go to the Community part of the conference app (the Whova app for ticket-holders) there's lots about meet-ups in and around the conference, as well as security.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/10/2021 08:34

Have a fantastic time, everyone who is going!

OvaHere · 16/10/2021 10:40

Hope all attendees are having a great time.

Lots of stuff to follow on Twitter using #FiLiA2021

littlbrowndog · 16/10/2021 10:50

They seem nice. Hmm

BaronMunchausen · 16/10/2021 15:20

They don't seem to feel very "unsafe".

I suspect that if they brought that sign to a male-dominated group they might. But it's only women.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 16/10/2021 16:01

when a small but loud lobby of self-designated “progressives” is given free rein to shut down any discussion or activism devoted to them.'

The comparison to the Deptford Project experience couldn't be more obvious - nor could the lack of learning by the self-styled progressives to learn from the women and girls there.
