Mumsnet is anonymous. The comments were on twitter under her real name. I think they were extraordinary comments for someone in a profession to make publicly.

IIRC, at the time, she was anonymous on twitter. She got doxed by trans activists trying to find another Scottish woman, called Marion, connected to For Women Scotland. Marion Millar wasn't the one they were looking for, she was just an accountant for FWS. Once doxxed, she decided she wasn't going to be intimidated off social media and changed her twitter username.

Now that the activists have found out the identity of a random GC woman, they are combing through her past posts on twitter to find something to report her for.

So there is little difference between her and the mumsnet posters who expressed their feelings in frank terms, and if they're unlucky, any of them could end up in the same position.

The tweets referred to in this thread were , in my view, bizarre and inappropriate for use by someone in a profession like accountancy or law.

Perhaps you'd be good enough to share with us the appropriate and approved by KimikosNightmare language that accountants and lawyers must use to express themselves.

Do I really need to explain there is a difference between the sort of comment one might make privately amongst friends and the sort of comment one might make publicly?

I only saw the "deserves to be shot like a rabid dog" one. According to MargaritaPie there was also one about describing someone as a "hillbilly".

I personally find both of those comments bizarre even in a personal setting. It's perfectly possible to express outrage and condemnation without using that sort of language.

KimikosNightmare · 29/08/2021 16:32

@Jorriss

Do accountants not have feelings?

Clearly not allowed to. We live in a strange new world where so many horrors are considered to be ok, yet stand up for logic and safeguards and suddenly you're the worst bigot ever.

Oh give over. Talking about "hillbilly" and "shooting someone like a rabid dog" says quite a lot about the person saying it.
KimikosNightmare · 29/08/2021 16:37

If not, have you posted on any of the many many threads about various incidents to condemn the abuse or was it just this one which for some reason made you feel you had to make a stand?

Yes actually, although not under this name.

It's all or nothing with some of you isn't it? Must defend Marion Millar without questioning.

that sort of language, so I ask again what is the approved language to express outrage and condemnation, just so we can all stay on the right side of your language policing.

Jorriss · 29/08/2021 16:41

Does it? What does it say to you?

Bless.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/08/2021 16:44

And that she said all of that anonymously and was doxxed in error, which is what started all of this for her.

What do you think of that? Or are you studiously ignoring it?

Glad to hear it. So often we see posters treat the mote in the GC eye as outweighing the beam in the TRA eye. I look forward to your future defence of GC women.

Hardly. It's just it is odd, in a thread about a woman whose family has been doxxed due to her political views, for someone to feel the thing most worthy of comment in that scenario is character flaws you feel are revealed by the language she chose to use in an unrelated comment on an utterly vile crime.

Is that really what strikes you as the most concerning thing here?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/08/2021 16:56

When the person in question kills a 6 year old in the circumstances involved then I don't think the rabid dog comment is anything other than comparing said individual to another creature lacking control, with no cure, where death is the only real answer.

Not as terrible as you make out. Possibly kinder to the young man involved than the prison sentence and psychiatric care he was actually sentenced to.

Rhannion · 29/08/2021 18:32

@KimikosNightmare

Why would you assume that? I don't use any social media in my own name beyond LinkedIn which I use only for work related matters.

Marion DIDN’T tweet as an accountant, she tweeted as a MOTHER.
Rhannion · 29/08/2021 18:41

And NO DEBATE isn’t the stance must people have in real life. It’s a loud minority with their demands who don’t want to debate. Probably because they know their demands are unreasonable, unfair and won’t stand up to scrutiny.

RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 19:24

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Studiously ignoring as it shows just how low TRAs go with their trawling through Twitter to find women to target, abuse and dox.
DialSquare · 29/08/2021 19:28

Someone went through Marion's tweets with a fine tooth comb and all they could find were some responses to despicable crimes and show them out of context to try to criticise her. That's all they have and many others have gone along with it without looking at the whole picture. If her language upsets some people, well that's their problem. I grew up in the East End of London where not only would people agree with Marion regarding these crimes, given half a chance, they would carry out their own justice on the perpetrators. I'd view anyone who didn't agree with her as a bit suspect to being honest.

KittenKong · 29/08/2021 19:35

Is this the case where the young man kidnapped the little girl from her bed and murdered her?

If so, when it was going through the courts I was on a course with a woman who grew up there and has family there. She was very vocal about what she would like to do to him. It was an absolutely shocking crime.

Exactly that one.
KittenKong · 29/08/2021 20:07

God that was an absolutely shocking case.

RedDogsBeg · 29/08/2021 20:32

See we haven't been given the details of the right sort of language that should be used, we're doomed to offend against the sensibilities of those who think language to describe horrendous crimes and perpetrators must be policed.
