Just that really, haven't had time to look closely

Through the consultation process we aim to:

• hear a wide range of views
• make sure stakeholders’ needs are considered
• make sure our work is heading in the right direction
• increase awareness of our work and role
• fulfil our duty under the Equality Act 2006

Ta. Will bookmark.

Leafstamp · 18/08/2021 19:21

Thanks for this. Following for more info when someone with brains and time has completed and wants to share useful info here Grin

I notice one of the first questions asks which of the protected characteristics is most important to you!

Thingybob · 18/08/2021 19:47

2006? I know there was an Act then but surely the big change in the law came in 2010, didn't it?

Thingybob · 18/08/2021 19:57

I think I've found the answer to my own question. The 2006 Act was about setting up the EHRC and outlining it's duties.

Forgotthebins · 18/08/2021 20:02

Maybe because the 2006 Equality Act is what established them as an organisation.

I think it’s helpful they ask which characteristics are most important to each response, it allows for filtering.

I will be interested to see WPUK and FPFW responses.

NonnyMouse1337 · 26/08/2021 12:26

Bump!

JustWaking · 27/08/2021 09:06

It's a well put together questionnaire - lots of space to say what is most important to you and why in each area they are focusing on. 50 word limit on each though, which only comes up when you move to the next page - be warned Grin so you don't spend as long as me writing loads then having to cut it right down! It does look like a genuine attempt to get more information from the general public.

Took a long time to fill in! Worth setting aside the time though: this stuff really matters.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 27/08/2021 09:15

I wonder if any of the organisations will be putting out helpful notes for filling out the form. WPUK, filia - Sex Matters?

Imnobody4 · 03/09/2021 10:48

Just about to start doing this. Has anyone come across any advice, notes etc?

OP posts:
highame · 04/09/2021 15:02

I'm sure this one could do with a bump. Anyone got any useful information/notes yet?

NonnyMouse1337 · 04/09/2021 18:37

I've not come across anything yet. Usually the various groups don't have much time to put out notes or guidance beforehand as there's enough work to do writing up their own submission.

It might be helpful if anyone here has a bit of time to read through the proposals published by EHRC and summarise it here so that we can collectively raise points and ideas that might help in writing something up.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/09/2021 20:20

Posting to,remind me to do this. Important to let them know how much women appreciated them having the courage to intervene in the Forstater case, and that we want to see more of that.

Imnobody4 · 05/09/2021 12:56

This is interesting - it's from the Telegraph originally but behind a paywall.
uk.newschant.com/politics/equality-regulators-staff-given-impartiality-training-as-part-of-overhaul/amp/

Really think this is an organisation that's now listening.

The coaching is known to have been championed by Baroness Falkner of Margravine, who took over as EHRC chairman final year and was described by Liz Truss, the equalities minister, as “ready to challenge dangerous groupthink”.

A supply briefed on the periods mentioned they had been supposed to make sure that staff “do not adopt the political positions of activists and lobby groups”. The coaching was performed internally by EHRC staff.

The disclosure comes weeks after Lady Falkner instructed The Telegraph that she needed the regulator to reveal that “we are the equality body for everyone”, as she admitted that it had beforehand been seen to have “got lost in … rabbit holes that are quite esoteric”.

Reminding myself to do this Smile

pollypocketlover · 06/09/2021 18:16

I just did it. I found it quite hard to fill out actually, since their proposed priorities are so specific and don't specifically mention any of the protected groups.

Thanks pollypocketlover - are you able to summarise what the proposed priorities are?

I'll need to have a proper read of their proposals next week.

Cailin66 · 07/09/2021 09:17

Why is Mr. Boo taking over from the Baroness as Head of the EHRC? She was only appointed last year.

NonnyMouse1337 · 07/09/2021 10:02

@Cailin66

I think the Baroness will still be the chairwoman but the new guy will be the head. No idea what the difference in roles, responsibilities and accountability between them will be to be honest.

If anyone has any info on the organisational structure of EHRC, including their commissions for Scotland and Wales, do tell us. I've found it confusing. Smile

Imnobody4 · 07/09/2021 10:53

My understanding is the Baroness is in charge of strategy, direction priorities etc as Chair of the Board and the CEO carries out on the ground.

www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/who-we-are/our-commissioners-committees-and-governance
The Board has a strategic oversight role. (This is chaired by Baroness Falkner). It does not directly manage our operations, but delegates that role to the CEO and our staff. It holds the CEO and the staff to account by monitoring performance against our strategic priorities and ensuring that resources are being used to good effect.

The Board meets around ten times a year with a mix of strategic and governance meetings, and we publishminutes of recent Board meetings.

Ah yes ... Helps to actually read the info on the website. 😅😅
Thanks for explaining that Imnobody4.

JustWaking · 07/09/2021 12:44

A question about the EHRC: years ago (maybe 15 or 20 years ago - eek!) I read a report they produced (maybe annually?) which tried to analyse how much different groups were discriminated against (including intersections of characteristics) based on things like level of pay for a given education level.

I seem to remember that Asian women were the most discriminated against group at the time, and mothers were pretty high up the list too.

I've looked for updated versions of that report on and off since then, but haven't been able to find it.

Does anyone know what the report is, whether it's still compiled, and where I can find it? Thanks!

Imnobody4 · 07/09/2021 18:51

Not sure if this is of any relevance at all but here's a link to list of all their research reports.
