and if you are sufficiently enraged:

Someone on twitter has done a good 'how to complain' and skeleton complaint re this latest BBC farce

Read that on Twitter earlier. Scathing. Proper propaganda piece from the BBC and rightly being called out.

Clymene · 03/08/2021 11:16

That isa great article. I didn't know they'd buried the Navratilova documentary.

It's all so unbelievably sinister. I will be submitting (another) complaint

ChakaDakotaRegina · 03/08/2021 12:53

I’m worried my complaints are just being binned as they don’t seem remotely capable of rational thoughts on this.

The bbc article on Hubbard is blinkered to the point of blindness.

Feelingoktoday · 03/08/2021 12:57

This should be on AIBu to complain to the bbc.

PamDenick · 03/08/2021 13:04

Yes.

What was bizarre yesterday was that the BBC quoted Fallon Fox for a sound bite (?!) when they could have asked a truly esteemed female athlete like Sharon Davies or Martina Navratilova.

The bias is more offensive than any one individual trying to achieve sporting success in the gender they feel an affinity to.

LizzieSiddal · 03/08/2021 13:07

If the BBC don’t respond to these complaints in a proper fashion, is there a higher body to complain to? Or is it time for a legal case, there are so many examples of the BBC showing utter contempt for women and their rights, it feels like the right time to take this out of the BBC.

TooWicked · 03/08/2021 13:12

Thanks for the links, I will certainly do this when I finish work.

Also, how do you cancel your license fee and what does that look like in reality - would the BBC TV channels stop getting transmitted to my home, or do I just have to try and avoid accidentally putting a BBC channel on?

I’d really rather not give them another penny of my money.

Jaysmith71 · 03/08/2021 13:18

"...when they could have asked a truly esteemed female athlete like Sharon Davies."

...Who is in Tokyo working for the BBC doing poolside interviews. How 'odd' that we do not hear from her on this subject.

ChristinaXYZ · 03/08/2021 13:18

Ofcom for TV and Radio programmes though if you are complaining about online posts it is outside their remit - if you are complaining about a TV or radio programme you can use previous complaints about online stuff to highlight a consistent editorial problem however so it is worth complaining and keeping the receipts till you have the right volume of evidence.

It is better if you have complained 2 or 3 times on similar issues (ie women's rights) and keep the case id numbers. For the last time you complain to the BBC - on a TV or radio programme - cite the other case numbers including those like this that are about online stuff - and say your complaint is a culmination of today's issue and all the other times and if they don't respond satisfactorily then you'll take it to Ofcom. Then you can write to Ofcom complaining about the most recent programme and citing the previous complaints and printing off copies if you have them and detailing why and where you think the BBC has a problem and why you think its responses are unacceptable.

If you complain to the BBC using the online form you get an email headed BBC Complaints - Case number xxxxxxxxx .

"do I just have to try and avoid accidentally putting a BBC channel on?"

You need a TV licence in the UK to watch television broadcasts, either over the airwaves on online by iplayer or commercial equivalents taht stream live.

To comply with the law, any tv you have must not be 'installed,' that is the aeriel socket must be unplugged and you must promise, Scouts Honour, not to watch iplayer.

In practice, there is little anyone can do to stop you. TV Licencing are not allowed into your home without your permission and you do not have to answer their questions.

The people who knock on your door and send you threatening letters are Capita, not the BBC. They want to sell you a TV Licence and make commission on it. They do not care about anything else.

GreatAuntEmily · 03/08/2021 13:23

Thanks, reminded me to complain to BBC

FannyCann · 03/08/2021 13:42

I think I will forward my complaint to my MP too. Something Posie said (who was repeating advice from ?MP?) don't just write one letter. In your letter state you are forwarding your complaint to a higher entity eg MP, BBC Chairman of Governors, local/national newspaper etc.

Mollyollydolly · 03/08/2021 13:46

It is worth complaining. All complaints are logged and management can read them. I never expect to get a decent response, but hopefully they are read by the right people and the more complaints the more I expect them to take notice. It's worth doing. They used to have overnight logs that listed all the complaints from the day before, I'm sure there must still be a version of that.

I think that's excellent advice.

The TV does not need to be disconnected from the aerial socket, because you can listen to the radio licence free.

highame · 03/08/2021 17:32

The BBC doesn't really care about the complaints (I put this on another thread). By the time they get around to accepting the bias, it will be months away and a correction/apology will not be prominent. They have this down to a T (pun intended). The BBC knows this is controversial but like many media outlets they think we're dumb.

I've gone for MP asking him to discuss with Oliver Dowden.

Anotheruser02 · 03/08/2021 17:37

I would just love to know exactly how many people cancelled their TV licences yesterday.

Jaysmith71 · 03/08/2021 17:43

"The TV does not need to be disconnected from the aerial socket, because you can listen to the radio licence free."

It's academic because the inspectors arent't allowed in without your consent and the "TV Detector Vans" of old were an elaborate hoax inspired by Thunderbirds "Automatic Camera Detector."

But the law is clear: If you TV is installed and capable of receiving TV Broadcasts, you need a licence even if you never switch it on. It is the "Capability" that renders you licenceable.

LizzieSiddal · 03/08/2021 17:44

The BBC disgraceful behaviour yesterday has been reported here. Let’s hope other media pick up on it. People are very angry and rightly so.

That interview video on that article is brilliant.

PamDenick · 03/08/2021 22:03

I think the BBC tried to do some mitigating today... Michael Jordan wisely and calmly explaining to the fabulous Claire Balding about DSDs and some of the implications thereof...

PamDenick · 03/08/2021 22:04

Michael JOHNSON!! Apologies

Then I suggest you take your aerial down or leave it up and cancel your license fee find a big pillow and bury your head under it 😂. for your question has to be one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read today just because you disagree with something everyone throws the toys out and becomes petulant over the license fee like it’s holding the bbc to ransom. I complain all the time about the bias in reporting men’s cycling over women’s but I don’t revert to a forum & I’ll take my license fee away in a childish act.😩

They seem to promise that sex discrimination is a real issue, mind. Wonder if that works in practice.
